punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

youre very right, using scriptures IS a big help... which is why the Bible is provided for us... what i do-not agree with is using the Bible online...time and time again we are asked by the F.F.&D.S. not to do that...

if you want to know why i think this, please ezmessage me....

....without profanity.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

somebody really used profanity to you???

starshiptrooper starshiptrooperOG 2003

there is a difference between profanity and swear words.
someone got that mixed up.

iwz iwz

wait a minute... what's the difference?

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

nawi think theyre pretty much the same.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

Yeah, I think so too. I thik Ian is hoping she doesn't explore this and give examples, lol.

starshiptrooper starshiptrooperOG 2003

swear words ( to me at least) are words u can use in everyday speech, ie. Jesus went to the bible *hell* or he was *damned* to a life in prison.
Profanity is words u wouldn't say under any condition, even if a desert spider was crawling up you leg.

iwz iwz

ok, to swear means:

To use profane oaths; curse.
Or
To use abusive, violent, or blasphemous language against; curse.

profanity means:

Abusive, vulgar, or irreverent language.

The thesaurus notes as synonyms of "profanity":

Synonyms: abuse, blasphemy, curse, cursing, cuss, cuss word, cussing, dirty language, dirty name, dirty word, execration, four-letter word, French, impiety, imprecation, irreverence, malediction, no-no, obscenity, profaneness, sacrilege, swearing, swearword

So, anyway, regardless of what you call it, saying words like those can be offensive to others when said with any sort of "tone" behind them.

NOTE: I'm not saying you said anything with malintent! I'm just making a point.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

and a very good point it is indeed!

A euphaNism is when you use a word to replace a swear word, like saying darn.
