Myspace

mandie by mandie · Aug 21, 2006 · 623 views · · · Misc.

Ok so what does everyone think about myspace? I personally think its a way to waste time and laugh at how retarded some people can be. But there's been a huge fuss about it where I live. So, I was doing a search by my zip code one day because I was so bored. And you wouldn't believe the number of witnesses that I found that had horrible pages. There were 3 that I can think of specifically that had two different pages, One of them, all the friends were witnesses, the second page they had, was bad. I mean, swear words all over the place, like hundreds of friends who were definately bad. Friends that I had who I thought were good association, have really offensive pages( and its close to impossible to offend me, so that's bad). Like one girl's page had pictures of herself in particular poses that was very inappropriate, if you know what I mean. So a month or so ago, one of our elders from stage told us, not to have a myspace page and blah blah. So what it comes down to, is myspace really the devil? I think that myspace in itself isn't bad, its just how each individual person uses it. Does anyone else have problems with it where they live, or is it just people in Ohio have nothing else better to do with their time? HaHa.

They haven't mentioned much about MySpace in my area-probably because a lot of people don't have internet let alone computers.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

switch that around, lol

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

yeah we havent had talks or anything on it here...maybe we have more drama than computers...LOL

the only reason i haven't deleted my myspace is because i have almost 2 years worth of blogs on there that i don't want to lose

i have about 30 myspace friends, that's it, and they are all people i know in real life, and are all witnesses

i am not a 12 year old girl with 145537 'friends' looking to meet boys and posting gross pictures of myself, and i am not talking to worldly people, and i'm not browsing to find anyone, soooooooooo i don't think i'm doing anything wrong, for me it is a place to stay connected with friends who live far away, read their blogs to see what's going on in their lives, my profile is private and it is not able to be browsed by strangers or weird perverts

having said that, being associated with myspace sort of has a bad connotation now because it is being talked about in such a negative light, and I don't really want to be associated with something negative, so it stinks, it's kind of a conflict because I like it for what i use it for, and i want to keep all my blogs especially because they are mostly photo blogs and i really don't want to lose them

it just stinks when the 10% ruins things for the other 90% and that is what seems to be happening with myspace, the double-lifers are ruining it for the rest of us hehehe

Kam has very good points. Basically, its like acts 6:12 "All things are lawful for me; but not all things are advantageous." Also the principle found at 1 Cor. 8:4-13 applies here. the point there is basically, don't stumble your brothers.

So while myspace might not, in itself, be wrong. It'd be better to set a good example, and avoid the site all together.

Am I the only one who thinks myspace is incredibly lame? It's essentially an online diary, and unless you're a 12-year-old girl, that's lame.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

well there's 103 MILLION people on Myspace, so yeah, i guess you are the only one that thinks it's lame

haha

j/k i think it's lame

it was cool at first now it's this huge.. huge.. empire of.. grossnes.. and lameness...

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

its basically Instant Messenger, with a profile, pictures, and a blog

so yeah it's all about what you use it for

people don't use AIM for good things either but .. most people still use AIM

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Maybe it's just the ultimate manifestation of the fact that our culture promulgates the necessity of putting yourself above others and the need for constant attention placing you on top of some invisible pantheon...

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

anyone who's on the internet posting any opinion on any subject is seeking attention in some way

maybe just not in the desperate over-the-top way of placing importance on the number of clicks your profile gets per month

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Yes, and it's the over the top that makes it lame. I mean, this site is nice because I can talk to people I used to be able to see a couple times a week before I moved, but when I saw them every day, I was posting less-frequently. Communication is good, the desire for attention is lame.

i used to have a pretty active page, but i deleted it. now, i have a page, with no friends or anything, just so i can view a couple pals profiles and pics.

i DO kinda see what the whole commotion is about from an organizational standpoint, but i don't have a problem with it personally. if folks are using it while excercising spirit of a sound mind, that's cool and the gang. BUTTT i can see how inexperienced, two-faced witness kids, who don't know themselves, would go on there and act really worldly and bring reproach on Jehovah's name. these miscreants sorely need adjustment . . . or to make a choice.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yes would you like to join me in punching them? one by one. Line em up. Punch. Punch. I punch.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

yeah, totally. no one is perfect and we ALL say and do stupid things, but C'MONNNN! i've seen stuff like this:

i had a talk 2night, i did a really good job yo, and then i went to the bar and got wasted with some pals, then went to a co-workers party at 2am, i got pics!

i mean C'MONNNNNNN!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!?

that's just stupid

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

i kid you not: one of the pics was of the guy in a suit, straight from the meeting, partaking of a beer bong.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

aw man, you found my page!!! i thought i deleted the pics. LOL JUST KIDDING

80% of my friends on myspace are bands. i keep track of their shows and new tracks there instead of visiting each of their websites. thus i've cut my internet time down.

mandie mandieOG 2001 ·

Oh and i completely forgot to mention the amount of witnesses that have disfellowshipped people in their friends...how is that any different then associating with them?

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

I agree 100% on that... I love the ones who have the DFed people on their site and if you look at those people's pages all you see is witness bashing... what are they thinking, if you have them on as a friend, that means you approve of what they are doing and associate with them in that way and if thats the case you are ignoreing Jehovah's commands...

Like i said, i don't think that myspace itself is a bad thing. its all how you use it. so just some advice for everyone that has a page, i had one and it was completely innocent(stef and patty, you can back me up on that) and someone saw it and was offended because i had a picture on there that showed about a 1/2 inch of my stomach...i felt horrible that i stumbled someone, so i took everything off and barely even use it anymore..but remember, anything you put on there, unless its set to private, ANYONE can see...so be careful what you say and do on there...

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

half an inch of your stomach!!! YOU FLOOZY!!!

lolol

mandie mandieOG 2001 ·

yeah, i personally, thought it was RIDICULOUS...but what are you going to do right??? It was heavily exzaggerated, but oh well...
