Last Minute Sub. Talk
ARIGHT YOU GUYS LET ME KNOW HOW THIS SOUNDS I WAS ASKED TO DO IT LAST MINUTE AND WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO IMPROVE IT?
Jehovah Protects Those Who Follow Him
People in the past as well as today, did what they felt like and they didn’t worry about what the consequences were. In that time, they ignored all warnings and laws and continued to do what they wanted to do. This included such things as going against what they were taught and what was provided for them to protect them from harm. True, from time to time there was someone alarming them that they should go back to what is right, because the way they are leading now will end in utter destruction, but these people were mocked and scorned for doing what is right. The question is how would these people be reprimanded for what they have been doing? This brings us to what occurred in Damascus and how Jehovah dealt with them and others who went against his guidance and direction. Please follow with me at Isaiah 17:1-14….
How up building it is for those who follow Jehovah and his commandments to realize that it doesn’t take much to listen to Jehovah. All He asks from those dedicated to Him are exclusive devotion and only heartfelt sacred service. And it is sad to hear about these people such as those in Damascus who ignored Jehovah who provided for them everything they needed to survive yet they mocked him. Just as it brought out in verse 10…. We can see that in the past he rebuked these nations, rebuking meaning to criticize or reprove sharply; reprimand which shows the justice and power that Jehovah has. We can be sure that Jehovah will exercise that power when he will destroy every trouble making organization and individual in these times. Just as in the past we too today get mocked and scorned for trying to heed this warning. But if we follow Him we can be confident that the ”morning” when their tribulations will end is fast approaching.

Hey, all I want is some feedback on it!
i thought a good point brought up in the bible reading, and in the isaiah book, was that israel was really unfaithful. instead of relying on Jehovah to deliver them, they felt that they should take matters into their own hands and make alliances with other nations. i think thats a good point cuz you can apply it to modern day.
Here's my talk....
I'm sure all of us, as young school children, got into trouble in one form or another. And, invariably, we would get in trouble with a friend or two, because of all of us decided to do something foolish as a group. Now, if you are the adult present, say a teacher, what would you do? Is it fair to punish only the child you know best? Well, since it is was a group dicision made by these young ones, no doubt you would assign an appropriate amount of discipline to each of the children.
We have a similar situation in tonight's bible reading, where we read about the nation of Damascus being judged because of its alliance with the sinful 10 tribes of Israel. These two nations, working together, foolishly tried to conquer Judah. What was Jehovah's response, and how did he deal with those nations? He made the appropriate amount of discipline occour. And that amount of discipline applies, not only for Damascus, but for all nations that create problems for Jehovah's people and oppose his soverignty. Let's read about what the judgement was against Damascus in Isaiah 17: verses 1-14.

Describing the fate of national groups that are opposed to God’s sovereignty, the Bible states that they will be “like a thistle whirl before a stormwind.” (Isa. 17:13) Considering the thistle can be very beneficial. One scientist was quoted as saying that, while it starts out as a flower, this apparently innocent plant becomes a prickly monster, its leaves and flowers being covered with sharp thorns. In summer, the plant begins to dry up, but it appears so firmly rooted and so threatening that it seems impossible to get rid of it. When the thistle is fully developed, something strange takes place underground between the stalk and the roots: a cellular separation occurs, and it requires only the least breath of summer wind to sweep away the whole plant.” And so, just like this thistle, which seems fearsome but which the wind can so easily sweep away, those who oppose divine sovereignty will be swept away. The Biblical comparison “like a thistle” is accurate, showing how all nations that seem so powerful to us today are really nothing when compared to Jehovah and the way he will rid the earth of these people.
