To make the birds go away yesterday I tried a different technique, less physically harmful to the birds but perhaps more emotionally/mentally harmful...yelling, screaming, and waving my arms around...

Scare tactics are fine...It's the physical things that aren't good...Like throwing rocks and tennis balls and actually trying to hit the birds.
