I've never read them. I found them because I was also trying to figure out what Master and Commander was about. Judging from the comments made on Amazon, they look pretty good and I might pick th...

No. It's based on a series of books written by Patrick O'Brian. Here's a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/series/-/90/paperback/ref=pd_serl_books/102-2249203-5132131">link</a>...

Absolutely. Which is exactly what I said in my response to StarshipTrooper's post.

I'd try that, but I'm only one eighth Irish.

I'm not sure that you and thatdarngirl understand what the phrase "self-abuse" means. It's what the YPA book talks about in chapters 25 and 26. If you understand that and are still making these c...

I should also add "My lord, a suppliant at your feet I kneel" from Gilbert and Sullivan's "Iolanthe" to that list.

That's way too easy if you're allowed to use the internet. I found it on my second try.

So can I, but how do Bowling Surfers fit into the discussion at hand?

So, I did a few searches on Yahoo, and, near as I can tell, Tymon is one of several forms of the surname Timmons which itself is a diminutive form of Timothy. Timothy, as you might know, apparentl...

Whoops. Make that 450 years later.

My last name is Giaimo. The most likely theory as to the origin of the name is that it is a corruption of "di Giacomo" which means "(son) of Jacob". It's a fairly rare name from Sicily.

I loved the book and the movie, but I can't bear to read or watch them anymore. They're just far too emotionally draining.

I haven't seen any of the trailers yet. Do you know if they included the stuff about Saruman's destroying the Shire, and the hobbits return to clean it up? I thought that that part of Return of t...

I remember one brother bringing out in a talk once that when a shepherd "uses the rod" it is rarely to beat the animal, but rather to guide it in the correct direction, so that verse is really talk...

Yeah. It's like the French prenom/nom distinction. "Prenom" means given name and "nom" (almost always) means surname.

Possibly. I don't really pay much attention to new bands anymore, so I wouldn't know.

I really don't think there's any such thing as soulmates. I think the whole idea is just a reflection of this world's attitude that "you are who are and if people don't like that they can kiss you...
