Disposable DVD's?
When I read that, I thought to myself, aren't ALL DVD's Disposable?
Then I started reading. Disposable DVD's are like normal DVD's, but they stop working after 48 hours after opening the package. Instead of renting movies, you buy these DVD's and watch the movie as much as you want, until the end of 2 diurnal anamolies (or 2 days). This idea will allow stores like Walmart to compete with companies like Blockbuster. It's pretty cool. If you'd like to read more go here:

Circuit City tried that a few years ago with Divx DVDs. But you had to buy a special DVD player that could play Divx.

The DVD's are actually made of the same stuff as those listerine breath strips, the darn things just disapear.
So, it's now my understanding that these DVD's are only disposable, if one sucks on them...interesting...
no no, you dont suck, you put them on your tongue!
hey you guys know that trick with those strips? the warmth of your hand makes the strip bend all by itself. just hold out your palm, and place the strip on top, and watch it fold! then flip it over after a few seconds. do this over and over until people say your breath really reeks.
i would not could not should not read more
i think these articles are such a bore
Just get dvd xcopy. Buy these dvds. copy them. Although no one can get it now because dvd xcopy is in litigation. hahahaha. i can get it though. a guy i work with has it. you all stink. (i will now accept the mountain of people who will reply and say they have xcopy or can get xcopy. you are all lying and will perish shortly. so just save your comments.) if you dont have x copy you cant copy the menus or any extra stuff.
tell me when xcopy becomes illegal, then I won't feel so bad when I download a pirated version of it.
this is your other option. probably the only option.
so you'll be making 2 copyright infringements instead of one. NICE!
no. when its illegal to sell, then I'll download it, since then I won't be stealing money from the programmers that wrote it, since they can't make money off it anymore.
And I'd only copy DVDs that I own, and don't want to be damaged. I've scratched so many CDs, lost CDs that I own, or had other people "borrow" or lost them that its ridiculous. So if I started collecting DVDs I'd want to be able to copy them as easily as I do my CDs.
yea, good one clinton! i only read it for the articles.
Yeah that'd be cool if you could do that, but, I dunno, I'm kind of assuming that they're probaly a step ahead w/that, they probably have them encrypted in some way that dissalowes them from being copied
This reminds of me of something I saw shopping once- disposable bathingsuits. They disolve.
the idea doesn't sound too bad...but its gonna create so much waste, since the dvd's become worthless after two days. We are supposed to recycle...not create more waste.
interesting that you bring this up, I thought the same thing. The company will provide you with envelopes and postage to send back up to 5 CD's at a time for recycling. (still, the envelopes, postage, and packaging for the DVD's all are a waste, and will probably not be recycled. Besides, who's going to want to take the time to send in the DVD's?)
yeah, thats so much effort, most people would probably just throw them in the garbage. If they worked out a special recycle bin for them that the garbage men took, that would be convinient, but i highly doubt it would become as popular as cans and bottles
Gayest idea i've ever heard.
If anything it'll promote piracy... instead of spending 20 bucks.. people can spend 6 bucks and copy a movie. stupid. almost as stupid as the invention of sliced bread.
except, replace "as stupid as" with "the complete opposite of"
so what's to prevent me from copying this new DVD? does it have digital and physical copy-protection ?
same protections that normal dvds have. NONE
yay
I think this is a decent idea just so you don't have to return DVDs to the rental store. But, this idea has already been attempted and failed really bad. (It was called DivX, before the video codec format of the same name came out) We'll see if this takes off.
The difference between this and DivX, I think, is that this is a physical expiration. The DVD medium actually reacts to its environment and slowly but surely dies, while the DivX scheme I think was software based, adn your dvd player had to support DivX to play any DivX dvds.
