sugarcult biting

hunkpapap by hunkpapapOG 2003 · Sep 3, 2003 · 209 views

Ok, so i'm listening to a cd of a band called Midtown. They were a recommendation and a good one i might add, but they sound EXACTLY like Sugarcult. I mean every single song. It kinda turns me off.

But i was listening to another band favorite (Splender) of mine and they have a song that sounds just like a sugarcult song. So that is two bands that i could think of that think they are sugarcult.

It impressed me how a band from a relatively short period of time ago that is not that commercially recognized has had such an impact on music.

So my question is this: Anyone know of another band that either 1) Sounds like sugarcult (to further my theory) or 2) Has been fairly recent and had an impact on you or music that you have noticed....

ok, lol, whether midtown sounds like sugar cult or not, when a band comes out..and, they display a certain vibe/sound, then, shortly thereafter, another band comes out, w/a simular vibe & sound, it's not because the latter band was influenced by the first one, it's because the record industry had success w/the first one, and so they send the scouts out to find more that $ound the $ame...think about it, both bands, by the time they come out, had been crafting their sound, probably for years, SEPERATE from eachother...all the public sees though is two bands coming out that sound alike..but, as much music as there is out there, there will always be bands that sound simular who aren't even aware of eachother's existance

WHAAAAAAAAAT?! Sugarcult does NOT sound like Midtown!!! sugarcult is much more popier and punkier than midtown is...midtown has FAR more slower songs...i love both these bands but i dont think they're the same. similiar one or two but thast about all. btw, which cd are you talking about? save the world, lose the girl, or living well is the best revenge?

no no no no no, Midtown sounds like Sugarcult...

skaorsk8 #2.1.1 skaorsk8OG 2002

i will agree..."one last time" by midtown does indeed sound like "lost in you" by sugarcult. maybe we have enough music in the world, now it's ok to copy.

As a fan of Midtown from before their debut LP album, I have to say that Midtown has a better sound than Sugarcult. Sugarcult is a band I have just recently (past year and a half) gotten somewhat interested in, although I don't love them. But Sugarcult doesnt sound like midtown, they are more of a poppy sound, as you mentioned. They are addicting, but they sound too much like some other poppypunk bands who I also like but can't listen to for too long (New Found Glory, Allister, etc.) Sugarcult is very straightforward in trying to get you addicted to their music, showing flashes of excitement and fun but Midtown is much more addicting for me because I can listen to them and never get bored. They're not so sporadic...its hard to explain.

yea! your right..i love sugarcult but do get tired of them...midtown i never do. interesting. but the thing with sugarcult...i love EVERY song on the album but w/ midtown i skip over one or two. on both cds.

#2) sublime. everyone loves them and tries to be like them.

fivezero #1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

i think sublime, if Bradley didn't die, would have exploded and changed the way music was then. and we'd be experiencing different bands now. i believe that. same with nirvana.

skaorsk8 #1.1.1 skaorsk8OG 2002

yo, brian. enough about nirvana. what horrible songwriting. seriously. i give dave grohl a lot of respect, though. sublime...their 40 oz album is still amazing...ball and chain...ebin...quality. (we stayed in this guy's pad once, it was where some dudes got hacked up back in 95..it was great, though...shout out to louie-dog)

fivezero #1.1.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

yeah, man. 40oz to Freedom is an amazing record. i used to love this band so much. the lurid content is the only thing that stalls me from being a total sublime-freak. i like 'don't push' the best. and 'what happened': "she may be an angel, she might be a creep, she might be black, white, american indian or japanese!"

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Have you heard Scarlet Begonias? Soooo amazing.

malibu malibuOG 2001

i love "Rivers of Babylon" and how you can follow along in your bible as they sing it.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

"We sold some mushroom tea. we sold some extacy. we sold nitrous, opium, acid, heroin, and PCP. And now I hear the police comin' after me. Yes now I hear the police comin' after me. The one scarlet with the flowers in her hair, she's got the police comin' after me." naughty!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

That's my favorite part because I always try to sing it with him and end up stuttering.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

yeah, thats my favorite part too. i USED to stutter it. but after years of saying it out loud, like dashboard fans with dashboard songs, i know it well and i would hang myself if i stuttered it.

heee heee. playing 40 oz to freedom as pulling into the hall parking lot. didn't even remember. got a look and immediately turned it off.

jamiephaser #1.1.1.3 jamiephaserOG 2003

jamiephaser #1.1.1.4 jamiephaserOG 2003

Oh man dan I think I am dumber from reading ur post. Bad songwiritng you gotta be crazy to say that and agree with brian. There would different if kurt and the sublime guy didnt die. Kurt deffently was a awesome song writer if u ever saw the mtv unplugged of nirvana u would know. But I guess back in 94 u where hung up on the new kids on the block still and manuto. The unique thing about kurt was that he was able to combine all of his influences in a unique way. Unique being a key word

malibu malibuOG 2001

i actually liked (but not loved)nirvana for a very long time. then we got stuck at barnes & nobles one day so i spent the time by reading his journals (there's this book and its letters he wrote, parts of his journals, thoughts, music he never finished) and gained such profound appreciation for him from that.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001

yea, that MTV unplugged cd is an awesome nirvana album..i was in 5th grade when he died..i remember we had a student teacher and he was the only one who knew who kurt cobain was..none of my friends did. haha

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002

they put up pictures of him on the 5 year anniversary of his death in my sophomore year of high school. people wore all black and stuff it was kinda over the top.

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

yo you were still a sophmore then...wow...that's crazy. when he died i was in 8th grade. so then on the 5 year anniversary i was in college already. but now, i'm mature! guys mature faster than girls! GO METS!

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002

okay calling yourself mature doesn't work babe

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 offtopic

yea i remember... this kid , our star line backer.. who was like 6'5 320 lbs.. jumped off a roof.. because he was so upset about cobain.. and he wanted to die too.. but of course being as big as he was.. only put a dent into the concrete.

malibu malibuOG 2001

are you serious?

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

is he ever really serious? i feel that once a year we need to devote a day to complete and utter nonsense. like ty does each and every day. we can just post inlikely clusters of words and it's imperative each post be completely off the wall and either completely true or completely false. ian, whatayasay?!
