what is an IP? ?

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

haha...internet 101 is about to start...please take your seats.

our guest speaker today will be "mr. protocol", who will explain what the internet IS. Mr. Protocol, please.

Hi kids! Please NEVER EVER pretend to be someone you're not on ezabel! because everyone can tell! haha!

an IP is the address of your computer, so everytime you log in... say if you were using aol or something... just hypothetically... they assign you an ip address everytime you log in. Now, even though the address may change, it would still be in the same subnet of numbers ie say if you address was 10.0.0.1 when you have one user name, and then the next time you make a username, regardless of how creative you were in the name... it will show your Ip of 10.0.0.2, One can reasonably assume that it would be the same person, especially when ones writing style matches the previous user...

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

wow...that's a complicated way to explain it..it's basically like a phone number, and caller ID. whoever you call, (or in this case, wherever you post) the number shows up.

sure, you can CHANGE the number, but the prefixes will always be the same...like, where i live, the first few digits of my phone number are 201-995 ...even if i use a different line in my house, it still has the same prefix.

ophelia opheliaOG 2003

sooooo...long story short, you're busted...(through a deduction based on IP evidence, your identity has been uncovered...)

it's an AOL proxy IP. AOL users don't directly hit eZabel, they all have to go through AOL's proxies, so if you have 10 different users from all different areas, they'll all have the same IP. All we know is that they both use AOL.

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

listen mr. "i own this site", let's just go ahead and assume, ok! assuming never did anything bad. it works, it's a tried and true method.
