Matt's Tidbits

Ever get the urge to go on a marathon at the South Pole?? Well now you can! If you're up to the challenge, and you have 25 grand to blow on risking your life in sub zero temperatures, take the South Pole Challenge and go on the first marathon to the south pole!!

Why, you may ask, would anyone do something so incredibly stupid? "We wanted to offer something to those who had thought they had tried everything in the book," ANI managing director Anne Kershaw said. "No one has ever run a marathon to the South Pole. FOR 25 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!" (italics ours) Hmmmm... I wonder why?

The good news is, the race will take place in the summer months, where temperatures can skyrocket into the low negative teens. So when you think about it, it's not really much of a challenge at all. If you threw in a "no clothes rule," then it might be a little difficult. "The belief is we're self-sufficient -- we have two Twin Otters, a Cessna, and a turbine DC3, we have our own rescue people, we have our own medical backup," she said.

Im guessin the only people to show up to this will be the Polar Bear Club. Running in 65 degree weather doesnt sound like fun. -25 Sounds worse.

Yeah hopefully next spring/summer (2003) ill have a MKIV TT, would have liked it sooner but unfortunately all the cash i dropped on boarding trips this season and boarding in general has killed that. Waited 5 years 2 more to go, i can do it! :)

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

this one was actually on espn.com, i guess it's considered sports news. I found it in september and forgot about it, but fortunately it had caught my attention enough to bookmark it.

"Up to 75 competitors, each paying $25,000, will go through assessments of their health and running ability."

You pay for the privaledge, you dont get paid.

M
magnumwOG 2001

Uhh my fault... I guess i should stop cross training for it. And why in the hell would anyone in their right mind pay to do that? I'd run on the outside of the course and taunt all the people who paid :P

M
magnumwOG 2001

Your whole statement points to u makin 75,000$ plus when u get out of college. A house round here is like 300K dont know of any job once u get out of college u can get that. However jag x type is like the cheapest isnt it? So u maybe can pull that off.

tpham tphamOG 2001

well 300 k is like a 5 bedroom type house..

i'm looking at like 150-200k ... i'm working at a good job already.

should be getting a raise soon.

ians brother brandon used to have a peugeot... good car, but you cant find parts for them over here

N
nine9starOG 2001

shame - they have always been pretty good cars but now, man, they r sooooooo good :-D

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001

There is a peugeot dealership right by my house on 17 North....like 10 min from me. They have all these old cars and foreign cars in their lot. I guess thats the only place to find the parts.

iwz iwz

dude, my bro never had the peugeot... it was mine. my dad owned i think 3 of them over the years, and i got the 505 after he got our accord. the last year they sold peugeots in the US was '85 or '87, i think. mine was an 85. i had a great time with that car! you can get peugeot parts in a few places around, and the dealership g.f.s mentioned is the one we used to go to.
