by Ok...i've pretty much realized that everyone here listens to rock or punk. Or country? Well I havent seen country but im sure some of you do. Anyway im not really into any of those, so I wanted to see if anyone here likes any R&B or Hip Hop. And of course i wanna see how many of you HATE it, cause im sure there are alot of you who do. So lemme know...I need a music Forum that I can at least participate in without being confused ;)

The only R&B that I own is Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Jill Scott. 3 albums out of 300+ yeah not a big fan of R&B.

joe butts is niiice, i hear Bump it Up everytime i turn on Madden 2004 cause they got his song on that (just thought id share that with all of u since im sure you care) b4 i hit rap/r&b i used to listen to country 24/7...alan jackson, garth brooks, brooks n dunn, and toby keith. but yea that was def 5+ years ago, i listen to those cds every now and then but not as much....not too many people like rap AND country but they're both good

i'm not crazy about hip hop lyrics in songs, but i love the beats. i try and get the instrumentals. and i love alicia keys, mary j, mya, aaliyah, erykah badu, faith evans.
i'm def. a tribe called quest fan...anything by them makes me wanna live in brooklyn. i dont know why.

Growing up in Central Jersey I was a complete R&B/Hip Hop fan!! Till this day hands down Notorious BIG greatest rapper and Mary J. Blidge, well have all her CD's!! Listened to Hot 97 everyday (when Dr. Dre and Ed Lover were on) and still think Tupac is alive... lol.
BUT I am a total rocker - always have been, probably always will be - there should be a cross section somewhere... lol.
I don't think anybody on here HATES ALL R&B/HIP HOP...Personally I think a good portion of it is shallow/materialistic/non talented..but...Stuff like The Roots & OutKast & K-Os is cool ...but, i mean, to me, a genre where a large percent of it's culture is girls in thongs and shiney rims, spelling words wrong on purpose, and computer generated beats that a 7 year old girl could make, i mean, c'mon...Rappers themselves will even admit how superficial the content of the music is sometimes...

you make a good point...but rapping isnt as easy as it seems. try to sit down and write a rap that lyrically makes sense..thats HARD. THEN you gotta be able to rap it...people say rapping is easy, but then when they try to rap they sound stupid. i dun mean YOU in particular, im just sayin "people" in general. and the beats...haha say that to Swizz Beats and Dre. and every DJ ever...it may "seem" easy but thats cause they've gone through all the mix-tapes and they're good. i mean yea...there are dumb songs out there, but there are dumb songs in every genre.

see, that's the funny thing..I don't listen to rap for musical pleasure @ all, if i'm listening to it, the only reason is cause i might find the song humerous or something...and, jokingly, i have from time to time been known to freestyle..i've actually made a few like, complete songs that sound like something an actual rapper would use - cause like sometimes I'll start & can't stop...but..again..i just like it for it's comical value, i think rap's hilarious...usually not in a good way

WELL, I listen to EVERYTHING, just depends on my mood. BUT when i go dancing i like to dance to r&b/Hip-hop, you know something with a "beat".

I like some forms of it, but not the hard core stuff.....I really like stuff that has a good beat to it, without being "inapproriate." I love dancing, so any R&B or Hip Hop that has a good beat or something like that, I'll listen to.
yea i def agree wit ya there. the beats always catch me, but then the words wind up being inappropiate as you said, and then u gotta make a choice. im really into the old school r&b, well...old school for me...like Jodeci,112,Boys2Men and the old Dru Hill...things like that. alot of the new r&b gets corny, but i def like Ruben's new cd...just about every song is a slow jam but i like slow songs so its aight wit me
Yeah...sometimes there is a fine line...you gotta choose for yourself. But I like the sounds of stuff like you mentioned...I like the old school stuff too...Boys 2 Men, especially.
