She's Not That Innocent

Shocked and appalled, that's all I can say. I just watched Britney Spear's new video "Slave For You" and I am thoroughly disgusted. See, Britney Spears is my baby, always has been. But now, I'm not so sure. The only celebrity I ever "loved" has been Britney Spears, and I have held her out to be my "dream girl", the girl that would be perfect for me. The girl was not only beautiful, but fun to be with, funny, understanding, and slightly innocent. You have to realize, when I say "Britney Spears", I'm not really talking about the actual person, the singer and performer. I'm talking about the image. The persona that I have created in the depths of my imagination, that evolved from from love at first sight, that I nurtured and molded to form what I percieve to be perfection. So keep that in mind whenever I use the name "Britney Spears" throughout this article.
What I liked about Britney the most, was the fact that she always seemed innocent, and slightly naaive. I know lately she has been trying to shed that image (and all of her clothing in the process) and well, that is all TOTALLY blown out of the water in her new video. I mean come on! She's making out with 2 different guys at the same time, shaking her butt and showing off what she's got like no tomorrow. She keeps saying she's tired of people viewing her as a little girl, but to me, this is the stupidest, most immature thing she's done yet. And it really hurts! It's almost like watching the girl that you love (unknown to her) walk away with another guy. And while she doesn't know you like her, it's still like having you're heart speared, ripped out, fileted, roasted to a golden brown, and force fed to you: It will never taste good, no matter what how expensive the teriaki sauce is, or what wine you drink with it.
It's a reality shock to me, because in my mind, I still picture the Britney Spears of two years ago, the Britney Spears that I loved, whose image wasn't tarnished! The Britney Spears that didn't know the meaning of "mental awareness". The Britney Spears that didn't suffer from "Noclothesatol Syndrome". Oh Britney, how could you do this to me? Somehow, I guess always thought this whole "music career" thing was just a charade, and that she was waiting for me all along. Or that someday, I would meet her by chance and live happily ever after. Ah reality.
I suppose it's better this way somehow. I'll have to stop looking for Britney Spears and realize that there is no perfection, that beauty is only skin deep, and that hollywood is a terrible machine that requires you to lower your standards to keep up. I don't know where I'll go from here, but it looks like it's time to let go before I really get hurt.
