Best and Worst Video Game Systems
Ever since the Atari Video Computer System (Later known as the Atari 2600) was
introduced wayyyyy back in 1977, we the people have played video games at home. Many
systems have come and gone, from the good (The Atari 2600, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega
Genesis [or Mega-Drive for the Brits]), the bad (Magnavox Odyssey 2, 3DO, Turbo-Grafix 16)
and the ugly (The Atari 7800, Jaguar, Game.com).
What system or systems hold a special place in your heart? What special memories? Read more to see mine.
The GOOD:
The Atari 2600: The first system I ever played back in 1980 (When most of you
were in diapers) at a friend's house. Combat, Adventure, Air-Sea Battle.. all
awesome. THEN arcade conversions made the 2600 THE system to own, even over more the
powerful Intellivision and Coleco Vision. I still have one with around 250
games.
The Super Nintendo: I have to pick this over the NES since the graphics and
sounds are better, the games are bigger, but it screams "old-school"
nonetheless. I remember when I first got mine in '93. While playing Super
Mario World I would think "Boy, video games won't get better than this."
In a way I was right... now everything is 3D. There were a lot of dud-games,
but games like Mario, Zelda, Super Double Dragon, Contra 3, Gradius 3 and more are
AWESOME!!! Why do you think many of those SNES games are being ported to the Game
Boy Advance???
Sega Dreamcast: Very hardcore, very Japansese. I love my Dreamcast to
pieces. Too bad Sega pulled the plug on it, but it never would have survived against
the GameCube, XBOX and PS2. Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Gradia 2 are my favorite titles,
plus the lot of overhead shooters and lest we forget that this is THE system that allowed
Capcom and SNK to finally bring their fighting characters together...
Nintendo GameCube: What can I say? Awesome system and the game
library is getting better and better.... Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine and
Zelda are on the horizon... Super Smash Bros Melee was a launch title and Nintendo is
coming back after the lackluster N64...
The NOT-SO-GOOD:
Nintendo 64: Yeah, some good games like Starfox 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Jet
Force Gemini, Goldeneye and Donkey Kong 64...but it didn't FEEL like a Nintendo system...
really missed the boat.
Atari Jaguar: Okay, I liked some of the games on it... Rayman was great, NBA Jam
TE was arcade perfect, Alien VS Preditor was scary and Tempest 2000 was perfection...
but poor marketing and support really killed the world's first 64 bit game system.
Enough from me... let's hear YOUR opinions!!!

Are you kidding me? I probably playey Nintendo 64 more than any other system. Perfect Dark was probaby the best shooting game ever. NBA Showtime was an awesome game too
Thing is, I have had about 14 different systems all together... Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Jaguar, Intellivision, Coleco Vision, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Genesis, Saturn (forgot about that one... one of the bad), Dreamcast, Playstation PLUS Game Boy, GB Color, GB Advance, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Atari Lynx... so I base my opinion on all that... N64 had some good games, but ugh... it seems like an "in-between" system to me...
Hmmmmm....... Thats alot of games systems you must like your video games
you scare me, stay away!
I don't have them all now... just over the years I've had them at one time or another.. I currently have the Dreamcast, SNES and Gamecube hooked up, and the 2600 is stored away. Also have the GB Advance and NEO GEO Pocket Color...
wow dave, that is insane! my parents never let us have video games, although my cousin gave me his sega genesis when i was like 16. we had BATTLETOADS vs. DOUBLE DRAGON! good game. oh and BERENSTEIN BEARS! niiiiice! yeah, we were never allowed to play it.
Part of it too was that I was selling video game stuff as a side business for awhile and I would have to "test" the merchandise, if you know what I mean!! ;-)
haha... yeah as a kid i was so jealous of kids who's parents would always buy them video games
yea i'm with you on that. my parents rarely bought me a game. once in a blue decade.
i just played computer games, and somehow i always got them for free from magical computer land
And i just remeberred NFL Blitz
I can't handle the 3D world. I prefer SNES over anything. I wish I had never traded mine for a N64.
i dunno... i got an atari from kevin when i was like 7.. my sister broke it.. i was stunted emotionally from that.
From then on he continued to act like he was 7
my old nintendo was the best...many memories of me and Heather playing that!
i'll never forget the great times i had playing excite bike and rc pro am on nintedo at my friends house. so much fun. also, playing arcade games at the arcade at Ocean View Campground... hang on, rastan, pac man, super mario brothers, all those
the best video game (even though it really isn't) is dance, dance, revolution.
Atari... I remember that umm dreamcast umm and stuff.....
Is it just me or are you obsessed with games......i knew you were a player.........lol....but i like Atari, and the game with the little man going through the jungle.
That would be Pitfall... yeah, you're right.. I am a player... a player of video games! HAH!!!!
I can care less about video games. to me they are just a 30 minue to hour diversion from something. i play for a little bit. i recently just bought a playstation 1 .. which is old.. and i rarely even play that.
i used to play video games but it was mostly nfl quarterback club and all star baseball .. soo good.
when i was a kid i had a sega genesis but my favorite thing in the world to play with was a rock on a string that i would repeatedly swing back and forth for hours and hours. Oh what wonderful childhood memories...
rock on a string that he would swing... be nice David...
what r u gettin @?
Nintendo (the original) is still special to me! Pac Man, Contra, Mike Tyson Punch Out, Track (with the foot pads... so hott!!) and this game where you had to build your castle and place cannons and you and the 2nd player would fire at each other trying to ruin the other persons castle! those were some fun times.
But then Sega came along with Sonic! One of the best games of all time, even if it was very mainstream.
And then the champion Playstation! With Crash Bandicot (Awesome Awesome game) also Madden '99. With Franchise mode where you are the GM and have almost total control, I wasted hours on that thing.
But now I havent played Playstation more then once in 6 month span in probably 2 years!!! I just dont have time and the time I do have I dont spend on Video games... oh well
I almost forgot my favorite game of all time isnt even on any of the systems I mentioned!
Mario Kart!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it
It seems I have less time to play now than I did when I was married!!!
thats TERRIBLE.... shows i have no hope.. ugg
xbox rox
Atari 2600 in 1980? Try 1978... Bobby Evans...Rahway's Roosevelt Elementary School. I used to go over his house after school, and my mom would be all worried. This kid had every single Atari game, and he was actually bored with the system. I was SOOOO jealous. I played Space Invaders for hours. I also played Tank with Punk Princess' older brothers. I loved the planes...
Finally, in 1980, my parents broke down and bought one (for $198 or something ridiculous like that). We had PacMan, Pitfall, and Pinball. I was so hooked. That's when Atari started doing poorly and you could pick up their games for $10-$15 bucks instead of $29. (I can't understand you X-Box nuts out there paying $49 for video games...sheesh!)
I had friends who owned colleco-vision. One actually had the colleco Adam computer/video game. We used it for a Science Fair project in 1983.
Other than my PC, my only other video game system was my Commodore 64. I used to belong to some Bulletin Boards (that's pre-Internet, for you youngin's out there), and I got all kinds of hacked...ehem, I mean, free software...ehem, I mean, evaluation copies of software to play with and write reviews for. I still have all the floppies, although I don't know if they still work after all these years. (1984 to 2002???)
Does anyone remember the PIX game they would play on channel 11? Some teenager would get to say 'PIX' when they wanted a football to be thrown, or a missle to be shot, or something... I could never get through and I was so frustrated with the morons who had no sense of timing for their 'PIX' 'PIX' 'PIX'!!!
Yeah I remember that... thet tried to make it out like the computer they used was voice activated, but the kid would say "Pix" (for WPIX)then whoever was controlling the computer in the studio would press the button... those were the days.
you oldies... BUT GOODIES.. should get a room
Let's play skeet shoot... every time you say PIX you shoot at the little Thai-pigeons... Go!!! PIX PIX PIX PIX PIX PIX PIX PIX PIX PIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIX
