The society's definition of dating (from the YPA book) is when you single someone out for special attention...it's dating. a date can be a phone call, it can be an AIM chat session at a pre-arranged time. still a date. call it what it is. be an adult.
Dan you are right on with this... You are dating if you single out an individual of the opposite sex, and they single you out too... I dont believe in the whole "were just friends because it will look bad if I start dating this person publicly". If thats the case just go ahead and date them, because people arent blind and you cant fool Jehovah. If its already in your heart to be with the person, you are with that person and its too late. Either change your heart condition and go associating with larger groups and not single them out, or just DATE THEM ALREADY!!
ok, well now that we're on THIS subject...let's move on to the next point. SERVICE CAN BE A DATE. In fact, I think service can be an AWESOME date. Let's look at the pro's-

You can't spend the ENTIRE day working together. Only a part. Like the morning. Otherwise it looks REALLY bad. (why, i don't know.)
Service is pretty cool with the person you like because that's a really important part of your life and you have to know if they're serious spiritually and this is one of those things that can help clue you in. But yes, it does look bad if you go out for more then one part of the day together..I've been told it's just not done.
