Spring Time!!

tesoro by tesoroOG 2001 · Mar 12, 2007 · 6,345 views · ·

It's almost spring and it's supposed to be in the fifties today! woohoo! I am wearing flip flops to work...I was freezing this morning..but..here's to hoping.

Additionally, being that it IS almost Spring..I believe the quote at the bottom of the page should not be about a snowflake.... :)

Loving the new page design...it's kittens. (Cute, soft & cuddly)

I can't believe what I just did at work. This guy's last listed address was 4100 Concord Road. So I ask, do you still live at 4100 Concord Road? And he says "No, that's the prison!" hahaha OOPS! I blurrted out...I'm from Long Island! I don't know these things! And he was actually from NY and was really nice about it. I felt like a tool! haha

who???

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Ok, I'm getting angry about this. Do the parents in anyone else's hall bring their kids to meetings and out in service when they're sick?

The parents in my hall do it constantly, and now I feel like I'm getting a cold, after being in a car with a sick kid all morning Saturday. I asked a few of them about it, and they say they don't want to miss meetings. Ok, that's great, but do they ever use the call-in phone system? It can handle up to 9 lines connected directly to the sound system at the meeting. "Oh no," they say, "I've never done that." Would they? "No, I don't think so." UGH!!!

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

There is this couple in our bookstudy..in their mid-thirties. And it's the funniest thing, because they are constantly changing seats at the meeting if anyone coughs or sneezes around them. You can see them getting noticeably uncomfortable. I'm not sick anymore, but i've had this cough that's been hanging on...and everytime i cough, they shift in their seats. it's so funny.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

But yea, that is annoying..haha..same thing when people come to work sick and get everyone in the office sick. STAY HOME!!!

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

i remember lauren's hall used to have a "clean room", you weren't allowed to wear deoderant or perfume in there. i'm guessing it smelled like funk

"if it smells like funk it must be us"

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

there are a few in my hall too, they just don't get it. they dont get that there are quite a few elderly peeps in the hall that are more susceptible to catching the sickness too. its more selfish than anything.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I couldn't find a website. I read about it in saveur magazine and they only had a phone #. It sounded interesting, though, because you can buy potted herbs that are hard to find. If I had a chance of keeping a plant alive, I might be really excited about that. :P

http://www.paherbfestival.com/

It's only noon-7 Friday and 9-4 Saturday, so I won't be able to make it. I was hoping it ran later, so I could go after service.

I'm sure it'll be full of old people, but you should go! Those herbs are hard to resist.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Haha - check out the herb of the year, "lemon balm" -

Sacred to the temple of Diana, lemon balm was called “heart’s delight’ in southern Europe. Its virtue of dispelling melancholy has been praised by herbal writers for centuries, and it is still used today in aromatherapy to counter depression.

It's sacred to my temple! :P

Baseball :

Field of Dreams
The Rookie?
um...
For Love of the Game was good...

but yeah, way more football movies then baseball movies.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

The Natural and Field of Dreams are immortal movies.

These other movies are fun movies, but not in the same light. Baseball was America's game up until the late 80's. So for 100 years it was the stand alone National Past-time with the richest history of any other sport. Lets give respect where it's due.

R

alexOG 2001 ·

in general sports movies usually stink. but rudy was awesome. all baseball movies make me want to kill myself. i mean come on, angels in the outfield? what a joke.

i think most people would rather watch guys hitting each other so hard their helmets fly off, than watch a fat loser hit a ball with a stick...oh yeah, and football has hot cheerleaders, base does not.

pretty much baseball is stupid, dumb, and boring, and it doesn't take any talent. football on the other hand is the greatest most entertaining sport of them all, and takes a lot more talent than baseball.

Elway couldn't make it in baseball. Drew Henson couldn't. Jordan couldn't. Bo Jackson could but ended up losing his career because of the reason you named, people hitting so hard.

Maybe real violence is a great thing to you, but how many players have been paralyzed from baseball? Guys die working out in Football because of the pads they have to put on, which just shows they have to be protected so much.

Many players could play both, but chose baseball because they could play longer and get more money. So many good baseball players were good college football players, so if you make fun of baseball, you make fun of football. Ask anyone who knows, college guys would pick baseball but choose football because its easier. Football has had the XFL and now the AFL, which are both jokes.

Saying Angels in the outfield is a bad baseball movie is like me saying Air Bud: Golden Receiver is a bad football movie.

Rudy was great, i damn near cry at the end of the movie when he takes the field. Football cheerleaders are hot, but the baseketball ones are better so you didn't even pick them in the hottest sport.

If you dont like baseball who cares? Say its dumb and boring all you want. Football is a great sport but at its core its the same as all other sports, run fast, be strong and watch the ball. I can understand why anyone would think it is the greatest sport so i would never say anyone is stupid for thinking otherwise.

Ok, I have to share this stupid co-worker story because it's really funny to me:

I'm standing in the kitchen here at work getting water, while my co-worker is making coffee. She's from Staten Island and used to work in Manhattan, and she thinks Manhattan is like the end-all, be-all of creation (it's funny that people from manhattan think people from SI are total garbagemen, but if she deludes herself into thinking otherwise, whatever).

So I comment to her that the coffee smells really good, then mention that the only coffee I have lately is espresso with Donovan on Sunday mornings. She proceeds to tell me about 'this fantastic thing her friend found for her in Manhattan, it's so amazing! It's called a "French Press" for making espresso... have you ever heard of it? They have such amazing things in Manhattan! I've never seen that kind of stuff here!'

I said, "Yeah, a French press is from France. They sell them in supermarkets everywhere."

Haha - I'm sure my in-laws agree with you. We had dinner with them a few weeks ago, and my father-in-law said something about how the restaurant has a great brunch buffet: 'They have a tuna spread for bagels AND prime rib!' he exclaimed. I couldn't help but say "Blech" right after he said that. Then I ranted about how prime rib is a crappy cut of meat, I don't know why people think it's so great, blah, blah, blah.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

y'know, i've heard it's the best or whatever, but i hate prime rib. tuna spread? oh, heck no.

am i a worse person for lovingly letting people languish in their happy ignorance bubbles, lol? i do it all the time. i feel like i'm surrounded by ignorant people sometimes, but i'm not handing out reality checks 24/7. it doesn't bring me pleasure to shoot everyone down all the time. let 'em be happy in their little fantasy land.

It's time for a victory dance.

I took my Praxis II examination in March (need it to be certified as a teacher). I didn't study, I didn't really even think too much about it. My classmates had study sessions but they were on meeting nights so I opted out of it.

I got a 192 out of 200!! That places me in the top 15% of test takers. Half the people I know didn't even pass on the first try.

So I repeat: victory dance time.

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

We were talking a few days ago about health food, farmers markets and other hippie stuff; some of you scoffed, but our government seems to think its ok for corporations to sell food which has been put through radiation to us:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/04/03/irradiated.food.ap/index.html

I can't believe the FDA. They keep lowering their standards - they must be in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry: Approve foods that make people sick, then make money medicating them. It's so flippin messed up.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Look at the suppliment industry. The FDA approves tons of that stuff and people die from some of the things the FDA approves.
