Go to any cool concerts this summer? Any planned?
I'm going to the Format and Ted Leo in August, but nothing so far. What have been the best shows of your summer? Of your life?

Death Cab For Cutie - 06/10/08 Brooklyn, NY @ McCarren Park Pool
has anyone ever been to mcCarren Park pool? because i was thinking of going to a show there and i kinda think it's an outside venue but i don't know.
yeah i think it is outside
The Boredoms show was extremely awesome! Might be getting it's own Journal when I get the time to put it together.
So, me & Austin were seriously considering going to CA for Bamboozle Left. Cuz we found plane tix for $99/person. And we were getting all excited about it. Then we were like wait, but we'll need a hotel, and a rental car, and to eat out Brkfst, Lunch, Dinner. So $200 bucks, quickly turned into like $1200. So i think we'll just go to ours on the east coast. meaa :-( I wanna see goldfinger & alkaline trio SO bad!!!
You joining JP's and my bandwagon?
jumpin on it.
nice
We got a lot hoppin on. Saturday bambooz. Book it
Nice... Tailgate party anyone? haha
I'm gonna feel like it, being at Giants Stadium. I really miss when this was skate and surf. Much less crowded, much less commercial, much better music.
At least we still have a good bands playing this year.
TOTALLY! i miss surf & skate SO bad. (I always say it opposite, i don't know why)
that was always the absolute best show of the year. And i loved upstairs where all the bands had stands set up. and you got tons of free stickers and stuff.
snoop dogg is playing bamboozle!?!
or is this just an april fools...
have you ever heard the snoop dog "riders on the storm" remix? i gotta say, it's good. and i dont' really like snoop
Lauren and I went to see the Ataris acoustic show in Pompton Lakes. It took us maybe 20 minutes to get there, the place was large and empty, and we totally enjoyed ourselves. We were extremely close to the stage, and we actually backed off a little because I felt like we were in Kris's face.
After the show we took pictures, talked to him a little, and had fun in general. A good night for $16/ticket. We ended up leaving and doing a 14 hour day of service on Saturday to finish our time, but that's a whole other story ...
UM, WHY didn't you tell me?!? ugh, i'm so mad at you! roaaaaaar!
btw, the name of the band is the ataris. So you put the apostrophe in the wrong spot. it should be " Ataris' " Like Jesus'. You don't put Jesu's. Kay, thanks.
I'm just mad at you for not telling me about the show. haha
i dont know how you missed it, i've been talking about it on here forever since JP posted it, asking who else wanted to go
really?? ughh, missed it. i have this awesome pic of me & Kris Roe, he's so cute. ::gush:: haha

Dude, do you like Connect 4? Cuz I'm worried about your obsession to music. You need to mix it up.
You like Beano, I like music.
You mix up your diet... I'll mix my music.
Weak dude...
Ah yeh dude, I wasn't trying.
Why should I waste my time on a insult like yours. (If that's what was intended)
Weak provoking is gonna get a weak retaliation, just to keep you patronized enough.
I don't get it...Why is it necessary to keep bringing up how much I like music ...
Yessssss, I love Music, ok? Weeee get it. ha - ha. Move on with something that's actually contributing next time.
I think you are too obsessed with music is my point. But hey... it's all good.
Yeh, I do enjoy it a lot.. everyone has their hobbies and favourite things in life.. But it hasn't taken over my life. It appears that way on Redsweater, 'cuz it's pretty much the only Forum I frequent. But, you'd really be surprised how little I listen to music per day. Hey, I don't even have an mp3 player.
i'm listening to nada surf's cover of "all you need is love" right now. love it.
i heard they have a cover of 50 ways to leave your lover but i've never been able to find it. do you have it?
I have a cover of 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' by Athlete and 'With a Little Help from my Friends' by Razorlight on my Playlist.com playlist. Right now I have an 84 track compilation that I put together on Playlist... check my songs --- http://www.playlist.com/user/12734233/view

Coming soon... Photos from the concerts in England including, Cherry Ghost, Manic Street Preachers, The Pogues, The Coral, and The Verve. Watch this space.
YouTube is an amazing concept. Found someone's video of the concert.
Below is:
Billy Bragg and Kate Nash cover the Shangri-Las' "Give Him A Great Big Kiss" at Roseland Ballroom, NYC, 16 March 2008.
Billy Bragg, Kate Nash and Finn O'Loughlin. Singing Billy Bragg's "A New England" at Roseland Ballroom 16 March 2008.
Fionn O Lochlainn rather
Have a look.. William Elliot Whitmore, Billy Bragg/Kate Nash/Fionn, & The Pogues concert photos posted in 'Concerts.'
Oops meant to post that in musings.
Now I'm hoping this works... it's my first time using Flickr for photos, so I'm taking a risk... but this took a good amount of time to post and describe with the blurbs below, so hopefully it was worthwhile...
I gotta start really doing this after concerts I go to.. be disciplined enough to put the photos on the web and post them for you. (But excuse the bad quality.. it's taken with my phone is overall awesome minus it's 1 megapixel camera or whatever it is)
Here's The Pogues in NYC at Roseland Ballroom on Sunday.
First opener was an incredibly awesome foot stomping banjo plucking americana folk singer from Iowa named William Elliot Whitmore. Next, came the soapboxesque punkish folk or folkish punk strong-veined fed up with the world but keeps hope that it could be better political basher with an electric guitar... much like if The Clash or The Jam were still around as a solo act, Billy Bragg. Then, after doing his thing, with him sporting a shiny new cheap Texas shirt that he scored when he was down there for SXSW festival... explaining that he met this lovely girl he told that he was heading up to New York, and she came along being interested in going to the show in New York... out comes that girl... who happens to be Kate Nash. After her singing some duos with Billy.. she takes out a Feadóg (the Irish Penny whistle) and proceeds to play it! Hidden talent for sure! And Billy brought on this dude Fionn to accompany on acoustic guitar and so a psuedo Céilidh was born! That's all before The Pogues even coming on.
Then Wow! I mean Wow! The Pogues come on, put on a bigger moshing sweatier show than I attended in December back in London, which I mistakenly gambled was there most intense show I've been to yet. Or of the most intense of all concerts. But, no... last night was mosh pit rebirth.. in a friendly (but smelly sweaty way). hhaha. Dude sooooo many peoples' sweat got launched around on me. Got 16 dollar whiskey crushed out my cup.. all's good tho.. I enjoyed most of it before that, and even had some left after it was launched out... plus.. what's another 16 dollars on a new one.
So, the people were so joyful... making dancing circles towards the end of the concert... and I swooped into the middle as a show off and carelessly spun around while they rotated clockwise hand in hand... then opened the interlocked hands for me to be part of the clock. And everybody like with arms around each other... strangers.. but strangers who all love The Pogues.
First picture show's William Elliot Whitmore

Here's Billy Bragg & Surprise guest, Kate Nash

Billy Bragg, Kate Nash playing the Feadog, & Mister Fionn on acoustic guitar

And of course it ended with 'Fairytale of New York' but no fake snow this time :(

After my miserable year so far - I can not wait for my next 3 shows
The 3rd of these will be Boredoms & I couldn't help but look at the videos of them on YouTube lately.. I post the most appealing ones to me so far
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N8Yxilkoy0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LokKBefy1ws
(couldn't embed those - it was disabled - so use the URL - it's soooooo - well, just watch it... this concert will be so much FUN!!!!!!!!!!!)
lol i can't wait till brotherman watches these
hahaha true
are you a fan of Melt Banana?
Never heard of them. I should check it out?
they're also japanese. they're also noise rock or japanoise or whatever. they sound a lot more like grind than these guys tho, so you might not like them.
i personally can't stand them.
actually.. of what videos I've posted, not all the sides of Boredoms is shown... their song styles are varied (maybe not too much but a bit)... so, yeh, Boredoms do have more 'noise' side to them in certain songs - I didn't post any of those - thought these would show a little more about them - just posted those latter 2 for what on Earth!? effect... other times tho they could be tribal drum and bass or ambient or experimental or noise or kinda electro-psyche as in the first one. ..
i'll still hafta hear that band you mentioned and see what I think
Yeh, there's some similarity. I guess it's stuff that might be good in certain moods - that's what the case is for Boredoms as well, I guess you could say. Talented, but drive you insane, if I'm honest. More than worth seeing in Concert tho ...Boredoms, that is.
I'm sorry I didn't know about what they did last year in Brooklyn.
on 7/7/07
they got 77 drummers together
playing in sync
outdoors in Brooklyn
Had to be extremely sweet
Once in a lifetime event
I knew nothing about it!
One of the members of Boredoms, also is a member of a band called Grind Orchestra (I think it's called). Just found that out last night & haven't listened to them yet, but I'll hafta check them out as well.
saw them live with Tomahawk and Isis. they were terrible. shrieky, speed punk.
Haha... I'll look at them later.
I'll challenge you to watch them all and in completeness - from start to finish. We'll see if you last the, let's face it.. torture.
Wow.... What inhalant were you using when listening to this ungodly mess... My kids could beat chop sticks on shoe boxes repeatedly while screaming the Barney theme song and make a better sound....
I was ready for this comment. Hey, if you say so - but I'm serious about my music, all joking aside, (afterall, I'm a musician myself & I say that without feeling guilty) which I'm sure everyone already knows - I'd buy an album by Boredoms (I truly see the creativeness and talent of them - altho some of their stuff I like better than others... & I don't do it for shock factor, as several probably view my tastes and me as person as pretentious) , whereas I wouldn't buy an album of an interpretation of the Barney theme song (I can't see where the creativeness and talent in that would be - nevermind hating the Barney theme song). Something like chopsticks to a Barney songalong would hardly expand my mind, or help me feel better or expound present mood... it would irritate me, just as Boredoms apparently (no surprises) irritate you.
To get serious, in these past several weeks, I've been in two car accidents, my band of more than 4 years broke up, and my last grandparent died. I've been having a rough (un)pinic. I go to music to keep me going, especially with less and less tangible friends month by month.
I'm amazed by Boredoms and the power of what it takes to orchestrate what they do. The concert is without doubt gonna be worth going to, and will make me feeeeeeeeel gooooood. ...I'm hoping. I'm proud I have the capacity to enjoy music - no inhalant needed. When it comes to music, I get easily offended. I'm aware of this and sorry. I like what I like tho. Calling it ungodly will hurt my feelings, but not change my tastes.
Ian pushed me to say something. He should have been quiet and I wouldn't have even looked at the links. Haha... Obviously my comment was over exaggerated for comedic purposes.
Sorry to hear about all the stuff you are going through.
Bruv, I'm sorry as well. I've had a lot bottled up. You didn't have any idea what's going on so it's ok. I shouldn't have even probably mentioned it for sympathy. Hey, we all experience tough times. I venture to say you have.. without even really knowing you. You were pushed a bit to say something in response to the music since your name was mentioned.. that's not Ian's fault.. I take responsibility. I already expected nonacceptance, but I should've been more able to handle the non accepting comment, if I was gonna go ahead and exploit that band and those videos - I did afterall not really like the latter 2 songs myself anyway - and was comedic in a way on my part and maybe on the borderline of entrapment.. It's actually more of their stuff like the first song that I like - without the wackiness. The latter two are just for fun and lightheartedness. I have to learn to let things be said and not let it bother me. We all have the same right of freedom. Tones are hard to bring out in writing so I guess I took it harsher than you meant for it be. If you said the same comment to me face to face, maybe it would have just been let go and dismissed straight away. Anyway, thanks for the apology.
Face to face you would have seen the sarcasm. haha...
aw man, im so sorry hun to hear about your accidents and grand parent passing and the band. my heart goes out to you nad your're def in my prayers.
OH I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!!!! I JUST BOUGHT A TICKET TO A BOREDOMS SHOW!!!!!!! An extremely insane avant-noise Japanese band with terribly energetic show antics, swinging from the rafters, what have you. Never seen them before, but I know what to expect! Like cavemen getting their hands on musical equipment for the first time. This is a Japanese - Sonic Youth on betadrugs. hahaha Who wants to come with me!!?? Sunday, March 30, Terminal 5 NEW YORK, NEW YORK. www.ticketmaster.com $25 dollars in advance

Nightmare Of You is playing at Blend (in Ridgewood) in a few weeks ... anyone interested? Tickets are $13.
yeah mannnnnn...whats the date on this?
i think March 13 or 14
Ex-Movielife guitarist Brandon Reilly fronts Nightmare of You. While I've never listened to Nightmare of You, The Movielife was the only pop/punk that I really, really liked. Guess I'll have to check 'em out.
yes. that is true. although i listed to the movielife and could never really get into it. i don't know why.
Feb 22 - Dalek in Philly
Feb 27 - Dead Meadow
March 19 - Gutter Twins
March 24 - Presidents of the United States of America
April 11 - Saul Williams as Niggy Tardust
ended up seeing Dalek last night at Maxwell's instead. with Russian Circles and Young Widows. tremendous show. all three acts were headliner quality. just an amazing show. powerful groovy atmosphere. Russian Cirlces sounds like Explosions in the Sky but HARDER. Young Widows were like a stoner rock version of Nirvana with an angry edge. DALEK blew me away. intelligent ambient experimental noisy wall-of-sound style hip hop. unreal. these three bands come with my highest recommendation.
I'm going to see:

You crack me up... You make some of these groups you go see seem like they are lengendary... Rush has been around for 34 years. That puts them at a level of some of the greats. And yet peeps on here treat them like they are some second rate Friday night bar band. Unbelievable...
haha. I didn't intend to start one of these debates again. They're tiring and pointless. (Just for the record, as for the next 2 concerts I'm seeing... Super Furry Animals has had Paul McCartney from a little band called The Beatles, play on their album as well as John Cale from The Velvet Underground... Them endorsing it, says a little something about The Furries' greatness and they're not brand new... even tho that has nothing to do with talent or nontalent... but they been around since 1993... and been on Epic Records of Sony BMG... they're not what you call "bar band"... NME readers named them Best New Band in January 1999... and frankly they'll be a historic band when they call it a day... As for The Pogues... they're like the most famous Irish traditional folk punkish group and started in 1982 and have been a #94 on the US Hot 100 Chart, a #2 on the UK Singles Chart, and a #1 on the Irish Singles Chart)
I don't care how long Rush has played... just 'cause your an old band doesn't make you any better
Yeh boy
Don't ever call my music non-worthy of legend
Blaaaaa
Anyway, I was really posting those dates to be helpful to you
Not to mock you
(Sooo... yes, you're welcome)
I looked at what you wrote as indirectly making fun that Rush has a concert tour.
Then you indirectly looked at it wrong. I really was just posting Rush dates, since they were emailed to me, & figured you might wish to go see them.... I'm on several concert announcement mailing lists... so if I think anyone likes a particular group and I hear they're gonna be playing I announce it. I wasn't being sarcastic. I've never once said they weren't talented or weren't legend. If I was into Rush's style... I'd be here defending them, right alongside you. I think they're good at what they do.
if you two met in real life you'd hate each others guts. i'd love it.
nah way.. don't say something like that. Actually I'd love to meet bruv.
I think I kind of met you a couple of years ago. Did you come to the last Ezabel picnic? I was the guy getting beat up by a 7 year old with a plastic light sabre.
ooh, sabre! how classy!
yeh? interesting. know what year & location? i think i slighty remember that scene in the corner of my eye... i don't think we met like with a face to face handshake. i didn't really meet anyone new there i think.
It was at Village Green in Budd Lake, NJ.
Yehp. I remember. I really only chatted with 3 people, so I didn't make the connection before. I think that kid was Special K's right?
dude....rush should play at the village green. with puff daddy. bangin concert!
I want to see Rush once more before they die of old age.
Here's finally one for brotherman:

My Manic Street Preachers tics didn't come yet! :(
Well, I was afraid these wouldn't arrive before my flight since they still hadn't be sent for some reason (I'm thinking to prevent scalping on eBay which is stupid tho, 'cause I already got my ticket to The Verve awhile ago)... so I'm picking them up at the venue on the day of the concert.
Came today!!!

Me & Brittany are going!
So me, Britt and Tina went last night, and it was just Chris Carabba by himself, which i really prefer. It was so awesome. He played like a 1.5 hour set. His opening band was Augustana. They rocked too. I only knew one of their songs, (Boston) but they were really good. I'm definatly going to pick up their CD.
Highlight of Chris' set, was when he did a Weezer cover..."El Scorcho" and Augustana came out and sang with him too. Pretty cool.
i don't know. that guy is totally lame now. he acts like he's Scott Stapp who acts like he's Jesus. I don't really get any of this.
well, the only thing i noticed different about him was that in the past he never EVER cursed, and he did a few times this show. but i think it may have been because as ukranium mentioned there were some people in the crowd saying his new stuff sucks. So he kept calling them MF-ers. So lame, his old stuff IS way better. But still, it was gay.
btw, i really like scott stapp, i saw them like 5 years ago, and thought they were quite good.
It was a great concert till some drunk heckler in the audience decided to get chris carrabba in a cranky mood. My going to this concert was a result of going all the way to boston 2 weeks ago to see the decemberists and when we got there TADAA cancelled because the lead singer was "stressed" Oh well we still had a good time
Oh, nice you got to see The Decemberists? Very very cool, dude.
Who is TADAA?
No we there and tadaaa!!!, like surprise!!! it was cancelled
wait a minute...who are you?
i think that it wouldnt take much to get poor little chris cranky.

Electric Factory, Philly
yeah, my wife is going in NJ ... there's a girl we work with that's obsessed with them.
I personally don't like their first album much, and like a few songs on the 2nd. I keep meaning to listen to the 3rd one sometime.
i really like them... they get a little preachy sounding, but they're unique
I think they are really good too. I saw them this past May at the Bowery Ballroom and they were awesome...
that sounds sweet

I wish I could go to his "Question Jar" shows but they're all sold out I think except the Vancouver, Seattle, and Boulder, shows. Hopefully, I can make Teaneck.
Another Concert I've added just now - this'll make 3 concerts in a 2 week time frame. The Pogues! I can't wait til December! Bound to be one of the huge highlights of my entire lifespan... The Manics, The Pogues, & The Verve in the same 2 week timeframe! I'm an aging hipster. Gotta see these bands while they're still playing concerts.

alex and i want to get my parents tickets to something for their anniversary but i don't know what to get them. I'm thinking definitely something in nyc so they can go out to eat and stuff. i would also like a venue that's smaller, not like msg or anything. i was thinking a place like b.b. king's where you can eat while you listen to the bands if you want.
b.b. king is actually playing there next month but tickets are $125 so i don't think that's gonna work. bob dylan is done touring this year. neil young is only playing concert hall shows. any ideas guys? I'm thinking folk rock or something along those lines.
aww, how sweet. i don't have any ideas, but it's sweet.
Actually, my parents just went to see "The Drowsey Chaperone" on broadway. They loved it. It won a bunch of Tonys too.
i don't know if they like him but john mellencamp is playing december 14 and 15th in atlantic city. tickets go on sale tomorrow.
also i thought of you because Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter are playing Friday, Nov 30 at the Fillmore in philly.
bb king came to my college a couple years ago. i already had plans that night.
definitely shoulda gone though.
is there some cool lil jazz place where they can do dinner and jazz? or cool lounge?
we actually got them tickets to see David Bromberg, a guitarist my dad has liked for a long time and hasn't seen in a long time, they're going tonight
I haven't been to a concert in 5 yrs people! Someone take me! LOL!
dude, all of the bands you like quit touring in the 80s! come on!
Shaddup!
I was so tempted to say something like that.
Ok, but you guys listen to crap that the common person has never heard of, so what's your point?
well theyre totally touring and we can totally get tickets without em sellin out
booyah
LOL!!
You can see Manic Street Preachers with me but bear in mind it's in Brixton, London. Better get your plane ticket fast tho, before they increase to like $1000 if they haven't already.
I normally hate mid-week shows. This is a special treat for me though.

Tremendous music. http://www.myspace.com/soulsavers
North Star Bar is an awesome venue. I saw Honeychurch & Mojave 3 there.
BIGGEST MUSIC THREAD EVVVERRRRRRRRR!!
Doododo sooo happy. Bad Religion, two nights in a row next weekend!
As promised a long time ago.. here's a shot from the Damien Rice concert a month ago @ WaMu Theatre/MSG NYC. Clearly one of the best shows I've ever been to. Sadly, many people only know him for his charted pop singer/songwriter singles - which I love - but he's much more than that. I encourage you to give him a chance. Listen to the stuff you haven't heard. There's many songs with a really big sound. Truly Ambient Encompassing.

The Verve is on sale tomorrow at 10am GMT / 5am EST. Still undecided if I'll go, but want to so bad. http://www.myspace.com/thevervetv for newly added show dates and links to ticket sales. They'll also be playing Manchester. BA 2 person round trip travel with 3 day stay in a 3 star and a Theatre show via EWR for $575 per person & JKF $569 pp for booking up until November 22, 2007 & departure up until December 27, 2007 and stay up until December 31, 2007. Not a bad deal.
Oops, that's 10am BST not GMT
