juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

so, the temp job i have now, is like the best office experience i've had in a while, the main boss is super nice (and i keep expecting him to turn evil like my old boss) and other than him the whole office is 6 people, and everyone is nice and laid back and there has not been any drama or anything negative in the month and a half i've been here

now that i said that, i'm gonna start hating it here like in two minutes and some drama will occur by the end of the day haha

mandie mandieOG 2001 ·

B

I just sent an email to the Hackettstown school system ripping them apart for what they have done to Emily. It took them 2 months to situate her in a new school since they put her on leave for her behavior. Makes me want to move out of NJ even more.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

why did they change her schools? dont they have special classes for her to help with her situation?

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Since Hatchery Hill School in H-town is small, they disbanded the class she would have been in after last year. Not enough kids to support it. They won't keep a class for one child. So they threw her in a class with kids that had physical disabilites and other issues. Big mistake right there. So they found a school in Franklin Township in Warren County, NJ that had the proper program. It took them 2 months to resolve this. And...The aftercare program won't take her back because of her past issues. I'm extremely PO'ed today. Now I don't know where she'll be after school yet. The school system should be ashamed of themselves doing this to a single parent family.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

oh wow, im sorry hun. do you not have relatives that can take care of her after school? or are there any sisters who have day care in their home?

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

One sister helps me out. I need to talk to her.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

so last night we got some really exciting/interesting news. and i say interesting because it had to do with my cousin...one of the biggest drug dealers in CA, biggest gang banger etc. this guy has been in and out of prison/jail/juvie since he was 12. its his life. anyway, we've always been warned to stay away from him even if we saw him in passing. he was just full of rage and would kill anyone in his way. so now he's serving a life term in prison w/o parole. anyway, we get a call last night from his mom (who is our cousin also) and she tells us that he's getting baptized in prison this month. YES we were ALL shocked but SO stoked at the same time. im still shocked. lol

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Wow. Would your family go visit him now?

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i dont think so, the prison he is in is somewhere in arizona.

So our ISP at work was down all day yesterday, and from 12:30 until sometime last night, our entire server was down, so we couldn't do any work. (I have no idea why we couldn't use our machines separate from the network, but whatev) So suffice it to say, I know my co-workers a lot better now because we were all just chatting for 5 hours yesterday. I'm disappointed that the server is up and running today. :(

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

why didnt they send you home? or was it one of those "we'll have it up in running in 2 hours" then 2 becomes 3 and so on?

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I think at first, they thought it wouldn't be a problem for that long (the comp guy just told someone he was actually in our office until 10:30 last night). But at like 4:00, the office manager asked the managing partner attorney if we could leave, and he told her 'No, because we'll lose too much money.' It's not like any of us were productive anyway, so all the girls were hating on that attorney yesterday! :P

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i guess misery loves company. lol

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

the word misery sounds like such a powerful word...so much more so than unhappiness or grief.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

:P I think we all know a little more about each other, having gossiped for such a long time. Is it bad that it's nice to listen to gossip at work, where none of the people are in my congregation and I don't have to worry about hurting anyone's feelings?

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

You love to hurt my feelings. I've been crying for days. Boo hoo hoo.... :oP

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

at our assembly, it was saying how listening to gossip is as bad as repeating it. with me, i am really good with the repeating part...i never talk about stuff i know...but i find it VERY difficult not to listen to it. :-X

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

True, true.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i dont think its bad...just dont share what they tell you ya know. thats what i do with the girls here. the come to gossip with me but they know i dont share others drama or their own.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Yeah, totally. It's actually nice to share stuff all the sisters at my hall tell me that I can't tell Donovan. I can finally get it off my chest to the girls at work, since it'll never get back the hall, ya know? It's like posting stuff on here about people at work - they'll never find out, so it's almost therapeutic.

For this very reason I was contemplating whether I'm getting my trim w/ my deep condition this weekend. I hope it's something you can still work with, you're beautiful anyway you can rock any style =)

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

I don't trust any stylist. And it seems that whenever you are trying to grow your hair long they cut too much off. I need to trim my ends but I am afraid. I am thinking about extensions...how great it would be to have my hair curly and half-way down my back again without all this trouble.

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 ·

you girls need to find some gay men to do your hair. seriously, i found they are the best stylists.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i am fortunate tho, my cousin is my stylist....but it is true, males do make better stylists AND make-up artists. they are able to see YOU as a person. female stylists/make-up artists tend to see themselves...like what they like w/a twist of you.

we're looking for a designer (accessories)and one resume we got is SO awesome, we're all wanting to meet this guy, i wanted to post his introduction letter but didnt know how fitting it would be, so im posting sections...here's his opening (oh and he talks of himself in third person):

***** resembles that of a pirate residing in the Wild West, who one day dreams of ridding motorcycles. He is a ?’?”, 220 lbs slice of Tom Selleck with a personality that is like two scoops of pralines & cream. He was born and raised in San Diego, California sustaining on coffee and inhaling aerosol paint fumes

Today, ***** voice still sounds the same, but now he uses bigger words (metaphorically speaking, of course). He currently does what he fell in love with, which was a design/art career. He has no particular style to his work; he just loves the idea of creation and the process that his work is created

***** doesn’t believe in future goals because he lives in the now and the future holds many uncertainties. So he will continue to do what he loves and hopes to acquire a harem of beautiful virgins wearing nikes to throw fresh cut roses wherever he walks.

We've been worknig on cleaning out old stuff and clutter. So apparently I had this stack of notebooks from when I was like, 8,9, maybe 10 years old. And they were my story notebooks. All these crazy stories with drawings of fantastical creatures and places and things. I really need to scan them in. I am gonna sit down and read them sometime this week. They are all in Polish and the sad part is that I am probably not gonna understand all the words.

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

This one story is apparently about a girl living through World War I and there is a drawing of war planes dropping bombs on houses and on another page, a graveyard, a grave stone with a name and date, and a picture of a little girl crying.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

that is so neat. i hate clutter and i'm constantly cleaning out drawers/closets....but that is one thing i can't get rid of...all my old school books/journals. its cool to see how much you have changed.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah it was so funny i also found this "time capsule" that me, my sister and a friend of ours created

and one of the things i said was that i'm not having kids

haha back in 1996.. a wee lass of 17.. and not even close to marriage.. I already knew. lol.

that is fun stuff though I have so many journals and stuff that I have kept, i'm never getting rid of that stuff

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

I know we've discussed wedding/party favors on here before. We're having an office baby shower for one of the girls here next week, and one girl is responsible for favors. She told me yesterday that she went to three different craft stores looking for lace and tiny "victorian" hats to use as favors. She said, 'I hate those favors with candy - what's the point? No one eats the candy.' I said that I'd never met a piece of candy that I didn't like, and that I hate those knick-knack favors that you only throw out anyway. She didn't say anything. Today, I just heard her complaining to someone else how hard it is to make the favors. I don't get it - if it's hard, don't do it! It's not like she's a bridesmaid in a wedding; it's just an office party. And I like candy in favors!

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

haha i love your response to her. i dont like the favors w/o candy either cause you DO throw them away.

bad news :( Hidden in Plain View broke up. But, Rob Freeman has already formed a new band called The Pilot.

Friday night I went to see a very young local band, p.r.y.d.e., as well as The Pilot at a cafe in Netcong. Nice place and great sound but walking in I quickly realized I was 10 years older than most of the kids there. So weird since I didn't ever think about that happening. It was really funny to see all the younger girls getting their picture taken with Rob and giggling over his presence.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

ok guys, i have a question...would you go to a barber to shave you? we grabbed lunch today in this little center and there was this barber shop and we walked by and we saw the barber shaving this man and it was weird it looked like he was going to slit the guy all over. i would be scared.

Glad you're okay hunny...I ran out to the store and picked up a few things then stopped to pick up my dinner around the corner, it just started snowing around 5 ish here but, my girl Nikki says it's been snowing down there since like 2 already accumulating. I guess they're predicting 4-8 up here, my job is so ridiculous though, they won't close lol.

Stay warm, and drive safely if you have to go back out at all =)

Seventy-five years. That's how much time you get if you're lucky. Seventy-five years. Seventy-five Winters. Seventy-five Springtimes. Seventy-five Summers. And Seventy-five Autumns. When you look at it like that, it's not a lot of time, is it? Don't waste them. Get your head out of the rat race and forget about the superficial things that pre-occupy your existence and get back to what's important now. Right Now. This very second. And I'm not saying, drop everything and let the world come to a grinding halt. I'm saying that you could become a seeker. You could be loving more. You could be taking some chances. You could be living more. You could be spending more time with your family. You could be getting in touch with the part of you that lives instead of fears; the part of you that loves instead of hates; the part of you that recognizes the humanity in all of us. And I tell you, That's where you're fortunate.

English major question:

When you're citing a specific paragraph in a document, do you cite:

a. Reference, p. 7, ¶ 9; or
b. Reference, ¶ 9, p. 7

One of the attorneys and I are having a battle of wills.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

i don't know what is correct, but option "a" seems more logical

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

That's what I think too. College was too long ago for me to remember bibliographies!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

This isn't actually an English Major question because we strictly follow MLA format for citations and different subject areas follow different citation guidelines (and which to put first would be one of those small, stupid things that change from guideline set to set). However, logistically, I would say "a" is the better option as you would be following the pattern of other citations (such as for plays you would cite Act, scene, then line).

Did you look to see how the Watchtower (or any of the society's publications) does it when they reference something specific?

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·

Hmm, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a cite like that in a WT article, but I've seen it in letters. I'll have to go home and double check. Thanks!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

I think the Kingdom Ministry, actually, would be the best place to check. And since I'm at home, I just checked to see what their citations look like.

Ex: (be p. 44 *4-p.46 *2)

Star is where the paragraph symbol should be.

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001 ·
