last night i was playing some mario party 8 with my friend beans. I am incredibly competitive so i put us on the same team. we got put on a boat where we had to each row the wii-mote at the same time, but only one of us rowed if we need to steer. it was cool and took us 5 tries to get it down

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

Yeah so.. why does this happen?!??!!? We are going away for the convention.. and I'm like freaking out about leaving my animals. I do this for other people all the time.. i KNOW the animals are going to be fine, I know they don't even remember that they were left alone the moment you come home - but yet I am leaving like a ridiculous amount of instructions for the dog walker. Ugh. I'm so annoying right now I'm one of THOSE people!!! haha

we're seriously going to get one soon in OC: *its making its way down the SoCal faultline:

--An earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area early Thursday, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck just before 1 a.m. about 4 miles from Chatsworth. Three small aftershocks followed the quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A magnitude-1.6 temblor struck at 1:14 a.m., one of the same magnitude at 1:49 a.m., and one measuring 1.8 at 2:49 a.m. -- all within three miles of the initial quake's epicenter, according to the USGS.

The quick jolt was felt by residents across Los Angeles County and knocked items off shelves and walls in some homes. One man told a radio station that his home-office had been "thrashed."

Shaking was reported from as far away as Marina Del Rey, Lancaster, downtown Los Angeles, Simi Valley and Oxnard.

he Cheapest Days to Buy Certain Items

by Kelli B. Grant
Friday, July 13, 2007

Another day, another deal.

Thanks to online coupons, price-comparison search engines and reward memberships, savvy shoppers can pay less than full price on any day that ends in "y." But depending on what you're planning to buy, some days of the week may yield better bargains than others.

We talked to the experts, and narrowed down the best days of the week to buy certain items.

Airplane Tickets
When to Buy: Wednesday morning.
Why: "Most airfare sales are thrown out there on the weekend," says travel expert Peter Greenberg, a.k.a. The Travel Detective. Other airlines then jump into the game, discounting their own fares and prompting further changes by the first airline. The fares reach their lowest prices late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Books
When to Buy: Thursday.
Why: Price compare between major chains Borders and Barnes & Noble. The former releases its weekly sales and coupons on every Thursday; the latter, every Tuesday.

Cars
When to Buy: Monday.
Why: "Car dealers live for the weekend, which is when they make most of their sales," says Phil Reed, consumer advice editor for Edmunds.com. "On Mondays, the low foot traffic makes it seem like the weekend will never come." That dealer desperation, paired with fewer consumers on the lot, give you more negotiating power.

Clothing
When to Buy: Thursday evening.
Why: That's the day when stores stock their shelves for the weekend, and when many retailers - including Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Express - start their weekend promotions, says Kathryn Finney, author of "How to Be a Budget Fashionista." You'll find great prices and the best selection. "It's an effort to get people to shop in the middle of the week," she says.

Department-Store Wares
When to Buy: Saturday evening.
Why: Department stores have a lot to mark down for their Sunday circulars, so they frequently start the process on Saturday evenings before store closing, says Finney. "They're preparing for the big rush," she says. Bonus: Even if the markdowns haven't been made, many employees will honor the sale price if you ask. Print out the circular preview from the store's web site, and bring it with you when you head to the mall.

Dinner Out
When to Buy: Tuesday.
Why: Most restaurants do not receive food deliveries over the weekend. "Sunday is the garbage-can day of the week," says Kate Krader, senior editor at Food & Wine magazine. "No doubt, they're cleaning out their fridges. Tuesdays, they're starting fresh." Dining out on that day offers the best odds you'll get a meal worth paying for, no matter your price point, she says.

Entertainment
When to Buy: Wednesday.
Why: Plenty of movie theaters, amusement parks and museums offer extra discounts to consumers who visit midweek. Six Flags theme parks offer a $12 discount to AAA members - three times its usual discount of $4. AMC Theatres offers members in its free AMC Movie Watcher reward program a free small popcorn on Wednesdays. (This summer, it's also the day select theaters offer free Summer Movie Camp screenings.)

Gas
When to Buy: Thursday, before 10 a.m.
Why: The price of oil isn't the only factor influencing costs at your local pump. Consumer usage plays a role, too - and weekend demand is high, says Jason Toews, co-founder of GasBuddy.com, a price-monitoring site. Prices usually swing upward on Thursdays as travelers fuel up to head out the following day. By hitting the pump before 10 a.m. (when many station owners change their prices), you'll beat the rush and the price jump.

Groceries
When to Buy: Sunday - or Tuesday.
Why: Maximize savings by combining store sales, which run from Wednesday to Tuesday, with the latest round of coupons from your Sunday paper, says Mary Hunt, publisher of Debt-Proof Living, a money-saving newsletter. "It's a smart idea to wait until you have those in hand to match up with the week's sale items," she says.

To snag savings on items you don't need just yet, shop on Tuesday, advises Hunt. Chances are, the store will have run out of the sale items. "That means you can pick up rain checks, which allow you to buy those items later when you need them, and at the sale price," she says.

Hotel Rooms
When to Buy: Sunday.
Why: There are two kinds of hotel managers, and the kind that won't give you a discount on your room rate has Sundays off, says Greenberg. Call the hotel directly, and ask to speak with the manager on duty or the director of sales. These employees are open to negotiation, he says. They'd rather have a booked room at a discounted rate than an empty room. (The rest of the week, your call would get you a so-called revenue manager, who monitors profits - and is rarely willing to lower rates.)

So this is weird - I got a call from a staffing company who said they have a legal job I might be good for. Cool. The lady asked me to explain my computer skills and then my legal skills, so I did. I asked her about the job, and she proceeded to explain that it's for an engineering company who basically want someone to create and administer a database for the next month or so until they're finished with a large project. Ok, I mention I've done Access databases, and she schedules me for an interview tomorrow morning.

I called Donovan and told him about it, and he wondered if they wanted someone to do sql scripting. Now I wonder that too. Why would the woman tell me she has a legal job and then tell me it's for an engineering firm? I don't want to build myself up at the interview and then realize if I get the job that I have no idea how to do it. Very odd. And while I was on the phone with her, my toilet broke. :\

katiedid katiedidFounder ·

at least you're smart enough to see through it. Some people are lied to for years before they figure it out.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

oh i can see RIGHT through people when they are lying. you know....RIGHT THROUGH them.

i just feel sorry for the ones that dont and believe every single little lie they tell to cover up. some people are really good at making themselves look so sweet and innocent....let me tell you.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

some people get away with it for years and years unfortunately.. sometimes i wonder if some people will ever be found out..

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

oh, they will be. i've seen some stuff go on for YEARS, and you think they'll always get away with it, but then, BAM! found out.

A while back i posted about this couple that we used to hang out with that would always be so self-righteous around us, like "look at us, we're auxillary pioneering, i'm an attendant, blah blah blah" (And i never rub stuff like that in people's faces)

well....yea, they were only married for 6 months and are now divorced and both are DFed.

I mean, of course it's a sad situation, but it just goes to show all the showing off and lying gets you no where, and you WILL eventually be accountable.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

it doesnt seem like it, but they eventually will be found out. they leave little trails. lying is exhausting ya know. so they eventually slip here and there and the biggest....jehovah doesn't let it go unnoticed.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

Liars and selfish people... people who use other people to get what they want and they deny that they do it, but its so visibile to the people who actually see whats going on...

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

but sometimes they make themselves seem so innocent, even running to the elders w/certain issues to cover their own lies up to make it look bad on others. making themselves seem so sweet an innocent in front of the elders and others. THAT aggrivates me. i mean i know they'll be made known, in a big way, jehovah has his time. but i want it to be known NOW!!! i want this chick exposed! LOL

*yes im impatient! lol

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

haha not at all...maybe thats why she's so messed up? HMMMM...lol

katiedid katiedidFounder ·

is she in your hall? the worst is when you've got beef with someone who is and then you pretend to others that everything's fine but really you're just trying not to cry (or fantasizing about running them over with your car). lol. Hope things work out for you asap!

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

why would you need to pretend? thats almost like lying yourself.

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder ·

While lying is wrong, we should still try to be peaceable, and sometimes that requires a lot of self-control. We wouldn't want to NOT hold back, just because we feel we aren't being honest about how we feel. We should hold back, we should restrain ourselves if we are mad or annoyed with someone, and pray for self control, and try to resolve the problem according to the way that we've been taught to do so. (preachy, sorry. I just didn't like the vibe I got from this comment)

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

think about it, if you dont have the guts to tell this person you cant "pretend" to be nice to them face to face. what does the bible say, you must confront. jehovah hates a hypocrite, right?

im not talking about being rude, or making it known we have a beef w/this person. as with everything we are peaceable to all. BUT that doesnt mean it gives us the right to be a hypocrite and be nice to the person and "pretend" and then once their back is turned we act like the world and talk about them.

A
alexOG 2001 ·

you're talking about them right now.

have you guys ever noticed that people of different age groups have different hand writing. like, people my age and under have like bubble-like writing. and people that are older always have like, more sophisticated sort of cursive writing? (mostly women, i'm talking about)

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

ever type something out, and realize you only make sense to yourself?

iwz iwz ·

cursive is dying. i'm surprised they even teach it anymore. typing is edging on being a more important skill than writing, these days.

my point: handwriting is for the birds

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

actually, that's not true, you need to have good handwriting to take notes at the district convention. You need to be able to read those notes later when your hall has a part on the meeting about the previous convention.

I think sometimes "why can't we just have laptops at the convention so I can type all this" and then i realize that would just be a ridiculous, absolute nightmare of epic proportions

coreyfeldman coreyfeldmanOG 2003 ·

at our convention people sat up in the sky boxes and typed on their laptops. it seemed a little weird to me, but I think our CO even had his laptop out, I figured that was for something important.

Then again those might have been brothers with assignments.

R
rocksupastarFounder ·

what about taking notes on a palm in short hand?

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

that's way, WAY too much work. have you ever used Graffiti extensively? it's hard enough just doing it for names

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Donovan does that, mainly because he doodles if he's got paper. :) But he only writes down like 10 sentences of main points for each talk and I look up the scriptures for him. Plus he always compares his notes to mine when we have the review talk, because he writes so sparsely. His palm also uses graffitti 2, which is more like everyday characters.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I'd think it would be distracting to everyone else around to take notes that way - they were probably working on something. Plus, having taken notes of work-relating and RBC meetings, if you're typing what someone's saying, you really can't get the point. I type like 80 wpm and I was getting frustrated trying to keep up.

R

i hate note taking, but if i could have a laptop i def could keep up... thats easy.

I am absolutely obsessed with stores like Ross, TjMaxx, Marshalls. Yesterday, I got a pretty cami to sleep in, for $6, when I got home I saw the original tag by OnGossamer....$78 bucks. How cool is that? people spent $78 bucks on the same item i spent $6 on. Love it.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i love those stores and the discounts...w/o a doubt. the only reason i stay away...i hate digging through things. i like to walk up, see something on a rounder and grab it and try it on. when we have our sample sales here, everything is like $5 but you have to dig. i walk around and grab a coat or 2 and am over it.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

see, that's whats so cool around here. i always tell people from NY that we have such great shopping here, because our discount stores are treated like department stores. They're extremely neat and organized, and we have a ton of them.

see they're not organized here. not at all. im flying out w/you to do some shopping there! LOL

yea, that's the same way it was in NY. They were so filthy and clothes on the floor and gross, i would never go in em.

Superhero, how was your rafting trip?! Ours was great but I don't think I've ever had so many bruises on my arms and legs at one time. One hour in at the calmest part we hit a rock and I go flying out. But what I can't get out of my head is Livy's reaction. Every time I think of her scream I can't stop laughing!! She was so worried for me so the rest of the time I managed to fall INTO the raft lol.

oh it was awesome. we went to upstate NY, near port Jervis. We actually spent most of the time floating in the river, more than being in the raft. Got some good pictures, and had a lot of fun. I was REALLY sore the next day though from rowing like a fiend.
