These Are A Few of My Favorite Bands... (updated)

I came to another stunning, Nobel prize-worthy realization the other day, when i discovered that no matter how hard you try, you will never be able to "see air," I mean it's subatomic for cryin out loud!. At the time this came to me, I was listening to the song "Rocket Man," (an Elton John song) as performed by "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes." If you haven't heard this band, you are definitely missing out, because they are awesome. Until recently though, all I really knew about this band (aside from them getting paid ridiculous amounts of money for playing other people's music) was that it was made up of a bunch of guys who play covers of old hit songs, and have a great time doing it.

Some of the songs they have covered are "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things" from the pop culture classic "Sound of Music" Soundtrack (hence my title), showtunes from "Grease," "Annie" and "Evita," Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl," John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane," and other timeless pieces like Barry Mann's "Who Put the Bomp (In the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)," and the Angels' "My Boyfriend's Back." What I didn't know was that the members of the band were actually members of other bands that I also like.

Me First is made up of 5 members:

vocalist Spike Slawson, also in the Swingin' Utters

guitarist Chris Shifflet, also in the Foo Fighters and No Use for a Name

guitarist Joey Cape, also in Lagwagon

bassist Fat Mike, also in NOFX

drummer Dave Raun, also in Lagwagon and Good Riddance

Update: I also found out that Spike does not sing, but plays BASS for the Swingin' Utters, which I thought was really cool too. Also it appears that Chris Shifflet is no longer in NUFAN.

All of the above are, in my opinion, great bands, although I don't really know too much about Good Riddance and the Swingin Utters except from what I've heard off of the Fat Wreck Chords comps. But I think its awesome that they jam with one another, and don't limit themselves to one band. Looks like I had the right idea all along right? If I was a professional musician, I think I'd be in 200 bands... but alas, I'm not, so I'll have to stick to the 178 that I'm currently in. Anyway, I thought this was an interesting tidbit that you would all like to know. Check these guys out right now!
