**ONE MORE QUESTION**

Ok, has anyone ever had to switch schools in the middle of the year? How old were you? Do you think it was a bad thing? Did you have a hard time making friends? Any advice you'd give kids who have to do the same?

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Haha - I must've gone to like 5 different schools when I was little; and rarely did we move in the summertime. I think it helped me to learn to be independent and not care what other people think. And I think those are both crucial qualities to staying in the truth. I remember it being tough at the time, but in retrospect, I'm glad I had those experiences to make me a stronger person. I've seen so many friends who were kind of shielded by their parents go off the deep end and leave the truth.

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

We're actually 6th in the BCS.

Thats the monster of the BCS Rankings .. it takes into account 3 polls and BCS Computer calculations. Polls are from Coaches, Sportswriters...
Sportswriters who really have no idea what life is about anyway.
They sit there and talk about a weak conference... While the BCS Computer actually calculates strength of schedule and quality of win...etc. puts them at 2nd.

And no idea how our conference can be weak when we had louisville and WV in the hunt for a bcs championship.

Sports is so stupid.

Court on Friday...Joy...

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

Ok, I need to get a discussion going.....you all know the stuff that's been going on with Tyler and school and stuff, from what I've mentioned....and I need to get everyone's thoughts on public school vs. homeschool. Nothing is being considered right now, but I need to get sort of a pros/cons discussion going. :)

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

From my own experience with Emily, I see that public school is not a good situation for her. Unfortunately I have no wife to be home with her to do it, so I'm in a pickle. If your situation allows you to school him at home, I would do it if I were you. There is too much temptation, not to mention silly nonsense that goes on in school.

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

And see, I worry about that, but at the same time, I feel like he needs to learn how to handle certain situations, to better prepare him for when he's older.....it's that rock and a hard place thing....because I know he'd like being at home with me, but I don't know if it's 100% the best thing, even though where he's at now, is making him miserable.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

It depends on the situation. Emily has behavior problems, so I'm constantly talking with the school to control it. She never got enough attention from her mother, so I think it has scarred her. So now it translates into her being stubborn and not wanting to do what she is told. I have no problems with Jake. He adjusts easily. In his case, having him in school is fine, but Emily is a different story. Should've had 2 boys. LOL!

Give it some thought and prayer and find the answer you shall.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Maybe you should take her to a therapist. Most insurance agencies cover it.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah, I'm working on that. I left a message with a place today.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I'm always amazed when I read the pysch evaluations of little kids for custody cases at work - play therapy is amazing to me; even the brains of small children are vastly complex.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yup. I've been dealing with this for over a year now. So it's time to get it taken care of. I thought going to Kindergarten would help her, but I guess not.

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 ·

the nonsense only gets bigger and sillier once they are out of school. i think school is a good learning experience and gives kids a chance to defend their faith and make stands for Jehovah. I think it does kids a disservice by sheltering them too much.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

True. Again it depends on the child.

C
chuggieOG 2003 ·

I'm no expert, but a personal opinion is that if its an issue where is sprtl or phsycl being is being harmed i'm all for homeschool. But if any problems aren't worked out now when they are not (relatively) so serious, what happens when he is older and has to deal with the same issues with older people and the situations are serious?

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 ·

i def agree that homeschool should be an option if a child's health and welfare is in serious danger.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

I kinda agree with Broman. It certainly depends on the kid. But, I'd lean toward public school. It'll teach the kid to cope with all kinds of problems and make a personal stand for his faith. It's a tough world to live in. You can't coddle them til their 18. They need to get out there and build their own armor. Get a little dog's blood on their face, so to speak.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

And that's certainly true for a child like my son Jacob. My daughter Emily, well... We'll see what happens. From what I know of Tyler his traits seem somewhat similar to Emily's. I have the bruises from plastic lightsabres to prove it. LOL! It's not either of their faults. All kids develop differently.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Therapy should help her with that. So many of my clients think there's a stigma attached to sending their small kids to therapy, but really, they can only benefit from it. It's designed to help them with social issues which trickle down into other behaviors. Maybe if Tyler's having a lot of trouble adjusting (assuming no outside factors are egregious), therapy might help him too.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah, she is a very sweet and affectionate little girl. And Tyler seemed like a very fun and loving kid when I met him. It's sad to see little people go through these problems.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

it's a pretty authentic pub. great atmosphere. a mix of hardcore locals and visiting passers through. nothing too crazy. Swift's is good too.

just a bar and they don't like you lingering. you need to keep drinking or they yell at you to leave. and they aren't fans of the ladies.

15 minutes and then I leave. Yay!! It's nice to have no kids to worry about. I come in early, I leave early. Sweet!

So Monster, are the floodwaters in Washington affecting your area?

No too bad... roads flooded around the complex where I work, but further out the valley where we have our conventions... lots are being evacuated. http://tinyurl.com/y8hojb

Already saw the Body Worlds exhibit in Philly, so we'll pass on that.
