Homeless People

ekulu by ekuluOG 2002 · Oct 11, 2003 · 278 views

Let's take a moment to think abotu the less fortunate in the world. The other day a guy saw we were preaching and wanted to talk to us. He was drunk and high along with all his freinds, and he told us he hadn't eaten in 3 days, and could we possibly spare something for him. Not a chance, buddy! Obviously this guy guy had money, bcuz he was drunk and high, which is a very expensive habit by the way. With the money he used to buy that weed he couldve bought a sandwhich or some groceries for the week. anyway he told us he lived in the park, and we offered him a study, but he said it was alright. I guess he just wanted money or a sandwich.

I never give money to homeless people, you think they can't buy drugs with one dollar, but if they get 100 people to think that way, then they can afford it. Or $5 will buy some cheap wine.
If you wanna give them something, like if they say they're starving, buy them a sandwich. I've bought McD's for people that asked for money. Don't forget that a lot of homeless people can get food at shelters and food kitchens, so if it REALLY bothers you, go donate some food there.

i don't think 100 homeless people will REALLY get together to pool $1/each. that's a lot of work.

fivezero #10.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

you can't possibly be this dense. he meant ONE bum getting ONE dollar from ONE HUNDRED people. silly goose.

skaorsk8 #10.1.1.1 skaorsk8OG 2002

ohhhhh. i see. i completely mis-understood. i love you dean!

thatdarngirl #9 thatdarngirlOG 2002

I just realized this story was fitting:
My older sister lives in Philly. She got really tired of seeing all the homeless people, so she thought she'd do something nice for them. She whipped up some vegan muffins and went out on her bike and started giving them out. A few people were fairly nice about it, but one guy chucked it right at her and another tossed it down the subway stairs.

frobro #9.1 frobroOG 2003

Your siser should know that all homeless people are evil. That why they live on the steets, because there evil.

thatdarngirl #9.1.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

I'm evil but I'm not homeless.

jp #9.2 jpOG 2003

what a bunch of unthankful jerks! if i were giving out food to the homeless and they did that, id throw a muffin. AT THEIR FACE. splat!

ekulu #9.2.1 ekuluOG 2002

but anybody in heir right mind would throw away a vegan muffin

fivezero #9.2.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

you got that right, boss! only SOME vegan food is edible. muffins? no.

T
#9.3 toxicgirlOG 2003

What's a vegan muffin?

fivezero #9.3.1 fivezeroOG 2003

a muffin made without any kind of animal additive whatsoever, even on the molecular level.

T
#9.3.1.1 toxicgirlOG 2003

Oh ok, thanks muffin.

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

aaaaaaaah excuse me!?! did you forget about "us"? what was all that "one in a million" talk?

fivezero #9.3.2 fivezeroOG 2003

i don't even think they use flour! because it's said animal bones are crushed up in it to make that stark white color.

thatdarngirl #9.3.2.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

Well...I'm sure she used flour, probably not stark white..she always puts odd stuff in her food.

ekulu #9.4 ekuluOG 2002

Did anybody ever see "Bum Fights", its sad. They pay bums like 50 bucks to fight each other and video tape it. Its soo sad that they take advantage of these guys poor situation, but at least it makes us laugh. I never saw it,I think it has a mature rating, so Im not suggesting it

tinser #5 tinserOG 2002

if somebody is going to be homeless and ask for money...i think they should have a gimmick...in san francisco...there is the bushman...all he needed was some branches and a brain and bam...he is doing good for a bum...i gave him like ten bucks while i was there...stinkin' hillarious

frobro #4 frobroOG 2003

rocksupastar #3 rocksupastarFounder

yea, when we all went to go see Jay Karas band... this guy asked for some change from my group.. we gave him all the change we had.. then we got screwed later, cause we had no money for the tolls.. like ZERO money.. hahah, good times, but i hope the guy atleast spent it on some food atleast.

forrestina #3.1 forrestinaOG 2002

he said that he and his wife needed it. from what i saw-his wife turned out to be another guy.

skaorsk8 #3.1.1 skaorsk8OG 2002

that's the person i'm talking about, the one i gave money to. i think his wife WAS kinda scary looking. but hey, he was still with her.

ophelia #3.2 opheliaOG 2003 funny

YO!!!...I think we got approached by the same guy!...He asked me for money & I automtically was like "NO!" cause it was obvious he'd just use it on boose....So then he tries to seduce Hill into giving him money, & goes on to tell him some made up story about how he got bit by a pitbull & for some reason that was a reason for us to support his drug habit....So Dan ends up getting suckered & gives the guy all he has...They kept in contact...I think they're dating now...

skaorsk8 #3.2.1 skaorsk8OG 2002

you're obviously upset becuase i would not allow you to give the guy $1 so you could grind on him...i mean, that's just sick drummond, you have a real problem

ophelia #3.2.1.1 opheliaOG 2003 stupid

(alright, I gave the un-incriminating version of the story before, now I think it's time to blow the lid off the suckah)....This bum, was not just, a bum....he was also a prostitute...and hill, wasn't donating to him, but paying him for services...but you DIDN'T hear that from me, noooo sirree bob

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

all right...someone mark the above post stupid as quick as humanly possible. what poor taste. and he still can't play guitar, the sap.

ophelia opheliaOG 2003 offtopic

still can't play guitar, what?....

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

shhhh. don't speak. i know just what your thinking. and i don't need your reasons.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

don't tell me cause it huuuuurrttts!

skaorsk8 #2 skaorsk8OG 2002

yo. see. hold up. i have a theory on this.

I'm 23 years old. if i go out with my friends to get A beer (let alone 2...or even if i buy a round), i'm going to spend at LEAST 5 bucks. especially in the city.

Now, if I could spend 5 bucks and buy a beer i dont' really need, i think i could give 20% of that to a guy on the street. it's a stinkin DOLLAR. big deal. think about it. sometimes i spend 13 of those dollars on a CD i dont' really need, that turns out to only have a couple of good songs. Am I THAT selfish I can't give 1/13th of that money to a guy on the street. ridiculous. I dont understand why people say "oh they might spend it on beer don't give it to them". so what, you give me money, i might buy a beer with it too.

When we were in Poughkipsie, a guy came up to me and asked me for money. I gave him a dollar and said...now what's going on? why aren't you working? I got the dude's life story. He was working on and off, but jobs were hard for a guy with no house and being kinda dirty and all. i felt really bad. I gave him another dollar. my friends were all perplexed...like, why am I wasting money...i just don't get that. how much drugs can you REALLY buy with 2 dollars? If he's hungry, he'll get some food. If he doesn't, well, that's his choice.

ekulu #2.1 ekuluOG 2002

yea, but you arent an alcoholic. well at least i don't think you are. If yoiu give money to homeless people on the street here you could very well be supporting alcoholism and drug use. Plus they guy we talked to was high and drunk at the time (you could smell the odor of both substances), and to get, like i said, can be a very expensive habit. You can wast your money on a beer or a round or an cd's, but you havea Job. They can't afford to waste their money on such things, yet often do anyway. So I dont think it would be exactly right to give my money (especially when i barely have any myself) to aperson who obviously have misused his own money in drug and substance abuse. And if i begin to give out money hile I'm preaching, people will start think I'm some sort of meal ticket and keep asking. If the person is hungry, I'll buy them food. But NEVER will i jus give them money.

T
#2.2 toxicgirlOG 2003

I never really thought of it like this...

SOMETIMES you find a homeless person who is a victim of society. He can't get a job because he doesn't have an address. And he has trouble getting cleaned up for an interview because he doesn't have a home. It's a catch 22. (Kinda like a college student getting denied a job because of their lack of experience. Well how else are you going to get the experience unless you are hired???) But then again, sometimes you ARE fuelling addiction by giving a homeless person money. No matter what, someone loses. But I do feel bad for the homeless people out there who are trying to get out of the hole they are in and can't find a way out.

thatdarngirl #1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

I was in the city (NYC for those of you who that isn't THE city) and there was soooo many more homeless people then I ever remember before. It was really sad.

And when people ask for money so they can buy food offer to go and just buy the food for them because usually they want to spend the money on something else.
