hai!

So, I just listened to some Bad Astronaut on Pandora. Hey, it's the singer from Lagwagon! But, not punk. More like pop punk or indie or something.

Donovan and I bought a treadmill at sports authority this weekend, because they were having a crazy sale, and because we have space for one now. As part of the sale, they offered free delivery, so we accepted. Yesterday, I took a call from the lady scheduling the delivery:

Lady: Hi, I'm calling to schedule the delivery and installation of your 8 foot basketball hoop.
Me: My what? I ordered a treadmill.
Lady: My work order says an 8 foot basketball hoop.
Me: That's great, but I ordered a treadmill. Can I call the store to correct this?
Lady: No, I'll call. Are you sure you didn't order a basketball hoop?
Me: Positive.

Like I was going to change my mind and accept the basketball hoop because she pressured me!

So I got all dressed up, a nice suit, careful makeup, to talk to a manager at a local restaurant about a part time chef job. The manager couldn't talk to me, so I just left my resume, but the guy I spoke to told me it's a lunchtime shift (hello? perfect for pioneering) and if the guys they're trying out this week don't work, they'll call me. But I'm sure those guys have actual EXPERIENCE, so I think my chances of getting a call at like 2%. Pleh. So I'm drowning my sorrows in a 3pm cocktail...

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

so our family lawyer (criminal/family law) was saying that he had a case in which a young lady got pulled over because she had window tint on the front windows of her car (which was illegal - or so i thought) so as he's giving her the ticket he notices items in her back seat. she had crystal meth, scales etc...like everything she needs to be selling. anyway they take her in etc. she then gets our family lawyer to represent her.

so they're in court, our lawyer calls the officer to the stand asks him "what is the legal percentage of tint one is allowed to have by law on car windows" (or whatever) the cop was so assured & said "its illegal to have tint on your 2 front windows in CA" he then proceeded w/the questions then called a glass/tint expert to the stand and the expert said that its legal to have 30% shading on the windows and showed documentation.

anyway....cause of that ONE technicality the girl was released! can you believe how this system works, they didnt care about the drugs they found, only the fact that the cop pulled her over for a tinting ticket and he was in the wrong. LOL

So on this trip to Orlando, I made a vow that I wouldn't read any novels (like I normally do) but I'd read the new release that we got at the District Convention (I had mine Memorial Day Weekend - super early). This turned into two weird experiences.

I'm sitting today at a Chinese food place, reading the book, (which by the way, is AWESOME), when a woman comes up to me in a dress.

Woman: Where did you get that book?
Me: It's new. You can't see it.
Woman: But where did you get it?
Me: It's new. At the district convention.
Woman: Are you an apostate?
Me: No. I got it at the district convention.
Woman: Oh. Becuase we weren't sure. *points to an entire car group out in service staring at me*. We saw you reading the book but it didn't look like one we had seen before, so we thought you might be an apostate.
Me: Uh... no. It's really good though.

Last night ... same chinese food resturant . .. different woman.

*Woman tries to grab the book out of my hand as I pass by*
Woman: can I see that?
Me: No. It's new.
Woman: I know, but can I see it?
Me: No. It's new. You have to wait.
Woman: Are you a witness?
Me: Yes. Don't worry.

Just ridiculous. Keep this in mind when reading a new release from the society in broad daylight. I'd read it in the airport right now but I kind of want to be left alone for a while.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I'm a little torn. I posted a few weeks ago that I was excited about a job ad for an assistant chef at a gourmet store. I sent an email to the company asking what kind of experience they're looking for, and basically, they want someone with some experience, but will do a 3 hour kitchen trial to test the candidate. The email specifically said it's day time hours, 40+ hours per week.

Now, I'd love this job, because it would be good cooking field experience and daytime hours, which is nearly unheard of. But I wanted to get a job that was 3-4 days/week so I could pioneer. So I could try out for the job and possibly work full time now, while we save up to buy a house, then maybe take the experience and networking and start my own catering company in a few years.

Man, satan makes this world so tempting, but I really don't want to put off pioneering for any longer.

iwz iwz ·

just pioneer!

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

im with ian! if you can do it DO IT! everything else will fall into place.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

i agree with ian and tina. hold out for something with less hours. don't make a specific schedule and limit yourself to positions with that schedule. be open to things outside of your interest/skill area. it's like the YPA video said-you might end up with a job that you never expected. if it means you get to pioneer, how could it not be worth it?

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

You are one of the most articulate people I have ever known, and had the privilege of pioneering with. You present the truth in such a beautiful way. Delay no longer. Pioneer. Jehovah will bring all else together. You'll be in my prayers.

so in the past year 2 friends of mine have had babys and i know of atleast 5 that are preggers. and in just our hall 1 had a baby and 2 are preg. i have a feeling its going to catch on VERY QUICKLY... if it happens YAY if not... thats fine too!

englandkid englandkidOG 2003 ·

does it matter to you that on our side, your baby will be the favorite? I SO do not want children.

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

yeah that matters but i've seen your choice in men and our kid is obviously going to be MUCH CUTER! HAHAH!

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

That's like sum sort of mega ULTRA sibling burn right there.

Guess I can't talk about bad taste... the other day my friend described this guy I wuz semisweet on for a minute as a "sawed off leprechaun".

Yeaah
I literally gasped but, couldn't keep a straight face and was still laughing like 20 min later, and then just now AGAIN while posting this.

englandkid englandkidOG 2003 ·

excuse me, but my choice in men does include the "hottest brother in the circuit", and someone told me tonight that I'm not the only one who thinks that!

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

yeah so what - i notice all the guys you pick have one distinctive trait

yo muffy good job on service

englandkid englandkidOG 2003 ·

I have a question for everyone. Where's a good place to find special deals/promotions for traveling? I know a bunch of regular websites like orbitz or travelocity. Where else might I look?

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

cheaptickets.com, priceline.com

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

www.airfarewatchdog.com
www.farecast.com (domestic only, but awesome tech)

Here's my friend Steve and Jenni's first dance as a married couple .... it started all slow, with "my heart must go on" or some crap

And then ...

HOLY COW Jenni Weiner?!!?!? I remember Jenni & Steve =D

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

awww that is SO cute! i love stuff like this.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

some of the weddings lately are so surreal to me. i see jenni as a girl at my little sisters sleepovers and steve is this goofy guy who broke a lamp in our house by swinging his casted arm around while cheering at our kitten races. happy for them, but it's still surreal.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

I know what you mean forrest... I feel the same way with a bunch of weddings lately... and it just reminds me that Im getting old :P

Can you tell that I listen to my iPod on random?

http://www.last.fm/user/ianzabel/charts/?charttype=weekly&subtype=artist

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

how is that information captured?

iwz iwz ·

A little plugin that uploads everything you listen to.

http://www.last.fm/download/

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

iiiinteresting. would be useful to track what I listen to. I want to delete a bunch of stuff from my iPod.

iwz iwz ·

If you want to track your iPod, you have to install the iSproggler one. Then, every time you sync up, it'll upload what you've listened to.

sure! i'm glad they survived the USPS.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

looks like they have a new one that came out this year, it has that song "hey there delilah" on it that's getting some radio play

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

I heard "Hey there delilah" on the radio and even though I was happy to hear it, I frowned because now there will be many people jumping onto the Plain White T's bandwagon and there goes the small little venue shows and hello to the $40+ shows... BTW - Matt this album has been out for a while...

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

that song reminds me of my friend...we were doing early service and that song came on and we were driving to our next stop. She turns up the radio and starts singing at the top of her lungs. ANNND she has the WORST singing voice EVER! lol so now when i hear tht song, i don't hear plain white t's....i only hear my friend singing in her broke down tore up voice.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

My favorite line of that song is: "But just believe me girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar"

It's so stinkin CUTE!

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·
