i can tell you what NOT to get-a hamster. they LOOK all cute and cuddly, but they are pure evil under that ball of fluff.

I had hamsters before. In fact I probably had 3 generations. I originally bought 2, both male I thought. Well they ended up having children. Then the parents started eating the children so I ousted...

that happened w/ our first 2-Tom & Jerry. only "jerry" turned out to be Geraldina. 10 babies. but in later years my hamsters ALWAYS managed to be able to escape no matter WHAT i put them in so i kept them in the bathtub so the smell was pretty contained. i always loved the cedar chip nesting stuff they had though
