Hurtling through the air

It's now required to take 6 hours worth of driving lessons in New Jersey unless you wait until you're 17 and then you get your permit for a low price of $15, joy. I opted to wait until I turned 17 since my father and I couldn't agree on who would pay for lessons. Well, now that I have a permit I can legally drive, but physically I do not know how to operate a motor vehicle. After a 'lesson' with my father in which I was headed straight for the curb when he started screaming for me to hit the brakes, veins popping out of his forehead and all, I decided I'd rather never drive then have him teach me. We decided on lessons paid by him(coudln't that have been decided a year ago so I could already be driving? of course not!). My first two hour lesson took place on Saturday, shortly before I left for the party (which was fun). The instructor must think it fun to take drivers, who can only drive go-karts, and put them on Route 46 with lots of traffic. Scary enough? Not yet. It poured a lot, the first time in months. Every time I stopped at a light the rain would completly halt as well, and when the light was about to turn green it would start pouring. Witch craft! The day could only get better, especially since the only thing I can do is drive in an exact straight line (and I can mess even that up). No turning, NO switching lanes, nothing of the sort. I finally decided I liked speeding though until the thought that I was hurtling through the air at 60 mph with nothing between me and death besides a thin layer of metal. An unsettling thought I assure you. I'm fairly sure I left nail marks in the steering wheel and in my palms. My arms are still sore. All in all, an unforgettable experience. Did I mention that people think it's fun to, when they see the 'student driver' sign, cut off the car? Yeah, real cool. See how you like it when you're learning how to drive again with an arm and leg missing because you messed with the wrong student driver budy!
