thanks for all that helped me out with this. she's gonna be a tough nut to crack, very steeped in false teachings.... hellfire, rapture, trinity, etc... I don't think I want to give her any intern...

also, there is a big difference between a translation of the bible and a version. NIV is a version which means that it has been changed quite a bit. ie. "a god", jehovah's name... as todd said the greek interlinear translation show clearly that it says "a god". sounds kinda tedious, but it's all about context too.
