I saw Brother Eckles this Saturday. He came into my work and ordered coffee. I haven't seen him since he used to be in my hall seven years ago. When he smiled at me, and thanked me for the free coffee, his worn face wrinkled at the corners of his eyes and around his mouth and it made me think how long it had really been.
After work, i indulged myslef in the silence and the slow stride to my car. The day had been full of screaming sirens, and honking cars on the corner outside of the cafe. And inside were fast feet bringing food to customers, and taking the orders of countless rude people who think they're richer than the person standing next to them. They all want food, and they all want it at the same time. They forget that humans have two hands, two feet, and a mind that can only conquer so many tasks at once.
When the city crowd had come in. It was almost as if they all came together because they came at the same time. I always enjoy taking their orders because they're nice and just happy to be in fresh rural air and out of NYC. One guy with his girlfriend looked like he was from Brazil. He was a great looking guy dressed in a jean jacket over a soccer jersey. I asked him where he was from. He was from Venezuela. I was close. I'd like to be that guy. He was neat.
