by Alright, we all have our dislikes, that's for sure...Here's a thread specifically designed for us to focus on music, we can't stand....
I personally have a lot of problems w/pop & hip-hop...granted, both can be fun to dance to & get silly with...But, when it comes to what I'd listen to in my car or room, I have a hard time ignoring the shallowness & materialism glorified in most(not all) of rap, haha, sorry, songs made by people who can't play instruments, about gold chains, & loose women, and sometimes about absolutely nothing at all, just aint doin it for me...And, a lota commercial rock too, like nickleback &crap like that..ICK!...Alright, now, discuss amongst yourselves...I forsee a lot of fights starting in this thread, haha..remember, it's OPINIONS, don't want any hard feelins forming in here

Wow, even my dislike tastes are mostly poppy, i can't stand what everyone else can't stand. I mean i hate 80's hair bands like everyone else. I HATE disco. Mostly because i dated a woman who called herself the disco queen. But this is my life story so i digress. I can't stand easy listening or jazz. And i hate the thrice crap as well. I can't stand emo. I am trying to like it, but i just don't get it. Most of all, MOST OF ALL, i hate bands that have ONE good song on a cd, i mean one good @#%&$ song!!! Give me back my money!!!
Man..It's amazing how varied human interests are..how, something that makes one person happy can make another person irritated...I LOVE jazz & a lot of emo...thing is, there's a lot of discrepancies over what emo is...a lot of people mistake it for what it's not..thrice(which I love by the way) is like a mixture of metal&punk&hardcore..they're not really all that emo
i guess i agree with pat alot on this, and i'll add that i really can't stand country western music. but come on, a lot of jazz is amazing... unless you mean smooth jazz (i.e. elevator music) in that case i see where you're coming from. and thrice crap?? i admit the vocals can wear on the ears but the music itself is amazing... 95% of bands you listen to wouldn't be able to musically master the stuff they play if they tried
I just learned how to play one of their hardest songs & it's literally hightened my metal chops(palm muting, quick finger movements, etc.)..to learn a song, and actually get better @ you insturment because of it, that says a lot about the band who wrote the song....& I suppose the vocals are an aqcuired taste, never bothered me though

I try to appreciate all music for something, even if i can't say that I like it. I just like music that manipulates emotions, and makes you feel something. i think that's so much more important than being technically impressive. It's great when a musician or band can combine great skills and make you feel something at the same time though. music i really hate? only really christmas songs that they play at the mall, country western crap, or any over-produced studio fluff that was put together for the sole purpose of making money.

well, yeah, that's basically what I'm talking about, music that's put together as more of a product than art, I can't stand that..& music that promotes materialism - which is basically like, 90% of rap..lol, HOW in the world are people getting paid to write rhymes about their rimms??...I mean, it's funny & all, & it can be amusing to dance to @ parties, but, I think they mean to be taken seriously..which I cannot do..& on TOP of the shallow message in the lyrics, there's no more than a beat box & two notes off a keyboard involved in the "music" behind it...now, I'm not saying I only enjoy complex music at ALL...but stuff that's blatenly talentless, that I don't like

i hate *hair bands* from the 80s-90s like Motley Crue or Poison and the like.
yeah, but 80's metal definitely had it's talented end too....the whole hair band thing was basically metal for the masses, commercialized & glamed up, but bands like Metallica & Quensryche & Dream Theater, that stuff was cool...
the 3 bands u mention are definately more serious musicians. the bands I'm thinking of were in it for the women, the drugs, and the hair spray.
for real. metallica and dream theater are some of the most talented musicians i've ever heard. and dream theater has amazing stamina with their 13+ min. songs.

Some punk music like that anti-government stuff i cant stand. Man chill out dude its not like youre trapped in a cell by the government, its your own ignorance trapping you. The only anti-government song I like is My Own Country by Pennywise, but thats because Pennywise is talented and puts good music and doesnt drone on endlessly song after song about it. And they at least put lyrics that make sense, since fools do really run the government. But like that song "youre gonna die gonna die gonna die for you government..." thats a bunch of crap. stop whining, its your choice to enlist in the army anyway so if you dont want to die for your government dont go to war.
ey, THE MAN has been oppressing, supressing, DEPRESSING, and transgressing against people for thousands of years....somebody's gotta stand up to'm..it's better you sing about it than go try & burn the white house down..although, you're right, for your band's ENTIRE lyrical content to be focused on government bashing is a tad bit one dimensional and can get verrry boring to listen to
we always tend to look down on the government maybe cuz we only think about the bad things it does, but we gotta look on the bright side too. think about all the services and things the government has provided: schooling, police, firefighting, and most importantly, allowing us to proclaim the good news.
you're right. it could be like china up in here. in china, everything we talk about here we'd be KILLED for. no question. the american government is a wreck, but it serves a purpose and it stays "placed in it's relative position" for good reason. one of a few, like you mentioned, is us being able to preach.

well, u gota realize different generations are naturally attracted to different things..sure, u might like SOME contemporary stuff...but for the most part, stuff coming out now is gonna have a different vibe than what kids of your generation were into, so it's not gonna be as appealing to you...when elvis was out, parents thought he was the devil, he was like the equivalent of marylin manson to people back then..lol..the generation gap does wonders, it's amazing

theres this newish band out called the Darkness, I hear they sound alot like the genre of music I grew up to cept much MORE explicit. I would probably like them if i was not a JW, from what I've read they just too...satanic sounding (ie Black Sabbath-like)(but worse)

when i listen to rap it's because it's got a great beat, it's comical, or it's got a great flow. i just never found these in eminem. to each his own, but as mel knows "we don't play that in my car" lol

okay, hands down: eminem's flow is GREAT. he just needs to do some work with the Neptunes and he'd be unstoppable. his flows make perfect sense and are nearly conversational, unlike SO many rappers. look at a lyric sheet for ludacris and then look at a lyric sheet for eminem. luda is awesome and hilarious, but 1/3 of each song is spent asking "what did he just say" or "what does he mean by that?" and you'll see that Eminem puts together some complicated yet completely coherant stuff, even if it is a lil bitter and personal to the point of "just the shut the heck up." his next step should be to do some party anthems and songs about being RICH like all the other rappers! i'm not even much of a fan, but i do know this much.
You gotta be kidding. I think "Lose Yourself" has to be the best rap song I've ever heard. I just wish he didn't swear so much.

yeah i know. but i do love the rap with a purpose. rappers can actually be really intelligent. tyring to make a smooth flow, cultural refrences, solving problems, making a point about social conditions. some of them are great but many commercial ones today are just to dumb to listen to.
