IT / Ginger Unveiled
Welp, after all the commotion in the news a few months ago, IT / Ginger has finally been unveiled. To see a demonstration of Ginger you can go Here to see it in action. For all the fuss that was made, this looks like the most useless thing the american society needs. It looks like somethin out of a "Back to the Future" movie. If anything they should have made one of those cool hoverboards.
It's battery powered and weighs 80lbs. As light as they like to make it seem, 80lbs for most people isn't the lightest thing around if you would like to trasport it somewhere. It goes 12 and half miles a hour which is a lot faster than your average old lady power-walkin around your block. Its range is 11 miles; just far enough to get you to the store and buy some krispy kremes and back. And as far as movement in Cities, this is a good idea, however I doubt this will be allowed in subways or elevators. In any event, in those small happy hollywood movie cookie cutter towns like Celebration Florida, this might work. But for the majority of the country i don't think this will catch on.
If you're in for a quick laugh, watch the movies it uses to demonstrate Ginger in action to brighten up your day. However if it does catch on, i can see those gym memberships going on the increase. Just another way to make american's more lazy. I wonder if NYSC has stock.

"back in the day.. when I was young I'm not a kid anymore/but somedays.. I sit and wish I was a kid again"
ha ha man i loved that word, i think we had some diff ones tho
like divvy for an idiot and solid or sound for cool rofl

haha, I was there, I remember that. good stuff. I think I was there for both events.
id rather just stick to my old lady walker, thank you very much
where can i get one?!?!?
thanks for posting this, magnum. i wanted to post a story about it too, but you beat me to it! : )
i think this thing is really cool, actually. the technology in the balancing is awesome... you can go up a hill with it, and still stand up straight, and it supposedly is nearly impossible to fall off of. i think this would be really awesome for countries like japan where cities are super packed. also, for businesses that use small golf-carts or cars to travel short distances. i don't see them being useful in suburban or rural areas, though.
I mean i dont wanna knock it, its a awesome design i would have never thought we would see something like this. I mean it keeps itself balanced thats hot. But it just isnt practical around here, but your right maybe japan will use it. They are up on all those hot new technologys.
wow.. thats SOOO sweet... i really think it would get better mileage then my CAR!
For those who think the invention is silly, do some research for about 3 minutes, and you'll discover that Ginger solves a statistical problem, as noted on the official web site:
"Half of all car trips taken by Americans are less than five miles long and transport only the driver. Because Segway HT gives people the strength to carry bags and parcels and the range to cover more ground, it could be used instead of a car for many of these trips, saving time and money."
Addressing an issue that occurs with a frequency of 50% in its domain is a significant achievement.
Of course, this is no different than when the notion of "everyone owning a computer" was considered to be ridiculous. The Segway HT will evolve, and the intended environments for it will also evolve, in order to accommodate practical needs and wants of potential customers.
I can't recall the exact figure, but I believe about 80,000 units have been pre-ordered by UPS, FedEx, and USPS.
Imagine the uses on college campuses, and in urban downtown settings.
Also, remember that this is not supposed to be some sort of personal hovercraft that folds into your pocket. It's supposed to replace short-distance transportation, WITHOUT polluting the atmosphere. That's something that has NEVER been done before.
So yeah; it is amazing.
Awesome comment...ignore any past response I had....
ugh, dude, you really didn't need to write that.
Who me?????????????
haha, you modified it to be nicer. Well, I hope that you actually read it then
Well said. I think we may see a lot more of these things than we expect, especially future versions of it. But, either way, I just want to ride one of these things!
However a car is nice and warm in the winter and you can have a good stereo system in it. True there is headphones but will it come with a huge air horn to beep at people with?!?
ok ok . listen, all this does is make it easyer to get hit by a car! honestly, the type of congestion this thing will cause will be unreal. ther will be new "Ginger" laws and whatnot, and croswalk rules, like does a ginger user have to use the bike lane? will they be alowed to go into the park? just to name a few. but as a whole, americans are getting lazyer by the minuet. WALK learn to WALK. lol
Walk...whatever gets me off my feet is fine with me...
