There was a bit of a dog dialogue in the office today boss lost her dog of 13 years =( I found out that larger dogs don't live as long as the little ones makes me want a little one even more. Hope when I get where I'm going pets are allowed (fish, birds, cats need NOT apply). Don't get me wrong, I luv ALL animals but a dog is a pet pet =)

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

animals are so funny & can be so human like.

Yesterday, I took Atlas to the local pet store to get his nails trimmed & the store owners had two big cats that were literally stalking Atlas & trying to attack him! It was so weird, cuz Atlas was growling ferociously and could have destroyed them, but the cats were relentless. so funny.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

for the record, pwnin' noobs does NOT make you a people pwner in REAL life. video games DO NOT create killers. HOWEVER, there are disturbed people who are predisposed to violence and don't have a grasp on reality and acceptable social behavior. i can see how these people can derive a very different and unacceptable pleasure from violence in games, almost treating it like a violence simulator, one where the lines of freedom and technology in games are blurred unrecognizably into sick, demented, potential real life situations. i DO think that some games that are out there today shouldn't have been made in the first place.

it's a really tough topic.

brothermanOG 2004 ·

Someone explain to me the point of showing the VA Tech killers video? Looks to me it was revealed for entertainment factor. Makes me sick to my stomach...

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

There was a psychiatrist on Good Morning America that shot down the networks for showing it. I don't blame him. Kids don't need to see that.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

I dont see what the big deal is? I mean, its a reality, it happend, you cant change that now. The kids see much worse on the news, in movies or on TV. I understand that it's more personal to them, but because of this crazy man, other people can now see potential signs of another crazy person. This could help prevent another future attack if possible. It just proves that this world is near its end...

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah, but I think they should limit it to just talking about it. Showing a psycho rant in a video is the same as showing a kid a movie about a serial killer that is graphic. At least thats the way I see it. Up until now, I can't remember seeing footage like this shown on network TV. But yeah, just echoes how close the end is.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i don't know about there but here we've always been exposed to things like that on the news. I can see your point tho. they do show WAY too much & they live for exposing someone else's misfortunes and its sad.

BUT in their defense, they do let the viewers know how graphic etc the images will be so its up to the parents to change the channel or turn off the TV.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah. I just can't remember anything recently like that. I was shocked they put it on.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i was like in high school still, i think, when they were showing this standoff and the guy turned and shot himself....live on the news.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Well, that you can't forsee. They knew what they had with this footage. That's kind of like during the WTC coverage. They had no idea the buildings would fall or that people would jump out windows.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

When I was in college there was a crazy kid who shot his head off with a shotgun in the parking lot in-between two dorms so that everyone could see... he started screaming his ex-girlfriends name outside the dorm, wanting to go inside and when that didnt work he went outside and started screaming again in a way that he drew so much attention that he looked up at her while she was watching out the window and he blew his head off... The sound of the shotgun was heard campus wide... and all the students who heard it ran to the scene... It was probably one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen, but it is a reality, it happens, it wasnt a movie or a show or a game. The only way to get over it is to realize what happend. And to learn from it. Of course it was more dramatic for everyone who watched the whole scene and the poor ex-girlfriend was so dramatized that she dropped out of college and no one really heard from her again...

iwz iwz · g.f.s.rocks

I think brotherman's beef is that, while of course these things happen in the world and can't be avoided, he doesn't want his kids to be exposed to these things needlessly.

I can see where he's coming from; you could easily say that the media is glorifying him by showing the stuff. Does the general public need to see his manifesto and video tapes? What do we gain from it?

It's like when they show Al Qaeda or Bin Laden tapes on the news. It may be interesting to some, and certainly help ratings, but if I had children, I don't see any reason why I would want them to see that sort of thing.

R
rocksupastarFounder · iwz

ooh totally i think that they are glorifying it and posting all the "bad" or "scary" pics to get people to check it out.

I feel bad for this kid, he obviously had ALOT of issues, he didnt even really say what he was upset about... just a buncha weird ramblings.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder · rocksupastar

yeah the kid was obviously sick and in need of help that he didn't get

R
rocksupastarFounder · g.f.s.rocks

wait wait wait... ok, so i looked at the news coverage. How is this disturbing? I mean yes, the guy is obviously crazy, but he doesnt SAY anything thats particularly disturbing or DO anything that horrible.

Should little kids follow this coverage? I dont see why they should, there isnt anything in that footage that they can learn from. I think this will def put a scare in everyones minds of how serious mental illness is and how lax some of the schools are with providing care for those that need it.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 · rocksupastar

it's not disturbing, but i don't think kids need to see it over and over either. the only problem i have with it is the copycat factor. by showing this loser's "manifesto," by giving him so much air-time, by making him a rockstar, you're showing that if you kill people you'll get on TV, you'll get noticed, your case will be scrutinized, and everyone will talk about you after you've killed yourself. mentally ill people love the sound of that, especially if they have something they think needs to be said.

now, i wouldn't call this thing he did a manifesto. he sent out a press kit! he didn't single out anyone or any institution. he didn't attack anyone in particular. he rambled on and on about hate of rich kids and religion and then he shot up a bunch of students. that's not a statement. his reality was swapped for a fantasy world where he was this hated, tormented figure. still everyone has all this psychological reasoning and blah blah blah. whatever happened to plain crazy? today, i mourn the death of "crazy" in america.

"Like, so, ok. The surgeon general says there's too much violence in movies, and that should stop. But even if you took all the violence out of shows, you could still watch the news. oh really? awesome! i LOVE ancient egypt stuff. The mummies section was always my fav at the Met.

I actually got to go to the Egyptian Museum in Torino, Italy. It's said to have the most artifacts outside of Cairo. (I totally forgot I went there, til right now)

coreyfeldman coreyfeldmanOG 2003 ·

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Did anyone get to stay home from work today? There's states of emergency in NJ & CT, which means no one but emergency vehicles are supposed to be on the road. Day off!!!

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

wow, glad we missed most of that out in Pittsburgh area. hopefully our drive home today isn't terrible :/

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

22 is closed, FYI. But you're probably taking 78 to 80, huh? It's actually really nasty out here.

iwz iwz ·

We're about an hour north of Pittsburgh. 80 East the whole way. It can get pretty bad up in the mountains. We'll see how it goes

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Be careful! I had a client come down from there earlier this morning and he said it was crawling the whole way. I'm sure it'll be better this afternoon, but still, drive safely!

coreyfeldman coreyfeldmanOG 2003 ·

Watch yourself, there were some roads closed up in that area this morning

iwz iwz ·

so we drove through lots of rain, and lots of snow, but the roads were fine, and traffic was light.

we made it home in record time, actually. not bad overall.

the delaware river is so high! there were waterfalls all through the del. water gap. it was like Hawaii haha

theremin thereminOG 2002 ·

I had off! Sure hope I get paid for today tho!

iwz iwz ·

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

I hate when that happens. especially when it's my monkeys.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

somebody posted it a few weeks ago, it was a video of the tiger cub and baby monkey at the zoo, then they edited it to make it look like the tiger cub bit off the monkey's head
