Thank you everyone for your help, and Ian for your amazing research. I should be receiving my dsl stuff soon (router and all) so we'll see what's up with that soon. I'm not sure that the router...

Hmm, my computer is faster than my dad's so I was thinking of hooking mine directly to the router, and he could get the wireless.... I forgot that I had been thinking about that, too

So which is more practical? I have 4 usb slots, and 1 taken. I have room for a PCI card. My dad's computer...well, let's just say that might be a different deal. I'm going to get him a 802.11B ...

Jun 28, 2004

I just found this article on the whole deal. http://www.everythingusb.com/forums/showthread.php?s=cae738e54f5ba5685d20accaa029a254&threadid=2596

Wait this is more accurate: "With up to 130 MB/s transfer rate in both directions the same basic performance is provided on a notebook as a PCI card would offer on a desktop computer." Taken ...

Even with the slowest PCI (if I'm reading this correctly) is way faster than USB, though less portable. PCI transfer rates: http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20040514/e7505-chipsatz-03.html

Jun 28, 2004

USB 2.0 can transfer data at the rate of 400 Mbps (that is approximately 50 MB/s). Which means I should probably get the PCI card, unless that transfer rate is lower.

Jun 28, 2004

well, just how fast can a USB port transfer data?

Jun 28, 2004

they only have 20 publishers! Isn't that WEIRRRRRRRRRRRD? (actually they have like 90+ publishers, and over 5 regular pioneers)

Jun 28, 2004

is it just as fast as the PCI card? (assuming that the USB card and PCI card are both 802.11g)

Jun 28, 2004

oh man, that is horrible, I'm so sorry. When terrible things like this happen, they always remind me to keep working hard to fight worldly tendencies, and sinful old personality traits. That wa...

Really you can't beat keyboard and mouse in any aspect of the game. In general targeting and movement becomes so much easier and more defined. I'm personally not great with analog controllers.

Jun 28, 2004

well, I watch Fox for 24, and the Simpsons. I watch NBC more often for Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien

Jun 28, 2004

technically I forgot a whole lot of places...and I've never been to Mount Hood, Oregon. Of course, I've never been to Columbus, Ohio to snowboard, either, but I'm sure it's not as good as Whistler.
