beer trivia

ok so I go to a concert, and get a beer. the guy puts one of those tops on the beer-cup that you can put a straw through. I look to my left and there are straws. I think to myself, "Self, have you ever drank beer through a straw before?", "No", I replied (to myself).

so I grab a straw as inconspicuously as I can and quickly put it into my pocket so as not to draw attention to myself. I return to my seat sit down next to my friends, and proceed to take said straw out and put it in my cup through the straw-hole.

"haha, you're gonna drink beer through a straw?", says one. "Yep, I've never done it before, but they had straws there so I thought what the hey."

then she goes, "OK, you're gonna think I'm a nerd but..." and she goes on to explain how straws were actually invented for the sole purpose of drinking beer. It seems that old beer had problems with consistency so in order to get the rich flavor that was sitting at the bottom of the cup, they need straws, since sipping wasn't working or something.

I love geeks. a beer geek is just mind-blowing.
