Something Weird's Goin Down
So I've been listening to the emo & the hardcore & the indie rock/punk for a while now, played by bands that many have never heard of, that are for some reason are usually from NJ, and on small labels, and are no where NEAR famous...This is a scene that's been brewin' for a while now, &, it seems, it's starting to get exposure, I mean, the media's taking notice of it, and now wants a piece of the action, try'n make some money off of it. Has anybody else noticed this?...Slowly, but surely, emo/hardcore & indie rock are outa nowhere getting popular...I could care less how poplular it gets, I just don't want it to start sounding commercial..I turned on the T.V. today, and, this emo band that I love called The Early November's getting interviewed, & I'm like "WHAT THE HECK?!"...other bands, like Senses Fail, and Story Of The Year, are starting to get their name out there..I think the first to break into the mainstream was Finch, emo w/a tad bit'a hardcore simply because of the screaming...It's cool to see a genre that I like gaining recognition...But...For goodness sake, I hope they don't start collaborating w/DMX & stuff, haha...the MTV nation has no place in underground music, I don't want anything getting sugar coated so it can sell...DON'T DO IT!!..PLEASE!

It all started with Grandmaster Flash. em od.
you said it's cool for bands we love to be gaining recognition..i dont..at all...i mean..it's NICE for them..but i'm not friends w/ the people..i just like listening to their music and going to SMALL shows. and THAT is what i hate...big shows...and that is what comes w/ recognition.
yeah, my main concern really is just sound changing..there's this other thing that happens w/recognition besides just big shows(which is definately a side affect)...it's them realizing that the record label they're on does research to find out what music makes the most money @ the time..and that, if they listen to their label, they'll make more $, and so they go gay...this happens over and over again, sometimes stubtly, sometimes in more obvious ways
i hate that this happened with Saves the Day
lol u guys are just seeing this now thats what record companys do
yeah but the real bands will stay underground and not go pop punk.
yeah but who can blame these bands for trying to make a little bit of money for all their years of hard work. ya gotta understand a little bit if they sell out. they could be true to the art form but be so broke. and while it makes us happy, they're still livin on their momma's couch.
I think MTV is just trying to break new ground, cause britney isnt cuttin it anymore, they need to get where the kids are, and the punk/emo scene is gettin bigger, so thats where the money is.
