Page 1 of 2RUSH....great band.....saw them on VH1classic station last nite...they are a combo of Yes, Pink Floyd and Dream theatre...
Damien Rice, "O" -good cd.
Most definately! I've been listening to "Volcano" and "Cannonball" a lot, myself.
Man, Im listening to "Sic Transit Gloria" by Brand New for about the 23rd time in a row. Its one of the best songs Ive heard in a reaaaaally long time. With this sea of crappy music its refreshing to hear a song that completely kicks your legs out from under you and hits you in a face with a sledgehammer.
The video for the song is also amazing. I just happened to be channel surfing and caught it. Now I always watch the music channels to try and catch it.
i have respect for Brand New
yo, the bass line in that song is so amusing, haha, it's SO not emo..or even rock, i really don't know what you'd call it but just plain cool...& that video is great
EVERYBODY go out & buy Story Of The Year's new album "Page Avenue", LLLLLOVVEE IT...AND, go check out "Fall Out Boy" very good stuff
and after u get those go aout and buy 2 more CDs:*Wander This World* AND *Long Tme Comin*.....this kid has perfected rock and roll. Frest, u would LOOOOOOOVE him.
is that johnny lang?
Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant get enought of him.
u liked the Story of the Year CD? bobby said he hated it...
no, this statement was premature....I downloaded like 3-4 songs off the album & liked'm - thinking the rest of the album had to be as good..then I actually listened to it I think it's pretty darn boring
Vivaldi - Late Violin Concertos
Am I the only classical music geek here?
most likely, ya wierdo....joking
Im not a classical geek i rather be called a classical genius i like bach, purcell, handel, Remeau basically anyone from the baroque period im starting to like composers in the romantic period too.
I'm not really partial to one time period, though I have been listening to a lot of Baroque stuff recently.
I want a harpsichord...
I wish I could play a harpsichord. I started taking piano lessons from an older sister in my previous congregation about 4 years ago, but I stopped soon after since I had to move to the bay area. I was just beginning to be able to play some simplified versions of the Kingdom songs too. Oh well.
thats sad... cant you find someone else to give you lessons
At first I tried to find someone to continue my lessons with, but (a) I really wanted to take lessons from a sister or brother, and I couldn't find any in my new area that did that and (b) I really don't have enough time to devote to piano lessons what with going to school, teaching, doing research, not to mention all the things we do as JWs. At first I was kinda disappointed, but now I realize that, God-willing, I'll have all the time in the world to do that in the new system.
You're in the bay area? Is there not the best music scene ever near you?
In San Francisco there is, but I live in Danville, which is about an hour's drive from there.
Still good. Wanna trade houses? There's a sister in my hall that teaches piano.
Lol. Isn't the music scene just as good around NYC?
Yeah, it's pretty good. But most bands come from the West Coast.
Possibly. I don't really pay much attention to new bands anymore, so I wouldn't know.
AFI= East Bay Hard Core. They're awesome, though some on this site with disagree. Where are youu..I know you're out there!
i say...live and let live.
no, I love Mozert, esp Le nozze de Figaro (howerver ya spell it)

u must be kidding me...
"It's the best that you've ever had, the best thing you have ever had has got away." such an awesome line and song

Rx Bandits- Wrong With Me
White Flag-Dido
I'm in love with Dido. ..and her songs too, of course. But, yeh, I still hafta purchase the new album. Don't ask me why I haven't yet. I should have it by now.
normally, i don't really like her....but this song is definitely amazing
See..I liked her original stuff a lot more, this song is weird.
hmm, i guess i just think this song is unique...her other stuff bored me a bit
yo, chill out w/all this Dido talk, go listen to Bjork...
the new Coheed and Cambria - Elf Power
this stuff is KEY. refined sound! long complicated thrashy songs intact!
yeah, i'm gonna have to just go out & buy it, I've loved'm since they first came out..I gave it a lil listen in hot topic & wasn't impressed @ ALL...but I'm sure the fact that the headphones hardly worked and there was music being played in the store which totally conflicted w/what I was trying to listen to played a part in that....is there a drastic departure from their previous vibe?
no departure. it's like a smarter continuation.
sublime (punk covers)- sippin on gin and juice (laid back) with my mind on my money and my money on my mind.
Hum-Stars
I heard a Hum song covered at Hamilton St and only now did I decide to buy the CD and give this band a try. THEY ARE SOOOOO GOOD.
"She thinks she missed the train to mars, she's out back counting stars..."
I AM ROMANTICALLY IN LOVE W/HUM
!!!!!..haha, my band actually inspired something, that's sooooo awesome, this is what rock&roll's all about..glad we got you into the HUM, on of my favorite bands of all time..yeah, it's SOOOO fun playing that song, especially in front of a crowd that doesn't expect that song to be played, it's like forgotten, most people would expect a contemporary mainstream song as a cover...Go buy their album "Downward Is Heavenward" too..it's not like You'd Prefer An Astronaut @ all, but it's still spacy & truely one of the most beautiful albums I own
Martin Sexton - Glory Bound
Random Task- Tuesday Day-Dream
A live acoustic session of Blur, from the Virgin Radio UK studio; 105.8fm London!!!
yo A Perfect Circle gets down, I heard track one on their newest album & I almost fainted, I LOVE TRIBAL GROOVES....and Brand New too, I like their new album a lot
i'll agree. both albums are BOSS. james iha from smashing pumpkins plays on the new APC album and i dig Brand New's kinda dark approach on their latest. good times.
yo the lead singer, at least on Brand New's single, has kinda a 80's british new wave thing goin on w/his vocals, reminded me of the cars or something..I like a lot..& there's a lota umph goin down in the guitar work...and, I mean, APC can do no wrong..well, except for that one song on Mar De Nomes..u know what I'm talking about....
Thats a REALLY good way for Brand New to go. because allllll the singers in that pop/punk/emo genre sound the same. and, yup, he's got the brit thing going on and what a great place to go that is! dark pop punk with smiths/joydivision/talkingheads/cars type singing. a lot of good new york bands are using that style too, like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Interpol. i'm really digging all that. Brand New gets props.
INTERPOL IS THE STUFF...good lord, I love them folks....it's all about the bass & drums w/them too, although the guitar's more audible simply because it's the highest octave, they're kinda just creating atmosphere most of the time, the major grooves&coolest riffs are going down w/the drummer & bassist
Interpol's a New York band, but 2 of the member in BRMC are Califorians, and the drummer's English.
yeah, they're an NYC band but they don't sound like it is the point..it's pretty obvious were their main influence comes from
No, I mean, fivezero was talking about NYC's bands, and included BRMC in that ilk. So, I was answering to it, in saying that, Interpol is a NYC band, but BRMC is not. But, to answer to you, yeh, Interpol does have the influence of which you speak of. So, does BRMC, while we're at it. ...e'en tho, two are from San Fran, and one is from England (both, a far cry from NYC. hahaha).
yo i've been TELLING you that for YEARS now shut ur face mr."i hate brand new"
yo the brand new cd you made me is horrible ... the quality, i mean...i beetter just go buy it, eh??
i definitely made that and it's not my fault my dad's computer is crappy.
yea dan... i told u to stop chewing on ur CDs...
alright, #1, whether you've been listening to brand new for a while or not, you've never once uttered something to me about them..I dunno if you ever noticed this, but, we don't really exchange to many musical suggestions...#2, I never said I hate brand new!...you're pullin stuff outa yer butt short stuff
OUTKAST/BigBoi - "knowing"
When I'm not listening to CDs or other digital formats on my computer, I'm either listening to Virgin Radio UK 105.8 fm London, BBC Radio Wales, The Arrow UK, WPRB Princeton University, Studentradioen i Trondheim, Studentradioen i Bergen, or nothing tat tall.
......the uncomprehensible babbling of my family.
ey, anybody hear this song by this band called Yellowcard?...main lyric in the chorus is something like "how it feels to be alone & not believe"...something like that..anyway, they're cool, punk/emo kinda sound..& they have a violin player the band..now, you would think, what w/the inclusion of a violinist in the band, for the genre they're in, their sound would be like really different..but, lol, it's not...I guess I have to hear more of'm..but the violin adds nothing,& I mean they should be taking FULL ADVANTAGE of it
it's right under your nose bro, in my recent post. "Way Away"
I just got a violin a couple of months ago. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to play. I knew it'd be hard. But, it's more than hard. I bet it's impossible. I can only play a couple of things on it, that I made up myself, thus far. I prefer the theremin over it tho... and keyboards of course, and well etcetera etcetera etcetera. (Not saying I like the sounds of violins any less.... I only mean, as far as playing them, is concerned.)
"hello
i wish i was a little bit taller
i wish i was a baller
i wish i had a girl if i did i would call her"

aimee mann - lost in space is an amazing CD and Daft Punk - Discovery is extra good too. the rest--put it in the garbage can. but to be fair, i don't know some of that stuff so the garbage comment is pending a couple select titles.
daft punk - discovery is the first album i ever bought.
liar! it's not even out on vinyl...(is it?)
it's on a cd. and it's the truth, it's the first ever cd i bought. i'm too broke to buy cd's
The CD is cool, because if buy the CD, you can download extra songs and remixes from their site with the included software on the CD.
John Mayer, along with Bob Saget, is the devil.
OT: i glad u mentioned bob saget (before i mean, in another thread). we have this bethlite in our cong. who reminded me of someone, and i couldn't place....until now (well, until before, in the other thread).
you can't post script, only i can. i modified it for you. if you want a different format, tell me which one
Do you really care what i'm listening too... if you must know.. song number 34

BAND FROM SOCIETY!
Rx Bandits- Falling Down the Mountain
i just bought "progress" the other day...you would be proud. drive thru rules.
I have progress..or..I have them all downloaded or burned until I can get into the city to buy some CDs at decent prices.
*coughcoughsecondspin.comcoughcough*....seriously, i mention them all the time, but i ordered the NFG Sticks and Stones Limited Ed. from them...and they sent me a regular one...so I called...and said...what's up...they said...keep the CD...and we'll credit your acct. 9 dollars so you can have a Free CD of your choice...10 mins later, i was credited, and i got the newest goldfinger album too.
yo i messed up about GF i do have an edited version
uh oh. if, according to you, the edited verison is "not that bad", the explicit version must be horrible...this can't be good.
hey captain relax i have too many cds to make these distinctions.
Well..my mother doesn't like having anything second hand in our house because we used to run into some demo problems because of all the second hand stuff my sister had. Because I had wanted to order from there when you first put up the thread about it.
yo ian, d'you have their first album?...I think it's just self titled, VERY good stuff though, they like define trip-hop, love'm
Yeah, I have that, it's queued up next on my playlist actually.
they also have a live album, w/a full on orchestra & everything, it's amazing how they pull that stuff off live, NOTHING'S programed or anything, it's all done right then & there...Some of the songs sound a tad bit better live actually...u know their song glory box?..I love it, but, I always feel a bit awkward when that "just wanna be a woman" line comes up, hard for me to sing along, haha
hahaha.. check my now playing right this second
yeah, look @ that haha, good timing..every time that line comes up, and I like make a mistake & sing along, I feel like I'm gona grow mamary glands or something, lol, get all freaked out for about a 1 1/2 seconds until the beat catches me again, & everything's ok..until the next chorus......
some DJ's are so annoying. they kill the song with their shoutouts and stupid sound effects. grrr, makes me mad
I'm listening to Every pop song that you all hate, and every song that every punk band that has "sold out " has played. just because i can, so quit playing games with my heart.
hahahaha. that made me smile cuz i thougth about people getting mad from this comment.
Artist: The Postman Syndrome
Album: Terraforming
AMAZING stuff, think Tool-style avante garde metal mixed w/indie rock, a touch of emo, hardcore, latin jazz, and traditional latin music...but, amidst all of that diversity, it's seamless, there's no herky-jerky genre changes, it all flows..
Artist: Hopesfall
Album: The Satilite Years
HUM REINCARNATED in a hardcore/emo context, these guys have direct influence from Hum, and it's very hearable
Artist: Mogwai
Album: Happy Songs For Happy People
All insturmental, very dramatic, & experimental..catches you right away
yo bring mogwai and hopesfall to the meeting thurs i want to copy-i'll call you to remind you
