So we're renovating the basement at our hall. The brother in charge asked our hall to make lunch for about 10-12 volunteers this saturday. I told Donovan I'd help if no one else could, but I really wanted to spend a long day in service, so I preferred not to make anything if possible.

One of the older, um, hard of hearing, (senile) sisters in our hall says she'll organize the whole thing and make sure the food is taken care of. Donovan tells her we're not involved and gives her the names of 3 other volunteers whom she can contact and organize. So I didn't give it another thought.

We get a phone call from this older sister last night. Donovan explains again that we really didn't want to make anything because we want to do a long service day. After about a 5 minute conversation, the sister asks, "So can you bring a cake?"

A

mandie mandieOG 2001 ·

Ok so i have a question...does anyone else find it interesting how democrats took both the house and senate with a republican president? (keep in mind democrats view on religion)...

yay yayOG 2004 ·

yes, i've been saying this for a while

Remember those cases about removing God from money, and 10 commandments from buildings, etc etc etc? Well just wait with democrats in office and see what happens now.

iwz iwz ·

i'm a complete political noob... can you explain this a bit more? i have no idea what i should be reading between the lines

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Historically, republicans are known for being champions of "traditional values", including religion, intact families and a class system. Democrats are known for being more "liberal", or challenging religions, promoting gay marriages, etc. (Is that a good synopsis?)

Personally, I think it's terrible that we live in a so-called "Free" country and really, 99% of our elected leaders have to hold to one of those ideologies, even if that's not what's reasonable for the public. The two-party democratic system is a complete joke.

mandie mandieOG 2001 ·

yeah basically, democrats aren't big at all on religion..republicans are big on religious freedom...so you have bush who is all about religious freedom..but democrats have alot of control now to veto him. is that right? its ok ian, i need garrett to explain all of this to me too. so basically what i was thinking, you have these people who have the power to "eliminate" religion...what better people to have in power for jehovah to put in their hearts to try to elimante all religion. does that make sense? just a little theory which could be way off...

yay yayOG 2004 ·

Yeah, same thoughts, but I was also thinking how it's hard to see how democrats here would fit into the world setting. It seems a lot of their views are "why do we need religion backing US government" not "we should abolish all religion in the world"

But the way I understood this was, now that most of the democrats are in the house they can rightly reject most of what the president tries for. This usually means a turning over of the presedential seat to the party favored in the house at next election, where now most issues attempted by a democratic president would then be favored.

Overall it just seems the world attitude in general is "we should just not have religion" or at least many people are turning that way

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

You really think thats the general attitude out there in the world?
I don't pick up on thatt..

And democrats aren't against religion... They are against RELIGION IN Goverment.

Seperating Church and State and such..

maybe im' out of the loops

yay yayOG 2004 ·

Yeah That's what I was trying to relate. This is what I meant by "why do we need religion backing US government" attitude, they don't want religion "in" the government. Not that want to abolish the freedom of having it.

I just notice a lot more than usual younger generations not caring about religion. Even older ones fed up with the churches, etc.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I think a lot of the problem right now is that our current president keeps talking about god. I think dems really just want that to stop, generally. And they're opposed to the war, so that's why the change in the houses is so critical. Notice the last few weeks how Bush has been saying 'We're going to change our strategy in Iraq'? It was widely thought that control of the houses would shift and bush wouldn't have quite the amount of power he did over the war, so he's trying to save face. The shift in power is also emphasized by the fact that Rumsfeld is being replaced as secretary of defense.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

haha, oh absolutely, around here most newlyweds are able to buy a house right off the bat, that doesnt happen too often in NJ/NY.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Newlyweds...Try people who even make decent salaries. If you didn't buy a house before the late 90's in this area, you are screwed. I make more than twice as much I did in 1999 and I was in a better position to buy a house then. How ridiculous is that!

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

wow, that is frustrating, move to PA! haha

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

Mortgage rates are really good now tho. Historically low.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Who cares though, when you can't get anything below $300K that's any good.

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

Because say it's 5% down and a 7% rate over 30 years. It'll be about 1900 a month for a 300k house. Less than that per month, if more money down, which will also mean a better rate. I'm just giving a hypothetical that for what rents are in NJ, it's not much more for owning a house.

theremin thereminOG 2002 · theremin

Btw, I don't own house. Just giving a general idea of the "numbers." It's hard to ignore the actual price of the home. But, when it comes to NJ, you gotta see what it is in terms of monthly payment, so it doesn't seem as harsh. haha

iwz iwz · theremin

1900 a month isn't realistic to expect for a total monthly payment in NJ on a 300k mortgage. PITI, man, PITI

taxes are ridiculous

theremin thereminOG 2002 · iwz

I didn't factor that in, because I'm not a mortgage broker and there's so many different scenerios and mortgage programs, such as getting 2 different loans, etc. Just gave the base numbers, 'cause I don't even know what taxes are up there. But, it can be bought for around 2000 a month, not including PMI and taxes.

iwz iwz · theremin

this is in hackettstown, which has lower taxes than most surrounding areas:

Purchase Price: $300,000.00
Rate: 6.00%
Term: 30 Years
Down Payment: $0.00
Yearly Taxes: $4,800.00
Yearly Insurance: $720.00
Income Required (33% Ratio): $82,132.73
Income Required (36% Ratio): $75,288.33
Monthly Payment: $2,258.65

add PMI in there (if you can't get a good First Time Home Buyer mortgage, and it's even worse)

renting is so much cheaper. :(

iwz iwz · iwz

i'm sorry, that was 0% down, and 6% interest.

here's 5% down, and 7% interest

Purchase Price: $300,000.00
Rate: 7.00%
Term: 30 Years
Down Payment: $15,000.00
Yearly Taxes: $4,800.00
Yearly Insurance: $720.00
Income Required (33% Ratio): $85,676.73
Income Required (36% Ratio): $78,537.00
Monthly Payment: $2,356.11

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 · iwz

What about 10% down?

iwz iwz · web-toedchloe

if you're putting 10% down, that means you've been saving, so you probably have pretty good credit. so i figured in a 6% interest rate

Purchase Price: $300,000.00
Rate: 6.00%
Term: 30 Years
Down Payment: $30,000.00
Yearly Taxes: $4,800.00
Yearly Insurance: $720.00
Income Required (33% Ratio): $75,592.36
Income Required (36% Ratio): $69,293.00
Monthly Payment: $2,078.79

getting better!

theremin thereminOG 2002 · iwz

That's the thing, getting the right mortgage program.. as well as moving out of Hackettstown (and buying the house through me and my mortgage brokers). haha

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 · iwz

PA just passed a law called "Act 1" lowering property taxes (but raising income taxes, so renters get screwed). I don't know if NJ did something similar, but they may have. It might be worth a google for you if you're looking to buy. I think the rates go into effect in the 2008 school year.

A
alexOG 2001 funny · web-toedchloe

that's how far behind PA is...they just passed there first act, lol.

theremin thereminOG 2002 · web-toedchloe

NJ did similar. But the added tax is found in sales tax. The rich get richer and poor, poorer.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 · theremin

It also relates to what we were talking about earlier - Republicans v. Democrats. Rep are known to lower taxes and Dems are known to raise them; all these laws changing taxes were passed very close to the mid-term elections, don't you think?

B
brothermanOG 2004 · theremin

Yeah. Its still a lot. Plus you have to factor in oil for heat, much bigger electric bill, taxes, etc. The mortgage alone is $800 more than what I pay for my rent. I'll have to settle for waiting awhile.

theremin thereminOG 2002 · brotherman

Yeh it is. No argument there. I was just more or less just trying to explain that it's actually a good time for buyers despite how bad the prices look. For instance, people bought way lower priced homes in the 1980s.. buuuut probably had like an 18% mortgage rate. So, it's all relative. See historical mortgage rate chart here - http://www.thompsonsrealty.com/Mortgage_Rate_History/page_1708965.html
So, prices are high, but rates are good and at an all time low, despite the slow rising. And also, not every house listed at 300k is selling for 300k. List prices are very deceiving right now in this market, unless for a change the seller was actually smart enough to list it for what it's is worth and should sell for, instead of playing a waiting game to see if a buyer will give him that price.

Why I should not have gotten out of bed this morning:
1. I registered for classes this morning. You would think that because I have senior status and get to register before everyone else I wouldn't get closed out of the classes that I absolutely need to be able to graduate as of next fall. WRONG! And my genius advisor is away on business today and can't handle the problem for me.
2. My second class was canceled today but I thought I'd go to my first one even though I'm still not feeling too well. Took forever to get to school because it is monsooning outside and I got soaked walking up to the school from my car because the school is on the huge hill and it was like walking through a river.
3. Class was meaningless. Walking back to my car I got more than soaked because a car decided to drive right next to me and just..splash me. So I got to drive home soaking wet, cold, and sick.

YAY!

Is it worth spending $64 on a pair of jeans, if they look AMAZING on you?

Seriously....I need a vote....

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

GEEZ will you stop sharing personal information on here?!?!?

j/k

haha

um i would say yes. Especially if it's a once in a while splurge kind of thing. I believe in paying for quality.

woot

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

But they make my butt look GOOOOOOOD!!!! Hahahahaha!!!

Yeah, I'm hoping that's what the majority says, about splurging.....heehee.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

pix+divx

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

I'm sorry, that would be too much info for me to share.....in a MUCH more personal way, heehee!! I mean, you guys are my friends and all, but,....... :)

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

TOO PERSONAL? no. such. thing. for you.

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

Untrue.....my booty jeans are considered my "personal space" hahahahaha.

Seriously, though....Buckle's jeans.....are phe-NOM!!!! (e...nal)

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

gap jeans make my butt pop

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

Jeans, as much as I love these, are the most hated thing I buy....well, pants in general.....I rarely can find the right fit.....they either gap in the back, or are too short, or something else.....blasted pants!!!! >:(

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

um HELLLLO. thats a lame question to ask! LOL i buy $80+ jeans. thats a DEAL that you're paying! what brand are they?

seriously, no matter if they're over $50 or under and they make your booty look good and overall good fit, you NEED to buy them!

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

Buckle.....LOVE THEM!!!

G
gizmoEst. 2006 ·

:O $80+? I don't pay more than $30 for jeans.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Girls are weird that way. $20-30 is my limit for jeans as well.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

Go out one day and try to find a pair of nice women's jeans for under $50. Seriously, try it.

C
chuggieOG 2003 ·

Just wait, he'll have to one day and then we'll hear him on here about it..

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Well when that day comes, I will be a slave. Haha... I've already been married, I know the drill. Glad I don't have to deal with that right now.

C
chuggieOG 2003 ·

i meant for the kiddies...

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Ah...Well, they can work when they get older and buy their own $80 jeans.

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

Especially after poppin' out a kid....your body is never the same....neither is your booty.....

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

What! LOL! You are like 2% body fat.

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Oh, that's a good one, hahaha.....yeah, I'm skinny, but I got meat on my bones, haha.

No seriously, I never had trouble finding a good fitting pair of jeans until after Tyler....I was skinny when I was younger, but since I had him so young, my body still hadn't developed a "grown up" shape to it....now I have real hips and everything!! Hahaha.....kids are great...can't wait to see how the next one destroys my body, hahaha.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

well us girls have a harder time, esp ones like me, i'm tall, i need length, i'm latin, i need something that helps w/the curves....so most of the higher end priced jeans cater to such all in one pair ya know. so it's ALL worth it. ANNNNND jeans never go out of style so you can wear and tear and they still look fab!

mandie mandieOG 2001 ·

get them...64 isn't that bad for jeans actually...since i'm amazon i have to pay even more for jeans that are long enough...DO IT!!!

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

I dont know... is it worth spending 64$'s on jeans when half naked kids are running around with malaria starving when 64$'s can buy them 6 months worth of nutritious food ??????

Man.. that sure kills the mood huh

C
chuggieOG 2003 ·

Yeah I think people should be forced to stand in front of 1000 starving orphans and read off their eBay purchases:

'I never got any food'
"For $9.95 I bought a mars attacks coffee mug"
'I'm digesting my own gum meat'
"R2D2 Salt-and-Pepper Shakers"

R

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

Fergie is ugly from the neck up fo' sho'.

Her face is beat.. it's like a Cross between a Bull dog and Monkey.

So I was looking at this card that was on the table, and it was in German.
Just wondering why the card was in German. My grandmother was telling me that it was from her trip to an international convention, in Switzerland years back.
The card was sort of a keepsake that she wants to pair with her photos and other memorabilia. I tried to read the card (cause when I was like 12 I took German) I'm told that the word fart in some form means road maybe Fhart or something like that.

Anyway she's so cute she said she took a picture everytime she saw the word, just 'cause it struck her funny so that in her collection of photos is a series of the word fhart/fart, so adorable lol!!!

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

strange.
Road in German is:
Autostraße {f}
Landstraße {f}
Reede {f}
Straße {f}
Weg {m}
