For those who think the invention is silly, do some research for about 3 minutes, and you'll discover that Ginger solves a statistical problem, as noted on the official web site:
"Half of all car trips taken by Americans are less than five miles long and transport only the driver. Because Segway HT gives people the strength to carry bags and parcels and the range to cover more ground, it could be used instead of a car for many of these trips, saving time and money."
Addressing an issue that occurs with a frequency of 50% in its domain is a significant achievement.
Of course, this is no different than when the notion of "everyone owning a computer" was considered to be ridiculous. The Segway HT will evolve, and the intended environments for it will also evolve, in order to accommodate practical needs and wants of potential customers.
I can't recall the exact figure, but I believe about 80,000 units have been pre-ordered by UPS, FedEx, and USPS.
Imagine the uses on college campuses, and in urban downtown settings.
Also, remember that this is not supposed to be some sort of personal hovercraft that folds into your pocket. It's supposed to replace short-distance transportation, WITHOUT polluting the atmosphere. That's something that has NEVER been done before.
So yeah; it is amazing.
Awesome comment...ignore any past response I had....
ugh, dude, you really didn't need to write that.
Who me?????????????
haha, you modified it to be nicer. Well, I hope that you actually read it then
Well said. I think we may see a lot more of these things than we expect, especially future versions of it. But, either way, I just want to ride one of these things!
However a car is nice and warm in the winter and you can have a good stereo system in it. True there is headphones but will it come with a huge air horn to beep at people with?!?
