Jer-z Kidz

punkprincess by punkprincess · Sep 9, 2002 · Geek · 501 views

Usually i would put something like this in a journal entry, but honestly, almost all of us on eZabel are from Jersey!!!!! and really-- most of these are SOOO true!!!

Its hilarious!

You know you're from Jersey if:

- You don't think of citrus when people mention "The Oranges".

- You know that it's called Great Adventure, not Six Flags.

- A good, quick breakfast is a hard roll with butter.

- You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven.

- You've eaten at a Diner at 3 a.m.

- You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.

- At last three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen

and you know the town Jon Bon Jovi is from.

- You know what a "jug handle" is.

- You know that WaWa is a convenience store.

- You know that the state isn't all farmland.

- You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey - there's "The Shore".

And you don't go "to the shore" - you go "down the Shore". And when

you are there, you're not "at the shore" - you are "down the Shore".

- You know that "Piney" isn't referring to a tree.

- Even your school cafeteria made good Italian subs. And it's a

Sub, not a submarine sandwich or worse yet, a hoagy, a hero, or a grinder.

HONESTLY! i hate when people call them hoagys!!!

- You remember the song from the Palisades Park commercials.

- You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.

- You know that this is the only "New..." state that doesn't

require "New" to identify it (like, try...Mexico, ...York, ...Hampshire - doesn't

work, does it?)

- You only go to New York City for day trips, and you call it "The

City".

- You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast food

chain AND a fast food sandwich.

- You consider putting mayo on a corned beef sandwich a sacrilege.

- You don't think "What exit" is very funny.

- You know that the first "strip shopping center" in the country

was on Route 22.

- You know that people from 609 area code are "a little different". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

- You know that no respectable New Jerseyan goes to Princeton -

that's for out-of-staters.

- The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or local

bar.

- You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls.

- You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers.

- Every year, you had a least one kid in your class named Tony.

- You know the location of every clip shown in the Sopranos opening credits.

- You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of the mall.

- You know that people from North Jersey go to Seaside Heights, and people

from Central Jersey go to Belmar or LBI and people from South Jersey go

to Wildwood. It can be no other way. hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

- You were not raised in New Jersey. You were raised in either

North Jersey,Central Jersey or South Jersey. this is so stinkin true! when people ask me where im from, i tell em jersey, then have to say "central jersey"... its just a thing!

- You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of the

state.

- You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's, Channel, Bamburger's,Woolworths, Child World. H&L Greens and Orbach's.

- You've had a Boardwalk cheese steak and vinegar fries.

- You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February.

And finally...

- You've NEVER, NEVER pumped your own gas

This is GREAT! And just about every single one of them is true!

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002

I have seen this circulated around on e-mail a couple of years ago... thanks for posting it. Of course, since I'm "the old coot" on eZabel, I probably DO remember more on the list than most of you others do.. we used to shop at Two Guys all the time, but I don't think we have any WaWas here in Northwestern Jersey... I see them more down the shore! OH, BTW, my maternal grandmothe rused to work at the "Charles of the Ritz" purfume counter at the Bamberger's that used to be on the Green in Morristown!

jay79 jay79OG 2001

you're older than we all thought just for saying "old coot"

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

Wow I think I used to work at every one of those 4 malls...

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

oh man, a year and a half ago i got lost on the way home from VT and i didn't know how to pump my own gas. it was so frustrating

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

malibu malibuOG 2001

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002

Last night on my way to work, I drove past a deli near us (when you make the left by the police station) and there was a sign outside that said "Coffee and buttered roll $1.00"... very Jersey!!!

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

i dont know if you were talking about me.... BUT I DOOOOO KNOW WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT!!! Sunny Side Deli has the BEST buttered rolls!!!!! sooo good with coffeeeeee yum!

G
goldmineOG 2002

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002

how about belly busters??? i like the ones at the deli on woodbridge ave/edison (can't think of the name right now)

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002

How about them...? That might be an Edison thing!!! I never saw them here in northern Jersy

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

haha those are only at Super Duper Deli... oh man its so much meat! like 5 lbs of canadian bacon! blegh!

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

who cares where it is. 5 lbs of meat. i'm in love. my dream is to one day eat a whole cow . cooked of course. but like have parts of it throughout the day... prime rib for breakfast, filet mignon for dinner, t-bone for lunch.. and then all sorts of other meat during snack times. but none of the weird stuff like cow toungue and poop.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

you cared. you said "where is this" ya poop.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001

ew, that is one of the most disgusting things i've ever heard you say. i'm gonna throw up. (well besides what u said the other night....yea...nevermind) lol

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002

haha you have to admit what i said the other night, though gross, was funny. and next time you're sitting around.. you're gonna say it toooooo

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

is jersey the only place for jug handles??

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002

I want to say no, but I'm thinking that I can't remember them being in any other state I've been in...

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

Actually it is the only state with jughandles.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

whats a "jughandle"?????????

iwz iwz

From http://www.gardenstate50-50.org/pages/Driving_Tips.htm

Quite

often, in New Jersey, in order to make a left turn, you must make three right

turns, or a single sweeping right turn.  This phenomenon is called the

"jughandle."  It enables you to speculate as to which lane you need to be

in for an upcoming left turn.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

(sorry posted this 3 times)

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

thank you. very interesting. no, no jug handle herethat i know of... only in dyslexic jersy

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooopppppppppppppppppps

malibu malibuOG 2001

see jersey kids are better. we have special road names.

magnum magnumOG 2001

I HATE THOSE!!!! ARGH SO MUCH DO I HATE THEM! JUST FOR THAT JERSEY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Actually, New Jersey is very cool. I know there seems to be a lack of things to do usually, but if you lived in like..Utah or something..there would be an even bigger lack of things to do. We got some of the coolest beaches on the East Coast within a few hours drive, it snows here, it gets hot, we live within an hour or a bit more of NYC, we got Penn right next to us!! It's not so bad.

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002

Yeah, if ou think of it, NJ is a very varied state... farms, orchards, ranches and lakes in the northwest, cities in the east, beaches and oceans further south, rural, urban and suburbs, the BEST pizza anywhere (forget Chicago and NYC), bagels, Jersey tomatoes and corn, parks, lots of shopping and entertainment, too! Just the high cost of living and car insurance stinks...

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002

Oh, yeah... NJ is also the home of punk princess! That ALONE is worth the price of admission! But it's also the home (as a bonus) to malibu, thatdarngirl, flomojomo (ARGH!), rae rae, funky fresh, rock supastar, katiedid, iwz, and so many others, including me!!!

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 delliott101

hahahahaha thanks Dave! NJ rox!!! :-D

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002 punkprincess

Hey, anytime kiddo!

tesoro tesoroOG 2001

yea, long island is way better...we have all that stuff...but just alot closer... we're 45 mins from teh city...15 mins from the best beachs...out east its totally rural..with vineyards and stuff...its awesome... and the bagels and pizza? come on...dont mess with NY. haha but, weird enough...i think once i'm married i wanna move. so bascially i just totally contradicted myself. lol

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002 tesoro

Long Island sucks because you have to go everywhere on the LIE, which is in a constant state of construction. Very gay. At least in NJ we have many ways to get out of NJ, whether to the city or anywhere else.

magnum magnumOG 2001 skaorsk8

obviously u cant navigate long island too good if thats all you use, cause im never on it. And for the record jersey turnpike sucks down south also. And tolls whats up with those? Dont see them on any roads on li!

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 magnum

woohoo! yea you tell him man! seeeeeee DAN! ur WRONG!!!!! lol yea whats up with NJ and every mile another 35cent toll! and everytime you get off an exit 25cents! its sucha stinkin hassle! ugh! stupid nj roads. lol

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002 tesoro

Yeah, I hate that.. if I can avoid the Parkway or the Turnpike, I will. Like going to the shore... I have to take the Parkway and every 15 to 20 miles is a @#$%^&*!!!! toll! Those highways were paid for YEARS ago... OOOH!!! Don't get me started!!!

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder delliott101

they must make several hundred dollars a week with those tolls

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002 thefunkyfresh

Several HUNDRED??? Try several TENS OF THOUSANDS!!!! Those toll roads are the money makers!

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002 delliott101

Well to be honest I don't pay tolls, I just drive through and pretend I did'nt see it...and I have never gotten a ticket. (Hint: only do this through the "Exact change" booth)

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder delliott101

hahaha, i was joking. they probably make a million dollars a day or more

malibu malibuOG 2001 tesoro

why don't you just get ezpass and stop whining?

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 malibu

i have eZpass slick. ur just being protective of the NJ roads when you know quite well how badly they do indeed suck. lol joking!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 tesoro

eZpass is my personal hero.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002 tesoro

pay to drive??? bizzare

malibu malibuOG 2001 ekulu

no you just pay when you go through a toll booth. its only like $1 charge for using it.

magnum magnumOG 2001 malibu

yes you ever think how much that adds up to you, but obviously you are a lil slow in jersey and dont mind wasting your money. In normal places we can drive for free, its actually quite nice!

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 magnum

seriuosly thats so true, considering how many times ive passed over the gothels bridge going to long island, and the verranzano coming home... holy moly i could buy another car... stupid tolls

magnum magnumOG 2001

u are saying penn being next to you is a plus? ummm i think you should re read what u just said!

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002

Actually, I agree... Pennsylvania is pretty okay... since we're in circuit PA-2, lots of friends are out that way!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Actually...I was just joking about that part.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001

haha, i do agree jersey's roads SUCKS! i hate em too....and just for the record....highways....do not have lights.....dont argue with me...they are not supposed to.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

jug handles aren't really like that though... they're more like, when you bear to the right to make a left

iwz iwz

then in your head, continue the line and make it turn to the left.

malibu malibuOG 2001
