thanks! i'm also trying to incorporate some macrobiotic principles. not going too crazy with those though.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

macrobiotic?

CONGRATS by the way!!!! :)

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

it means long life. it's a japanese dietary regimen. the basics---eat food according to the seasons. healthy people: chew each mouthful 50 times. people with digestive problems: 100 times. 10-15 minute daily body rub with warm towel (separate from bathing/showering) to increase circulation/release toxins. no beverage while eating-30 mins before or 1 hour after.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

oh ok. i do the "no bevarage" thing. but the chewing....i cant do that...im usually starving and end up swallowing whole. lol jk

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

i know that takes a lot of concentration! it helps me eat way less than i'm used to though.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

Crazyness---you guys ready for this...Some of you may remember that Austin and I were in a wedding November 2006...so it has been 6 months...and yea...they are getting divorced. How freakin crazy is that.

What's weird though...is that like..we just became friends with these people like a year before their wedding (Austin knew the girl for longer)...and we were asked to be in it...and basically RIGHT after the wedding...they totally stopped hanging out...and we just thought it was like..cuz they were married now and wanted some alone time...(Me & Austin were kinda introverted for the first few months we were married)

But yea...not the case here. I just have no idea how this happens....SIX MONTHS!!! Insanity.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

well some peeps DO change after getting married. some peeps REALLY hide their true colors until after their married...you cant keep up a charade. the girl can say she's EVERYTHING to the guy (making herself seem to be what he wants) and vice versa then BAM come living together and being around ea other ALL the time, you can no longer put up the charade ya know.

and besides things happen behind closed doors that no one knows about. my friends friend got married last year and was only married for 5 months...reason they got it annulled...he started hitting her. and the sad thing, he was SUCH the gentleman. was an MS, loved by the cong...etc. you just dont know.

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

It's so sad you hit the nail right on the head Gina
some peeps REALLY hide their true colors until after their married
the girl can say she's EVERYTHING to the guy (making herself seem to be what he wants) and vice versa

The most unfortunate part about this it seems as though it's rapidly becoming the norm, everyone has got a story.

he was SUCH the gentleman. was an MS, loved by the cong...etc. you just dont know

Recently there was a couple that was moving into the congregation, both very warm loving individuals, both on point spiritually (from the limited vantage point of imperfection)wedding was supposed to be LAST MONTH...then suddenly there's no wedding to speak of. On the positive it's better to find out before taking that final step, because Jehovah hates a divorcing.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

it's just so strange to me why would you pretend to be someone you're not only to get married... either way your life is gonna stink too.. not just the other person's... i mean are 'relations' really worth it haha come on people!!

and i'm just glad that didn't happen to me (hitting) because that guy would not be getting an anullment he would be getting a funeral

YEP I SAID IT!

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

People just don't distinguish between imagining their life with another and accepting that one for who they are w/ the good, bad, & the ugly, VERSES just liking an individual or becoming infatuated with the IDEA of who someone is.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

yeah. some are just in SUCH a hurry to get married that they pretend. not realizing that its a hardship on BOTH. also, some that i've witnessed is the moms tell the girls to "be what he wants until you get that ring then you can change him like i've changed your father" which is OH SO WRONG.

and you are SO right about the divorcing BUT in my experience w/my friends here, if someone that we love is heading the divorce route, we cant tell them they're right or wrong. We can try to encourage what we learn in the scriptures. and we need to keep in mind we dont know whats going on behind closed doors. the only thing is to love both of them and not take sides and be there for both of them as individuals. only jehovahs knows their trials and knows their hearts so we cant say its good or bad.

and kam, i agree w/you on the hitting. any guy would so be busted and dread the day he met me if he laid a hand on me in that way.

coreyfeldman coreyfeldmanOG 2003 ·

"be what he wants until you get that ring then you can change him like i've changed your father" -- I can't believe people say that, that is soo rotten

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

oh yeah. ive heard it a few times and its so annoying. of course i do speak up and give my opinion on how WRONG and horrible that "advice" is.

coreyfeldman coreyfeldmanOG 2003 ·

I watched freedom writers this weekend and the line was used "you don't love me, you love the idea of me"

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

we just found out yesterday...the girl is getting DFed. I feel bad for the guy. Also...they dated for TWO years...wouldn't you stop pretending all that time?? And what's weird, is like...they always fought...like hardcore in front of me & Austin...not just a little tiff..but like..yelling at eachother. Me & Austin even talked to both of them before they got married...saying like...you don't HAVE to go through with this if it doesn't feel right....they should have listened.

I am going to my first foreign language assembly tomorrow-in Italian. I don't know all that much Italian yet so it should be interesting. I am also driving into Brooklyn for the first time ever. Scary.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

So you went to visit my old stomping ground... how was it? My dad was at the assembly, he brought my Grandfather there. Several years ago I dragged Jahanna, Tina and Kim to the Italian assembly. What made you choose the Italian?

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

whaaat? dragged me? lol...who did we go to lunch with that day? your cousin or friend? I remember he was cute. haha

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

It was my sort of my cousin, he is like my 3rd cousin or something like that. It was nice having you girls there... I havent been back to the Italian since than... can you believe that?!

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

I am sicilian. I have been trying to learn so that I can talk to my Nonna and Nonno. Plus, I am "getting to know" someone in the circuit. I got my first Italian Bible and got pretty good at looking up the scriptures by the end of the day, didn't have the guts to sing though.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

The best is commenting for the first time. It's so nerve racking. Whenever I've been to an Italian meeting, I always like to read a scripture as my comment because you don't have to figure out the right grammar and stuff.

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

I can't even imagine commenting at this point. I will definitely go to a meeting though. I had so much fun yesterday.

The weirdest thing was seeing friends from back home in PA who now live in Hartford, Conn. who are learning Italian. The circuit covers a huge area.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

Commenting gets easier down the road... its the real spontaneous answers that get me, unless I have it written down what I want to say, my Italian would come out a grammatical mess....

What is the name of the friends who are now in Hartford from PA?

The circuit includes the 2 congregations in CT, the 1 congregation in NJ, and the 5 congregations in NY. I believe there is still a group that meets in Old Bridge, NJ and in Philly. There is also a new group now in Boston, MA and up in the Wallkill, NY area.

The difference between the Circuit and District assmeblies are the 2 Italian congregations from Chicago.

So which congregation is this person your "getting to know" from? I thought the single youth fountains in the Italian were all dried up...

magnum magnumOG 2001 ·

dried up? darn and i was gonna start hitting them up haha

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

The friends in Hartford are Jared Cutler and his parents, Dave and Diane Nelson. It was so crazy to see them, Dave used to work in my Father's pizza shop and new me as a toddler. It's such a small world.

I saw tons of young people at the assembly. Of course, they might have been younger than they looked. Those Italian girls were all beautiful.

My friend is from a congregation in LI. Something Park. I think it starts with an F. I wouldn't call him a youth though.

I loved the assembly though. I wouldn't do the convention, don't want to go to Canada to understand only a few words...but I would definitely do another assembly or a meeting.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

Jared Cutler? Really? The one who is married and him and his wife are expecting a child?

So there are young ones left in the Italian? Really? WOW... maybe I should pay it another visit. Well, of course the Italian girls were all beautiful, they are Italian ;)

Is your friend from the Florham Park congregation? Now your making me remember all the years and memories I had in the Italian...

This year the District is in Toronto too, they moved it from Montreal...

If you live in Jersey there is a congregation in Ridgefield you can visit.

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

Yeah, he and his wife are expecting in October. It was so weird to see him. The last time I saw him he was probably a teenager and I was maybe 10 years old. We had an assembly part together.

Yeah, the congregation is Florham Park. I couldn't remember the name.

Maybe I'll try visiting Ridgefield. I use my new Italian Bible with my American one now. I can't believe how much I learned from just one day at the assembly. I am feeling very motivated. I love it.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 · toxicgirl

Thats so funny, Jared and Talitha stayed in my basement this past weekend for the assembly. Talitha's parents and my parents are best friends, our families would go away almost every summer... She is like one of my older sisters... Im guessing since you havent seen him in such a long time, you werent at their wedding?

I should get a new Italian Bible and song book. My old song book has drawings all over the back page where everyone is singing (some people here have done the same thing!)...

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 · g.f.s.rocks

No, I wasn't at their wedding. Actually, I didn't realize Jared was married until last year. My friend Sabrina used to go to Florham Park, but moved down to NJ when she got married. She saw him at some gathering and she mentioned me, where I was from and he told her that his family was close to my mine when they lived in PA.

WOW... what a small world

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

I wonder why it is that some nationalities are overall better looking than others. Not that it's a set rule...but for the most part it's true. For example....italians, brazilians, egyptians....beautiful....people from the UK...not so much. (First countries that came to mind)

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 · tesoro

That is so true... you can also include some french, swedish and swiss people. But of course, everyones opinion of beautiful differs. Some people consider beautiful girls ugly and ugly girls beautiful, but I think your statement really applies for the majority of people...

i want to buy a digital camera. I'm looking for something affordable (under $250 or so), compact, probably better than 5 megapixels, good image quality, and fast shooting speed

can anybody recommend anything for me?

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

i'm going to tell you that the $399 on the Canon SD 800IS is probably the best money I've ever spent. The camera's best feature is the image stabilization, for the shaky moments of life. I bought it in January for that price, but you could definitely hunt it down for less now.

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

I'm def gonna agree to stick with the Canon family all three of my cameras (mi dv cam, 35 mm, & my digital) are all Canon and all excellent.
I have the PowerShot A540 w/ 6 mega pixels but, there are a few newer in the same PowerShot line that are similar and more compact. The more compact obviously the more $$$. Picture quality/clarity is great! On the negative one might have to invest in a Li-ion charger + Battery combo.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

We have a canon too, and i think it might be the same version or one like it - the image stabilization is great. Canon does good stuff.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

one annoying thing with some cameras is how it takes forever for it to snap a picture, or sometimes to snap one picture right after the other, it has that annoying delay. how is yours as far as that goes?

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

it's VERY fast, especially to turn on. the pictures during the day are also extremely fast, although they are slower in very low light. I'd say it's worth the trip to best buy to play with the camera if you have any doubts. Also, read some reviews on Amazon.

Three points of warning

1. Do not buy the camera from any online retailer that you don't know. A lot of online photo retailers have awesome prices on cameras, but will call you after you place the order and get you to buy a lot of extra accessories that you don't need. If you don't order the accessories, you won't get the camera and awesome price. My advice is stick to Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City, Dell, etc. Use online coupons to bring the price down.

2. Buy a case ASAP. I've dropped mine in the case a few times, and am very glad for the $10 investment. Get a small generic Logitech case from Circuit City or Best Buy.

3. Get a MASSIVE sd card. I use dealpl.us and spoofee and deals2buy to find good deals on sd cards. I got a 2 gig for like $20. Totally worth it, b/c I have the habit of not bothering to take the pictures off the card ever and also taking movies while we're snowboarding and being stupid.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

awesome, thanks for the great tips! i will try to get out to best buy soon and check it out

that ain't cool. don't pull over for cops, people, EVER! you never know if it's actually carjackers. take this advice and don't blame me when you get involved in a 10 car chase.

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

this is why when an unmarked cop car is trying to pull you over you're supposed to call the dispatcher and ask if it's a real cop, since the cops are supposed to call in the fact of who they're pulling over. if the dispatcher says its not a cop then you just keep driving and they'll send real cops to jack the fake ones.

i was outside today preparing my garden for vegetable growing.. and my cat and my dog were outside walkin around and sometimes playing with each other, and my cat was chasing butterflies and stuff, CUTEST thing ever!! And he's 9 years old so he's like an old man. So this was as cute as watching an old man chasing butterflies. hahaa

and yeah, after a week of antibiotics he finally seems to have recovered from his cold, and his breathing sounds almost normal.. whew..

Man, even if we were allowed to gamble...i just couldn't handle it. I'm bidding on ebay for Cabinet Handles...and I can't take the pressure! It's killing me!!! But look at the exquisite hardware!!! I'd have to pay like $5 bucks a piece in a store!!

ok guys so guess what...i finally did it...i always tell everyone else that they need to trust in jehovah and he will take care of you, so now i'm following my own advice...i quit my job that i was at for 7 yrs and got a part time job and i start pioneering in june. i'm so excited and have never been so happy about a decision.

iwz iwz ·

good for you, mandie! that's awesome!

i've been wanting to do this since before we got married..so we are just doing it..cut back on spending, make some sacrifices and i'm there. i'm so excited.

did you say something? all i heard was "blah blah blah blah" :)

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

btw i didn't mean that YOU had to think it over, at all, it already sounded like it was a well thought out decision and definitely a very exciting and GOOD one!

i just thought it was important to say that it was not a rash decision, haha, tha'ts all!

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

nice. congrats!!! and it sounds like it was a decision you've thought about for a long time and that required quite a bit of planning - "count the costs" before you build that tower type of thing.

I think it's important to say that, probably, making a rash decision like that would not be a good idea. Otherwise you'd have a lot of homeless pioneers, hehe. Jehovah provides, of course, but he also does not want anyone to make crazy rash decisions and just sit there saying, come on, pay my bills. ya know what i mean?

mandie mandieOG 2001 ·

thanks..yeah it has been something that we have been talking about for awhile..so we cut down on alot of things, got rid of my credit card and prayed about it alot..and looking back now i see how jehovah helped me to get to this point. i wish i would have done this alot sooner!!

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yep when you work towards a goal like that it always turns out successful, you're gonna do great!! :)

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

this reminds me of a song... (pay my bills, pay my bills..)

Grats to you, Mandie. I'm very proud of you! You'll be a terrific pioneer, and Jehovah will bless your efforts.

What's the explanation for a computer monitor that keeps blinking on and off... sometimes when blinking off, staying off for a prolonged amount of time? Who knows what someone did to this computer a few days ago. I'm so angry.

R
rocksupastarFounder ·

loose video cable or power cable? Weird screen saver settings set to like 1 min standby mode or something?

iwz iwz ·

if it's not one of these, you have bigger problems.. might need a new video card or monitor.

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

I've tried a different monitor and same thing happens. So, new video card might be the answer? hmmm. I'm actually trying to type stuff in between blinks. ugggh so annoying.

iwz iwz ·

Was it a different video and power cable too?

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

I've tried different video and power cables as well, yeh. Also have tried different outlts.

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

The screen doesn't just go black. It's goes black, plus doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in. Because when the screen is in use the led light goes green... when not in use, but plugged into power, the light is orange. When the monitor goes black tho, the led light doesn't light up orange... the led light goes out as well, with the monitor.

R
rocksupastarFounder ·

sounds like power issue. You plugged directly into the outlet? or into a power strip? Bypass the strip if ur plugged into that. If you use a power cable that you can replace, try unplugging the desktop power cable and replace the monitors old one with that. See if its the cable or not.

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

I've tried both directly into an outlet and into a power strip. I've also tried different cables and tried different monitors. Has to be something about the computer, no?

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

When I switch the power plug to differents outlets, the monitor will immediately turn on again... then eventually goes black and powerless, then eventually I'll switch to a different outlet, and it will work again for a little while, then go out again. And the process repeats and repeats. Explain that mystery. Weird, no? This things driving me nuts. And I don't feel like going on the phone with Dell for 5 hours for them to just keep telling me... Hold on sir, while I direct you're call to someone else.

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

Nope. Definately not those things.

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

After troubleshooting until 3am, with every imaginable variable... turns out to be a monitor issue after all. For some reason, a different monitor wasn't working when tried the first time tho... & now is. So, hopefully I can get a brand new monitor no cost, 'cause this backup one has seen better days itself.
