For reals! YES

What's up homies. It seems like some of you out there are still using Internet Explorer. You reaally reaaaally need to switch over to Firefox www.getfirefox.com. It's a much safer browser to use, and it has TABS for great justice! Seriously, I want to see the 49% of you that are on IE switch over to Firefox by next week. Fersure.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen the few pictures I took of Brandon and Jamie's wedding, here's the link:
http://picasaweb.google.com/ianzabel/BrandonAndJamieSWeddingSeptember4th2006

I probably won't be putting these up in the eZabel Pictures section anytime soon, so that's all you're getting from me.

Well, despite the fact that some people may not want to hear about it, I just thought I'd let you all know I had a GREAT first week at work. There are at least 2 other Witnesses where I work, and the people are really nice. I like the job, and I'm really excited about it.
And in other news, Arizona DOES suck....well, at least the wildlife...yet again. Except THIS time, it almost got me, no joke. A HUUUUGE tarantula was right NEXT TO the doorknob of my front door today when I went to unlock it, and I wasn't paying attention, and literally almost put my hand ON the tarantula. I screamed, it freaked out and jumped down, almost landing on my foot, and started running all over the place. It wound up sitting in FRONT of my door....leaving me no way to get inside my house.

I hate this place sometimes.

So, big news. I'm scrapping the event planning idea. Long story short, it's something I think I'd enjoy more, just doing as a "side job" of sorts. Full time in that career would be super stressful, and take me away from my family, and meetings, way more than I'd like. I'm still gonna do it for friends who ask, but that's about it. So there.....big news of the day.

iwz iwz ·

Well, sounds like a good decision, then. Much respect!

What are your plans then?

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

I'm still trying to decide between a couple things, nursing being one of them. Working in a hospital environment will quickly help me decide if that's the route I want to take, that's for sure, hahaha.
There's other things I'm thinking of...I just have to make sure no part of them compromises my beliefs, you know? So I'm doing a lot of research right now, just trying to take the time to figure out what I want to do.

can we eat spinach again yet?

deanh77 deanh77Founder ·

ian, can you maybe make it optional for a new thread to show up on the front page?

on a related note, I'm at the www.springforward2006.com conference. it's pretty sweet. just heard a talk from some of the EJB 3.0 developers on the new Java Persistence API, and another one on transparent object clustering from the guys at www.terracottatech.com . However I have realized I'm a laptop snob. good thing noone showed up with the 17-inch version of the MacBook Pro or I'd be humiliated.

iwz iwz ·

Yeah, I'll add that option in soon. I'm just super busy right now.

send me a patch! :P

iwz iwz ·

Java Persistence API sounds pretty cool. Seems like they're taking a lot of good ideas from Hibernate and similar tools. How does JPA relate to EJB?

G
gizmoEst. 2006 ·

I thought EJBs *were* the Sun answer to persistance? Why do they feel the need to have another API?

iwz iwz ·

because it turned out that EJBs sucked. the open source community came up with much better alternatives. and EJB 3.0 is pretty much a complete overhaul of the API.

yay yayOG 2004 ·

.NET is sun's answer to java

deanh77 deanh77Founder ·

*Entity* EJBs were the "Sun answer to persistance". But no one in their right mind would use them, way to messy. So that's why they came out with EJB 3.0 I guess, but I don't know if EJB 3.0 is any better.

EJBs in general should be avoided if at all possible.

deanh77 deanh77Founder ·

EJB 3.0 uses JPA for entity persistence/ORM. like a total rework of the whole Entity Bean stuff. Now they are just breaking it out into its own seperate API so you can use it outside of EJBs

I don't know if I'd ever use it, but it was interesting. using annotations like @OneToMany makes me think it wants to be ActiveRecord :)

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I made it back from vacation! California was awesome. Totally better than NJ. :)

It's crazy, but I'm actually glad to be back in my old work-meeting-home-service routine again. I guess that's a testament to the fact that I really needed a vacation, because before we left, I wanted to punch all my co-workers and just stay home under my covers.

I thought some of my co-workers might have sticky fingers while I was gone, so I hid all my pens, stapler and tape dispenser. However, someone took my mouse extension chord if you can believe that. I sent a note around asking who took it, and everyone responded: "What's a mouse extension chord?" so I think the computer guy must have seen it and thought it belonged to the firm, but it doesn't - it's mine. Strange thing to lose while away, huh?

But happier thoughts: The inn where we stayed in Napa was amazing. It was the most comfortable night I've spent not at home ever. And the town was adorable - like 2 square miles with 5 fantastic french restaurants all in blocks of each other. We walked to dinner each night through this little rose garden in the center of town.... ahhh... it was wonderful.

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·
