Ok, new band for the "are they emo or not" discussion....how about...metallica. they are whiny, they are annoying. they wear all black. they are emo.
but they have big hair. that disqualifies them automatically from the "emo" category and slaps the "90's grunge/metal" label on them...
um, a band is considered a certain genre because of how they sound, not how they look....that'd be kinda shallow don't ya think?...I mean, there ARE trends associated w/different kinds of music, but I mean, if Jay-Z started wearing tight shirts & boot cut jeans, but still kept putting out rap albums, would he be considered emo ANYWAY?..lol
lol actually he probably would. i think the whole "genre" thing is overrated anyway and music should just be listened to and loved, not classified. i'm just saying.

Yea, I know, i'm just saying, there's a specific sound some bands go for that I like to consider emo - it kinda pulls the same emotion outa ya so you kinda think of these bands in the same way..I just don't like when music is associated w/anything more than sound....like style of clothes & whatnot
