A friend of mine got an acura TL for his wife, it's six speed, and it is really nice. very fast too, and very roomy.

Seriously though -

Nissan Altima is an amazing vehicle. Reliable, roomy, speedy & great gas mileage. I prefer the newer model over the previous one.

Mazda Speed 3 didnt come out till 2006 so that's not in your 3-4 year range. Plus you wont find one for around 15k.

Subaru would be a great choice, but I think they are a bit pricey.

And I agree that Acura's are over priced.
