She Danced with Me
I choked on my words a little
but she said, 'Yes.'
I took her soft hand
and led her to the crowded floor.
A quiet song came on,
one I heard she liked.
She came closer.
I put one arm around her warm body.
She put her head against my chest.
Such a serene smile.
Her eyes she kept shut.
I closed mine.
We just swayed to the music,
but the music didn't matter.
I could stay here forever.
I memorized the moment...
Her hair smelled of flowers.
And I could feel the rhythm of her breath,
her chest moving up and down.
I became aware of every point
my body touched hers.
Is she trembling,
or is that me?
I opened my eyes
and gazed into her subtle blue stare.
Still with a smile,
she thanked me for the dance.
'My pleasure,' I said.
I wonder if she knows
how much I meant that?
Now when I'm with her,
I feel a new calm from within.
All because
she danced with me...
