Back from the Mountains of Kentucky

g.f.s.rocks by g.f.s.rocks · Aug 21, 2007 · 529 views · · · Journal

Some things learned while in Kentucky:

- The food is horrendous
- Even if you have Analog phone service, you still cant send text messages
- People who live in trailers even think they need to simplify their life
- The Baptist and the Pentecostals will test your Bible knowledge
- People actually stand by the long conclusion in Mark 16 for a basis for their faith
- If you dont have an SUV you cant reach some of the houses/trailers
- Old tires make great flower pots in the front lawn
- They are in absolutely no rush, so you can stay at the door for hours
- When driving off on one of the dirt side roads, you may just end up in a marijuana plantation, at which point you turn the vehicle around and get out of there before you get shot
- Yes even the 12 year old sons have rifles that they play with
- When having a pet wolf, make sure it is chained up because it will kill everything
- The highest paid jobs are coal miners at a whopping $25 an hour
- Walmart is open 24/7 and it is the social life after 9pm
- The locals dont know how beautiful a golf course they have down there
- Rattlesnakes and Copperheads are poisonous and are in the high grass
- You will eventually begin your presentation with "How Y'All doin round here??" and than say to yourself, did I just speak like a southerner??
- Sonic shakes ARE good
- The Cumberland Gap is beautiful
- You begin to value every single tooth in your mouth
- I cant believe there is such a thing as a dry county
- Even the most unlivable trailers will have a satellite dish hooked up to it (even some with 52" LCD TV's)

- I love NJ

no one looks at you weird when you have a gun locker filled with guns - the only reason living in the south would possibly appeal to me

My dad has a gun locker. LOL!

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

have you ever been shot?

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

i don't really like guns for the fact of .. shooting or violence.. i like the really old guns like the ones that cowboys used. ha. i just think they look cool and historically they are cool. i don't actually want to shoot anyone. and automatic weapons do nothing for me. i just like the old old guns.

My parents pioneered in Kentucky for 2 or so years. My mom learned a lot of good southern cooking. Like biscuits and gravy. They're awesome.

A
alexOG 2001 ·

if you had a wolf and a monkey, the monkey could ride the wolf. and you could give the monkey ninja weapons. your own personal attack monkey.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

we're so gettin' monkeys

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

HECK YES!!!

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

there were warnings up in belize not to try to keep monkeys as pets. they're dirty and can be very dangerous, plus it's illegal in this country. so not to be a buzzkill but some things should not even be joked about!!

oooh... but on a serious note, look at the pics on the testimonials page

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

ohhhh, that first pic on the testimonial page made me queasy

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

Now whenever I went somewhere public, I left Koto in the car. He retaliated by chewing the seats, taking off his diaper and smearing poop around the car, and destroying anything I had left lying around.

ha

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

THANNNNNNK YOU debbie downer!!! :P

A
alexOG 2001 ·

the monkeys randomly attacking people totally reminds me of my cat. you can just be petting her and she'll be all nice, and then without any warning signs she attack you, and try to rip your face off.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

This sounds like my cat, PoPo. They should be friends.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

"There's always that one guy at a party that tells you all the reaons you don't want a monkey----they poop in their hand in throw in around in a festive manner---but what you don't understand is....those are all the reasons i WANT a pet monkey".

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

i feel ya, yo. a party aint a party til the monkey's flinging poo at the guests.

Kentucky in october is much nicer. People must be a lot nicer then too. The territory we worked was extremely receptive, we placed about 150 books and answered about 4 prayers so I would say that kentuckians must just not do well in the heat. What county did you guys go to by the way?

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

We were in Bell County. Where did you guys go? How long were you there for?

U
ukrainiumOG 2002 ·

We went to leslie county for a week. You didn't happen to go with the eadys did you?

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

No, I went with the Gillette congregation... Who did you go with?

U
ukrainiumOG 2002 ·

I went with my hall (Roseto cong.) and some from stroudsburg hall.
