Inspiration
I can't seem to find a book that I'm interested in reading. I just read "Claire Marvel" by Jonathan Bunham Schwarts and loved it. I'm into deeply thread love stories, mostly. No sci-fi or non-fiction.
Any suggestions?

Would you consider The Princess Bride science-fiction? Cause i just read that and loved it
i've never seen that book. i would love to read that.
amazon has the hardcover. i picked up the paperback from barnes & noble
"Life isn't fair; it's just fairer than death, that's all." This, I like.
lance has a copy. it's a good read.
Similar to the movie? Because I have that memorized?
mmm.. Great Gatsby?
Read it in high school. Loved it.
me too.. it's probably like the only skool book i was really into.
great expectations..ugh, nevermind
ugh is right. i don't even think that could be considered a love story. it's so depressing
Read it in high school. Didn't like it that much.
snuggle up to some cotton candy and pride and prejudice
YES Pride and Prejudice! Such a great book!!
is there actually anything to like about that book?
it helps to watch the movie...i liked the one with lawrence olivier
Read it in high school, along with evey Jane Austen book.
anything by jane austen is good-so is jane eyre. if you haven't read it yet, i think you'd really like it
Emma cracks me up. My class hated it so much but I love it because Emma is just so pathetic..and then you can go watch Clueless and it's just awesome that way
i hate jaen eyre so stinkin much. everyone continued to tell me it was wonderful so i read it in 6th grade. still remains on the most hated books i've ever read.
I think I read way too much in high school. I've read just about every "classic", so I'm on to contemporary fiction, which pales in comparison. It seems like everything on the Times Bestseller List is crappy.
i agree. but there are a lot of good older books that really aren't love stories but have some of it in there. Alexander Dumas' works, tale of 2 cities, i forget what else. I just finished 1984 which kinda had love but was scary at the same time. shakespeare is good, but you probably read most of it, huh? by the way, Much Ado About Nothing is at Drew U. the end of the month-want to go?
I'm always up for Shakespeare theatre. I read 3 Musketeers, A Tale of 2 Cities and 1984 like 4 times (that's my favorite book of all time!) That's a little misleading, though, because it is kinda scary, but at the core, I think it's still a love story. Winston & Julia and how they want to be together but can't and end up...well, the way they end up (without ruining the book for everyone else). I like it because it creates a new world really vividly; the imagery is spectacular. A few times I looked up from the book and was surprised there wasn't a telescreen on my wall.
The book " Songs of Solomon" And " Ecclesiastes" are good reads and good Theater oppurtunities if you ask me.
haha-i was thinking the same thing after i read it-i felt like i was being watched. it DOES create a vivid new world, only it's very horrid. A Clockwork Orange is kinda like that too. It's good like Dean said, but more violent. good if you like disturbing alternate realities. Also, 3 Musketeers is only one book in a kind of series. If you liked it you'll like his others b/c they are along the same lines (Count of Monte Cristo was amazing and the movie was nothing like it).
I thought it would be just like the movie. I'll try that one too. I saw it on sale at B&N for $7. Cool! Let me know about the Shakespeare. You stood me up last time, twice and you'll see some tears...
yo i'll go to that much ado about nothing, i really enjoy shakespeare's comedies...
if your serious, we're going the first weekend in june
oooo are they doing shakespeare in the park again??
in princeton or central park? that is in the summer and the schedule isn't up yet for either. this one is at Drew University
yeah i was thinking of that one yeah. this one at drew tho-what's the sched like for that? that's near morristown right?
yeah, it's in madison which is near morristown. it's from May 27-June 17 or something like that. you can get the link from the university website
cool if you guys go let me know id love to check it out
ahhh that's too far. tell them to drive north a little. tell them to come to my house and we can have the play there.
it's not that far lazy bum
baaaaah keep quiet. go pretend to be shakira.
ey my hair is not that blonde and crazy all the time nowadays!
i have the movie they made of 1984 (i love that book). i think i used to have Farenheit 451 too.
OK, here's my suggestions: as beachbum said, 1984 is good, I also liked A Clockwork Orange a lot, and then Brave New Wold was interesting. If you've read a little Vonnegut, I suggest reading everything he's written. I especially liked "Breakfast of Champions", "Slaughterhouse 5"(or Schlachthaus-fünf) , "Cat's Cradle" and of course the truly great "Mother Night". but save "Mother Night" for later on, don't read it first.
Clockwork Orange's first 50 pages scared the crap out of me, so I stopped reading it. I loved 1984, and Brave New World was pretty good. I LOVE Vonnegut. I've read all of your suggestions except "Mother Night". I'll try that one. Thanks!
I think Brave New World, A Clokwork Orange, and 1984 are like my top three favorite books. 1984..there's just something so chilling-to-the-bone about it and it's so amazing. And A Brave New World..especially considering when it was written..is just pure genius.
i usedto liek thse kinds of books. 1984 is especially good, and long. i guess now i like more travel writing, but that's not ficton of course...
I don't understand what you are saying. You like raves?
pure genious...but a little dirty. wouldn't that be an r-rated book?
refer to reaf's What Up?! journal entry for an answer lol
;)
some of my personal favorties:
1) Catch 22!!!!!!!! so amazing. its like the wittiest banter you will every read. it may take a while cuz some parts you just have to re-read to catch the funny part but i've read it like 5 times already since january.
2) divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood.
3) schindlers list, but it might be too much if you don't like non-fiction. i usually don't but this story was good. tempted to puke a few times but just came out so great, and a fine story.
4) a tree grows in brookly
5) any and all of the baby-sitters club books.
6)jurassic park the book. the first one is 20 gazillion times better than the movie. but if you read it, you won't appreciate the movie anymore.
7)ella enchanted. even though its 4 little kids, i still gotta read it all the time.
8)the adventures of huckleberry finn
9)the pathwork girl of oz or any oz book you can find.
10)calvin and hobbs comic books
11)the pelican brief and the partner.
there are tons more but those came off the top of my head.
1) 1984
2) A Brave New World (or anything but him)
3) Clockwork Orange
4) Mr. Popers Penguins
5) Scarlet Letter (just for laughs)
6) The Client
7) Emma
8) Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man (to make your head hurt)
9) Oedipus
10) Beloved (they have sex with cows..and it's about ghosts..so concious decision)
11) The Awakening (feminist book)
12)The Prince
13) Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul books
14) Anne of Green Gable books
15) Little Women
i had to read the scarlet letter in school, and i don't remember thinking that it was funny. I found it to be incredibly long and full of ridiculously complicated descriptions.
It's actually a pretty dumb book, but under the circumstances that I read it* it was pretty funny.
*Those circumstances being a big fat teacher who was overly obssessed with sex because she hadn't had any in a long time because her husband left her (I don't wonder why, her personality isn't charming). She liked to discuss this book in detail with her sophmore classes.
HAHHAHAHAH, that was funny...very funny
oh my gosh, mr. poppers penguins. i loved that book so much!!!!!!!!! anything by roald dahl is simply amazing even if it is a quick read. and edward eager as well.
